Since the first post didn't answer your first question, I will. It really depends on what your looking for in the game really. Now that the Dayz Mod is a primarily community run project, it has some benefits of its own, and its also the here and now. ;) Were all hoping for the standalone alpha to be released this year, but Rocket has stated that he will not sacrifice the quality of the first alpha build just to have an early release. So it may be next year that we get it. The standalone is supposed to have lots of new features, but I don't see it being any reason to not get the mod, which is also excellent. Not sure if that helps, but it will give you some insight on both projects anyway.

Because its one thing looting a camp, its another to post it on the forums so they have to relocate. Your not doing anyone a favor.

Honor system mostly. I'm one of the over watch snipers. I wouldn't shoot a trade partner for his gear, and lose trading credibility on the forums.

Arma 2 seems to be pretty poorly optimized. The Arma 3 engine is next gen, but chances are the devs have learned from the past, and will optimize their assets more efficiently.
