    My backpack.......

I would suggest trying to use something on the hotbar that is in your backpack and see if it works and or magically reappears. Do you have anything in your backpack on hotbar, if so is the item whited out? Why are you keeping 30 round mags? If you have an ammo box, surely you have come across coupled mags or 40 round mags. They save space, plus you can use them to stack your ammo higher and store it in your ammo box. Edit: besides that I would get out and find a new backpack and start filling it up. Easy come, easy go and vice versa.

    Map Spawns

I find plenty of pieces, but I have never found the whole map. I know they can be combined, but I just never had the right pieces to have the whole of the map. I don't really feel like it is a worthwile endeavor to specifically search for the map. Sure check the cars if you see them, but run across the map to find the 4 car spawn you were told about? Not sure it is worth that kind of effort. Having said that: There are a few cars (3 iirc) by the warehouse and train station area (parking lot is behind the school) just NW of Lopatino. Also there are 4 vehicles parked at the train station outside Gvozdno. I do not think anything spawns in the brown van, never found anything myself. I find plenty of pieces in sheds. Specifically in NWAF if you move from the firehouse to the northern barracks, there is a shed that you can use to cut through the fence into the warehouse area and another one on the other end to let you back out. I seem to find pieces in the south shed almost everytime I go through it. There is a similar shed, by the 2 northern hangars and I have found a map piece in there too.
  4. If you cannot get any of the above solutions to work you might try these: If you can leave DayZ open, get the w key to stick down so you keep walking or sprinting. Being active will drain your energy faster, just don't eat or drink. I have heard, if you change your steam name, it might reset your character, but I have never done it and I have seen some say it did not work for them. Definately shut DayZ down, before you do this, if not uninstalling it completely. Good Luck.

Those look like rotten bananas to me. Not like you could not find that many fresh bananas if you spent days looking for them.

    A Few Noob Questions

    1. There is one map, but there are infinite map items, they must be found looted 2. 24 hour cycle, the server cycles constantly, servers are on varying times 3. I think it is a bug with punching...fireman axe is one hit kill on zombies 4. Painkillers for moaning, morphine or splint for broken leg, that is why you cant stand up. Try not to fall.
  7. For clarification, I never wanted to KoS, but it just happened; I just got blood on my fireaxe. I was running near cherno area and I came right up behind a guy that was prone. I looked at his pack and despite never seeing his gun, I decided he had one otherwise why was he sitting here prone (it did not make sense) I was right up on him before I had even seen him myself and I decided he was going to notice me before I got away. Quite honestly, I had gotten here on accident, only moments before I realized it was morning when for the last hour (rough estimate) I had thought it was afternoon. I had run from Gorka to Cherno, on accident! Now I was going to brave Balota, before heading the "true" north. After wasting that much time, I was sprinting because I just want to be north at this point. I have no back pack, but there is a point after looking, that you know it is just time to be heading north. It is amazing how fast the mind works. It took only a matter of seconds to equip my axe, after an internal discussion that involved assessing the threat followed by a decision of fight or flight. I was actually planning on just going down with a fight instead of getting shot in the back as I tried to retreat. My victim was more willing to help me out than I had expected. He had a magnum and seemed like he could not hit me as I circled around him swinging as fast as I could, then I think he was trying to pull out an M4 as the last blow landed sending him to the ground. Sorry bro, I really felt bad about it, and if I had come up on you from the other direction, you would have put me down way before I had the chance. Hopefully you will get me next time. All your stuff got ruined, but I am going to hold onto it until I get some upgrades.

You try to be good, but then this...

I stay in the North, I have seen maybe 8 survivors and three of those were this morning, I logged into a fresh spawn. Twice was me getting KoS, the other three were people I saw from a distance and just avoided. I have mentioned all three encounters from today in this thread. Today was a gift for understanding how I feel while under attack and attacking too. I might still shoot dirt if I get in an engagement tomorrow, but I guarantee I would have been yesterday. I have had moments with zombies were I just have to stop and ask wtf am I doing. Panicking is not good for my aim.

You try to be good, but then this...

Perhaps, but I never go prone unless I am crawling under something or hiding in an everygreen and looking at the map or something, but even in evergreens I prefer to kneel. As I ran up on him, my thought was he was either stalking prey waiting for his shot or camping a popular spot looking for players. I do not know the map that well. Maybe everyone else likes to go prone in a small grove of trees in the middle of the pvp capital. I stick with sprinting, might get me noticed, but at least I am getting out of there asap. I thought of calling out to him, but like it was said before if I let him know I am there, he has the upper hand with weapons that fire! I was not exactly a fresh spawn, I was expecting to die though. I could use someone to tell me if my mic even works. Never played with anyone before. I did try talking for the first time today, but after I saw one person I just said hey, didn't hear anything back went to loot a house and another dude came out with a bat, I just kept going in and he chased me back in, swinging the bat. I played him like a zombie and swam around him and ran back out the door and then he targeted the other guy as I ran off to find some loot.

    Best Character Contest.

I seriously considered picking up the yellow rain coat, despite wearing a green hoodie. Unfortunately, I had to pass it up.

What to do when geared on DayZ for fun?

I was more thinking of 1 bag inside my bag. That then has clothing items, food, and water inside of it. There would then only be one clothing item that was further stacked with another clothing item inside another clothing item and that item would have a pistol. Therefore, once it is all unpacked by the person I gave it to, they are pretty much geared up. Obviously, I only want to hand it over to people that I have forced into handcuffs, therefore they believe they are being robbed and killed. Me on the other hand would walk away with very little, except what I am wearing, after giving that away. No big deal, I will simply restock what I need.
  12. I don't know what is common knowledge and what has been reported. I have been "collecting" (amazing how much I find left in tents and hangars) 5.56 ammo the last few days and I am noticing these occurences: 1) emptying a mag on ground having a full pack, destroys the ammo (or possibly it does not show up immediately; I don't hang around) 2) empty a mag in inventory/pack has a chance of making the ammo disappear 2a) sometimes the ammo will reappear if you drop the empty mag 2b) it has a better chance to disappear if you have no inventory space to empty the rounds into although iirc it will still occasionally drop to the ground 3) if you empty a 40 round mag, the ammo will stack to 40. if you combine ammo it only stacks to 30. (I have more than 300 rounds in a 300 round box, because I have exploited this to have stacks of 40 in the box, I should try it with a coupled mag to see if it stacks to 60, but I have never thrown a coupled mag away which would have resulted in me "testing" it) 3a) exception to this is if you have a partial stack in your inventory it might break the stack of 40 up and therefore add to the partial stack to 30 and make a new partial stack with the remaining rounds

What to do when geared on DayZ for fun?

I have been thinking of testing the capabilities of stacking inventory items within other items. I know back when I was on the coast, I could have items inside a pair of pants that were inside of the pants I was wearing. At one point, I had the option of putting a pack inside another pack. I have had a full pack though for the past few weeks and have not had the opportunity to put anything like that in my inventory. I would like to see how much I can get stacked inside of a pack that I carry in my pack. Hopefully, I get enough to fully gear a new spawn and I can handcuff them and see if the game will let me put the pack on their back. I will then have plenty of time to run away before they ever find the loaded pistol at the very bottom of the stack.

    M4 Fire modes?

Never been in a fire fight, I do shoot zombies every chance I get though. I always use a quick "burst". Sometimes it is only one round, sometimes it is two; but I have never changed it intentionally. This thread just taught me how.

    I just spawn dead

I am only speculating, but I think you would have been dead anyway, whether or not you hit alt-f4 is a moot point. You probably died because of a bug, but I cannot confirm that. It seems from what I have noticed, when the server restarts there is actually a little bit of a roll-back. I have literally dropped something :30 secs before the red chain no message received count and log back in panicked to replace it with new loot only to find, it was still in my inventory. Literally happened yesterday, I set a 300 round ammo box down and started emptying magazines and putting the ammo in the box and disgarding empty mags, my pack space was completely full and the ammo box was not. I was carrying 4 fnx mags (+1 attached) and I had about 4 coupled stanag and 2 (1 attached) 40 round mags. I decided to drop the 40 round mags and lose a few fnx mags. I never use pistol anyway, except when I first found a mag for it. Anyway I managed to set the box down and empty a few mags and put the ammo in the box on the ground when the server restarted. I thought I lost about half my ammo, but all those mags were still on me. Only thing I "lost" was the 30 rounds in the stanag I was trying to pick up when this whole shuffling began. Also, I have been in the process of opening a gate when server restarts, only to log back in and find I have not even run to the gate yet. I don't know how a short roll-back could have killed you, but maybe you got teleported back to a glitchy spot that was a near miss while you were at the keys. I have also logged in to a fresh spawn. It can be a char wipe, occasionally. As suggested above, it might be a server that is not attached to the public hive either the new server or the one you have been playing on. As much gear as I have right now, it would be slightly relieving to lose it all and start again. Yes, I would still feel a little bummed, but the people on the coast are not going to give me any sympathy and I am kind of bored. Yesterday, I ran from NE airfield to NW airfield and found some upgrades that I did not even realize I needed. I hate collecting ammo, but I don't like destroying it either.

Am I naive in wanting to learn the map myself?

Standalone was my first time on the map. I have, however, been watching vids of the mod for the last year and a half (that gives me some knowledge of the map I would not otherwise have). I do also "cheat" if we are going to call it that. I downloaded an app on my tablet, but since I do not always have that right beside me I have the map pulled up on my PC 80% of the time and alt-tab. It's been a while since I last spawned, but I used to run North (or just inland if I couldn't find North) as soon as possible. I am always lost from this point. I have been some places and I still do not know where they are or how I got there. I have found myself on the edge of the map more than a few times. I feel like I run across certain places a lot, even if by chance. The first time I ran across the train station to the north, I thought the tracks were running north to south and I thought I was more centrally located on the map. When I look at the map, it is more out of curiousity: "I have been running for so long, I must have made it somewhere"; however, I never really know where I started to know where I ran from. At this point though, if I were to randomly run, I would come across a place and most likely recognize the name as it appears on the sign, I might not know where exactly it is on the map, but it does ring a bell. Like, "I think I have been here before" or "I always seem to stumble across this place." Also, you can look up the translation for the city names on the wiki, just search for chernaraus cities and towns from google. I have looked at that too and if you just look at the page with the names and translations, it will not tell you where the city is at on the map. I would say, I do not use the map efficiently. However, I am like you in that I would like to learn the map well enough to at the very least read a street sign and know where I am at, eventually. I will need to read more street signs, and know where I am at more often to make it a reality. Edit: I also had most of the ingame map, except the NE corner. I was holding 4 pieces of map up until yesterday (I was having some lag issue after restart and could not interact with inventory properly, but changed my tactical shirt for a camo jacket that did not appear until I finally gave up trying and changed servers, map pieces and compass were in the shirt) and I only ever looked at the IG map once.

    Signed off after restart

A little bit of a (lite), I cannot believe it rant coming. I was grabbing a few hours of playing time yesterday, before all the kids came home. Unfortunately in my last 30 minutes of time, the server I was on restarted. Since, I am not familiar with how long you have to wait to get back on the server after restart, I do not have the patience to figure it out; I may have waited 2 minutes (definitely 1 minute), before trying to get back in and then just logging onto another server. I decided to make the most of my little play time left and keep running to my original destination, the NE airfield. I make it there and loot everything (it had been hit before, but no one can clean out a place quite like me). Just as I am leaving the airfield to find a spot to log at, this new server also begins restarting! Well, today I am none to thrilled about having to log back in at what I believe was a fairly open area at the NE airfield. Hopefully, no one shoots.

    Signed off after restart

I seem to have a problem with restarts. I just had the server I was on today restart. I ran from NE to NW airfield. Cleaned the tents and headed to the Northern hangars and admin building I was in the admin building when it restarted, then I couldn't seem to interact with anything (including my inventory) when I logged back in. After trying to loot for a while and not feeling safe without a weapon, I eventually changed servers and realized I had managed to switch my tactical shirt for a camo jacket and lost the items in the shirt, map pieces and compass. Well, I logged back into the server just to get those pieces and I was staring at some guy. I figured it would be pretty cheap to KoS since I basically (accidently) server hopped. So I just logged before he saw me. Guess my compass and map pieces are gone now. Almost had the whole map, just needed 1 piece, either N, S, E or NE. Edit: I am also aware of why restarts occur. I am not complaining that they happen, just wish they were less of an inconvenience. As easy as you suggest it is, I usually cannot continue playing on the same server after restart; when I try to reconnect I get the "restart" error. Today was the closest I have been to continue playing on the same server and it took a good 10 mins before I gave up and realized I had dropped my Nav. items. PSS: Today, I was in the middle of clearing up space to loot a stanag when it restarted, and there was other loot in the same building. It is arguable whether the server needed to be restarted.

    Where is this?

Train station with an elevated parking lot, raised about 13-15 feet above the road (highway 20 as marked). There is also a dry creek bed with several bridges across it <1km away. I have been here twice, but I was randomly running through the woods both times and was basically lost trying to head in a cardinal direction. I was heading East when I found it this time. I think it is North East from the center of the map, but I am not sure how far, I cannot find it looking at an external map. Very frustrating trying to look at the external map and not being able to find this, it seems like it should be easy to spot on the map.
  20. InflatedLyric

    Where is this?

It was empty when I got there. Found a piece of a map in one of the cars in the parking lot, I now have 4 map pieces and I cannot make a full map yet... I have West, NW,, SW, and SE. So basically I have two W maps and one SE.

    No health status messages?

Eat rotten fruit and see if it says your mouth tastes funny. If there is nothing wrong, yet then you should not be getting status messages. If you press tab and it says hungry, thirsty, or sick to the left of your character in the top left corner of the char box, you should see status messages. If you are not hungry, thirsty or sick; it will say nothing. I have never filled myself up to completely "healthy" but I stay in a region where I am not getting status messages...they make me crazy.
  22. InflatedLyric

    Where is this?

Thanks. I see it on the map now too. I didn't think it was that close to any city. I have been wandering for several days (only about an hour at a time).

    Best place for FNX mags

I found 3 at the NWAF. It seemed like the ATC, Firestation, and all Barracks were all hit before I got there too. I found one in the Firestation, front right corner in those bins, I guess no one looked there. Found a second in a police station the bottom floor room with two computers, iirc. The final one I found in the tents (again that is if memory serves me correctly). This was all on the same server, but I believe I looted the tents twice, before and after a server restart.
  24. InflatedLyric

    Related? Yes... no maybe so?

I would assume something is operational to keep the ocassional street lamp lit. Maybe we could salvage what there is or rebuild it.

    Suggestion: A location

We are definitely going to need to manage upkeep on underground pipes and sewers and water treatment facilities in order to keep the water pumps pumping out clean water.
