  1. Not necessarily, but generally speaking when you're talking about a more "authentic" and/or "realistic" game, it usually (but not always) means that it is much less forgiving as a result. In the case of DayZ, further immersion is generally going to mean increased difficulty. I'm all for it. Even if you want to say they are always independent of each other, bring on more immersion and more difficulty. RAMP IT UP, ROCKET! :D
  2. The "just have it toggle" idea doesn't make a lot of sense to me in the context of what DayZ is. The game is all about even footing. No one is inherently advantaged/disadvantaged from any other player as a result of game mechanics. By doing this, you would be saying "If you want, you can make the game harder for yourself and toggle off the UI. But others can just keep it". In the interest of survival, you'd never turn off the UI because you'd be at a disadvantage to those who don't turn it off. Whatever solution occurs, it must be enforced across the board. Starting these toggle situations is just a slippery slope of bending to peoples' desires vs. letting Rocket exercise his vision, which would really destroy the charm of the game and turn it into FischerPriceZ.
  3. It takes you 30 seconds to see a big spraying red fountain of pixels spewing from your character? Wow dude, yeah you're at a disadvantage. But Rocket agrees with you about the audible/visible meters still being there being immersion breaking. He WANTS to remove them and indicate them in-game without a UI. He just hasn't come up with a solution YET. But, it's his goal as well.
  4. The missed point in all of this is that Rocket has basically already explained in the video the OP is talking about that he aims to remove every UI element possible. It's nearly a sure fire guarantee that this is happening. The only UI elements he's not sure if they can do with removing are the indicators of how visible/audible you are. So, this thread is pretty moot anyway. Did you know he stated in another video he is removing the ammo counter for your gun? He wants it to be authentic in that you must count/remember as you fire in regards to how many rounds are left in the mag. Going to cry about that too? I also agree with the ammo change. I completely agree with everything Rocket has stated thus far in his videos in terms of the design direction of the game. I <3 it so hard.
  5. So I've been reading this http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/84713-why-does-rocket-want-us-to-have-congenital-insenssitivity/ and there was a place where he said that he wants to get keep a UI with food/temperature indicators. Instead you will be able to tell that you're hungry because a bright fork and knife icon embedded in your eye will flash red, or that you're cold because you will see a bright thermometer icon embedded in your eye flash. What is this? Am I unable to exhibit a more natural sense of temperature, hunger or thirst? I don't need a bright flashing icon to know it's cold, I can sense it through body language and sounds. I don't need a fork and knife icon flashing red like a stop light to know that I'm hungry, I can constantly sense how full/hungry I am through body language and sounds. I don't need these flashing icons to give me visible signs, I can always tell those things. Only people with some kind of genetic diseases can't tell when they are hungry or cold. I know that SillySil is trying to maintain more immersion to DayZ by not adding overtly choreographed body movements and sounds. But giving me all of these bright flashing icons and text like I'm wearing a Project Glass headset from Google is not going to make me feel more immersed. More like controlling some kind of a lifeless star bucks patron with a headset or something. Does anyone else think this is a bad idea? ---- See how your argument is flawed and how I could spin that around and make the SAME argument you did? The UI isn't authentic either. Neither solution is "authentic". As you said, we can't feel what the character is feeling. However, I think removing all UI elements presents you with more immersion by taking cues from your character versus cues from a UI overlay. Yes you yourself would be aware of hunger/thirst/temperate before exhibiting shakes/stomach rumbles/etc. But, there's no way for a computer to convey feeling to your body (yet?). I'm in the camp of removal of as much of the UI as possible and making all cues about the character be FROM the character.

    What's the point of helicopters?

What about it? What did I post that was inaccurate? If you think I misunderstood the OP, you need to realizes it comes off like you think it's by design that helicopters don't save right now. Further, your post implies that you think ONLY helicopters have this problem and that it doesn't affect ALL vehicles. Right now, NO vehicles save on reset. So your post might as well be "Why repair any vehicle?". It makes no sense why you are isolating helicopters in your rant. It's clear you don't understand that vehicle saving not working is a bug, because you go on to say "helicopters last years and years in real life", which you wouldn't state if you knew it wasn't a design decision and in fact a bug. Therefore, *because* I read your OP thoroughly, I responded to your post in the context of you claiming it's a design decision and not realizing it's a bug.

Empty World - Please help me! :(

You spent 3 months running in the direction the troubleshooting guide tells you to? That's commitment. But, I must say that you are likely running in circles. It shouldn't take 3 months to run the proper direction out of the debug hill area.
  8. In 1.7.2.5 any deployed objects are actually permanent in game and literally can never be removed other than temporarily between server restarts. Each time you place a tent, it will be there on server restart no matter what happens to it after placement. You could effectively take 1 tent and place/pickup/replace it 10 times and there would be 10 tents there next server restart. But, also due to 1.7.2.5 bugs, none of the tents will save gear. Well, the one you "really" setup has a chance to one-off save the gear it had (which looks like worked for you). But none of the tents can have their state modified now. Each server restart that tent will be full of the gear you initially saved it with.
  9. You did accept a user agreement when launching/installing ARMA2, which DayZ is based upon. That agreement contains verbiage about not hacking/etc. This extends to everything ARMA2 including its mods. So, you can remove DayZ entirely from the context of your question and simply focus on ARMA2/Bohemia Interactive when it comes to Global Bans. If you're talking about admin level/community bans, it's just like you said -- there's no agreement. Therefore, you have no "rights" to do anything. I know you're just trying to troll, but there's an answer for you.

    What's the point of helicopters?

This would be valid if helicopters were one time use vehicles. Once you get a chopper going you can ferry yourself and friends all over the map forever (once the vehicle save problem is fixed) until you're careless enough and get shot down or someone steals it. Just because you want instant gratification doesn't mean helicopters are useless. They're amazing for transportation.

    What's the point of helicopters?

Helicopters are primarily for transportation. You can go end-to-end on the map within a minute or two because of speed and the fact that you can take a direct route vs. up and over hills, around trees/obstructions, etc. The M240s mounted on the doors are of extremely limited use and really only best as suppressive fire. The desync issues in vehicles make the guns only able to be used about 75% of the time (the other 25% it looks like you're flying into the ground to the gunners). At reasonable speed to avoid the average sniper's fire, the M240s are incredibly difficult to hone in on a target. To get a good shot at a target with them you have to slow to speeds and keep a steady heading that make it fairly trivial for someone to snipe door gunners. If someone in the trees has an AS50 or M107, it doesn't take much at all to drop a chopper. THe other day a choper flew around in Cherno. They were over 1km out from my position and I couldn't see them due to whether (but could hear them). They coincidentally ended up trying to egress the city almost directly over me. I fired a few rounds of my AS50 into the chopper (aiming for the main rotor area) and dropped that thing like a rock even though they were going about 200km/h by then. Helicopters are a lot of fun to play with, but it also adds a layer of responsibility. They are much more difficult to hide given you need a reasonably sized FLAT clearing to land them. This makes them easer to spot by far as compared to ground vehicles/tents. The places you hide them generally mean if you lose it to someone you're in for a LONG hike back. I would love to see the addition of a very small capacity transport only (no mounted guns) helicopter that is more plentiful (2-3 per server) for the standalone.
  12. Fair enough. I read the option as "Only $15, because the only reason I would pay more than $15 would be if it helped fight cheating." I'm under the camp of "I don't think a high monetary cost will help fight cheating, but I would be willing to pay in upwards of $60 for the game just based on the merits of the game and how awesome it is".

    Blowing up a chopper

Here is my favorite solution (shameless plug of a video of mine): Just auto-hover it halfway on/off the edge of a dock, and get out (make sure it says "Get Out" not eject). The chopper will land awkwardly, tilt slowly, and eventually slip into the ocean before it spontaneously combusts.
  14. That's exactly what is happening. They're removing the trusting nature of the ARMA 2 Engine, as has been explained to the community by Rocket et all for months now as the solution which required engine changes. This entire thread is moot.
  15. You really should've just had an option by itself of "Pricing is not the solution to this problem", as I would pay up to $60 for DayZ yet I don't feel pricing will have any effect on hacking. The solution to hacking has already been known since the inception of DayZ mod -- control of the game engine. With standalone, they'll have that. This thread is moot. Sure hacking won't be 100% preventable, but it will be no more hackable than any of your other favorite online games. There's only so much you can do, and right now most of those security actions can NOT be performed given its a mod and not a full game where Rocket can modify the engine.

Server update what happens to tents/vehicles?

I came late to the party, so my server was started on 1.7.2.5 and has never run a different version. I am against downgrading servers myself, so I chose not to downgrade my own server. I will only run the latest'n'greatest in spite of any bugs. I wouldn't be of any help in providing any advice/information on 1.7.2.4 and downgrade/upgrades as a result. Sorry :\

    Rocket, Review your own game.

What the hell? Nice thread necromancy. Did you notice the post you replied to (and the thread in its entirety) was posted about 2 1/2 months ago? You'd be better off starting a brand new thread on this topic versus replying to a 2.5 month old thread that confuses everyone because they're talking about old stuff that may no longer be relevant due to patches released since then.

Server update what happens to tents/vehicles?

Unsurprisingly, the DayZ community has no knowledge about a patch that has not yet released. :P I imagine that you would be fine since the problem is with the server's method of saving TO the hive (but once saved on the hive, it's all good). In theory, you could upgrade to 1.7.2.5 and have your camps/cars still be fine but permanently stuck at their last "save" and no longer able to be saved at a new state/location. But, this is all wild assumption based on theory and not fact. The only person capable of answering this question is Rocket. I'm not sure who you expect would have proper information on this otherwise.

    Really Part 2

If only there were some rare and unique event that occurred which caused the only developer for the mod to suddenly have almost no time for development. Oh! Standalone announcement, subsequent meetings/plannings with Bohemia Interactive about it, and subsequent mass PR campaigns regarding such. Before you complain that Rocket should've not done all that PR work in lieu of barreling in on the mod's patch, somehow I think the Bohemia Interactive (who is now financially vested in the project) had some slight request that Rocket promote a game they will be selling and footing the bill for. You guys kill me with your self-entitlement.

    Hiding player bodies..

I will hide a body when... -They tried to ALT-F4 unsuccessfully or otherwise tried to glitch something -They were witnessed putting down sandbags/hedgehogs/catwire in a building (screw those people) -They have any sort of illegitimate weapon (This includes the AS50 TWS, you cry babies) -They have a high powered rifle that I don't want being pointed in my direction or NVGs (and have no room to pick it up myself)
  21. venthos

    Really Part 2

Wow, yeah. Not only are you as self-entitled as you made yourself out to be in your original thread, you're incredibly arrogant and smug. You're responding like you finally got what you were "owed". No one owed you anything. You forced an ETA where no ETA could realistically be given. That's why companies (like Blizzard) have wizened up to impatient rage queens like you and say "when it's done" for an ETA. Having an arbitrary date for when it might be done does nothing for anyone other than temporarily silence the rage queens like yourself until that date arrives. Then the date arrives and all you rage queens will be spamming "how about now? what about now? are we there yet?" Then, since this is an ALPHA MOD, undoubtedly there will still be bugs that weren't fixed or NEW bugs that were caused. You will then rage queen it out all over again and act all self-entitled again. Please understand that there are people in the DayZ community who feel you are solely contributing a DETRIMENTAL effect to the DayZ community, and are doing absolutely nothing constructive or helpful to DayZ. You are not some white knight of the community. You are an idiot. Stop posting these threads like you're acting on the behalf of the community. You are an embarrassment to those of us who understand what this mod is, where it is in its development cycle, and are just having a shit load of fun with it.

    Can't find US 362 & 935?

Are you sure about the version? Remember, it's not just DayZ 1.7.2.5 that you need. Server admins can (and should) keep up-to-date with the latest ARMA2:OA beta and then set the server config option to enforce that all players use that latest version. For over a week, the latest has been Beta client 96061. Just an hour or two ago they released a new client, version 96465. Perhaps they updated immediately to that new beta. Are you on 96061? Even if so, try 96465. ARMA2:OA Beta: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php (or just use DayZ Commander to update for you. Six Launcher is often way behind on Beta versions)

    Random global ban?

Global bans are almost never "instantaneous". What you were doing during the time of the ban almost never relates to what you were banned for. BattlEye usually employs the "Honey Pot" approach to bans. Once a hack is found out by BattlEye's developers, they don't instantly ban the 4-5 people running it. They sit in wait and let 10, 20, 50, or 100+ people dog pile in on the hack and let it become popular. Once everyone has the false sense of security, they slam the door and do a mass ban wave. It's certainly more effective. I'm not saying you hacked (we've seen the one "Whoops, sorry" ban wave from BattlEye and then the last BattlEye update causing an erroneous global ban/kick message to occur.) My point is simply that what you were doing when you experienced the global ban almost guaranteed has nothing to do with what caused the ban. Your only avenue for finding anything out would be talking to BattlEye directly.
  24. The filters from the community ban list have no effect on natural loot spawns. Whether your createvehicle.txt, remoteexec.txt, or scripts.txt were wrong/inaccurate/missing anything would not affect your loot. pipebombs are "Satchel Charges" in game. They are VERY rare, but legitimate. So rare that it's more likely the satchel charge was obtained through illegitimate means. BUT... you have no way of knowing if it was found legitimately on your server, spawned in, brought in from another server, or found in a hacker's tent/crate/etc. When it shows up in the create log it means it was detonated (NOT that the satchel charge was spawned in). Parachutes are legitimate and 'create' in the logs when someone ejects from a helicopter. Even if you were hacked, no one can "break" your server from spawning certain loot. Perhaps they could affect the current loot piles in the world, but not "break" the server to make it never spawn rare loot. DART uses rcon, meaning it only has access to what it sees live on the server or what it's seen since you last started DART. Not seeing a player in DART just means it wasn't running when that player was logged in. You should probably unban those two people. But, like I said, everything in relation to the community ban list/community filters and the two people you've mentioned would be incapable of affecting loot spawn/rarity on your server. Those are unrelated issues.
  25. You are just unlucky. Your server actually has nothing to do with what loot spawns and when. The Hive controls all of that for your server. There is literally nothing you can do to affect loot spawns at the server level (other than restarting the server to 'clear' loot and get all new loot piles). If such a problem existed, it would be exhibited on many servers (such as when a hive issue existed that prevented servers with instance IDs over 8000 from spawning any vehicles at all). However having 'nothing' spawn at a location is different than having stuff spawn at appropriate spots (just not the loot you want). It is extremely unlikely to the point I'd say implausible that your server is able to spawn loot properly, but not spawn "good loot". The Hive makes no distinction between "bad loot" and "good loot". It's just a matter of configured percentage chance to spawn for a given piece of loot. With that said, "good loot" does have a very low percentage chance to spawn in comparison with regular/garbage loot. I've been playing for weeks and I've yet to see a natural spawn of GPS, NVG, Rangefinder, and many other items. I've only ever obtained them from other players. Stuff is rare, intentionally. It just seems way more common because of all the tent duping/etc. going on. If I had to wager, I'd say absolutely nothing is wrong with your server. Good loot is intentionally uncommon/rare. Bizons are the 'garbage' loot of helicopter crashes, it makes sense you've seen lots of them. Tents are exceptionally rare compared to the other stuff that spawns in grocery stores. The random number generator is a cruel mistress, and is not often in a giving mood. In short, I highly doubt anything is wrong at all. Your server is probably working flawlessly. If there is some weird problem (which I can't fathom how), it would only ever be an issue with The Hive itself and only DayZ devs could fix it. Such a problem SHOULD affect other servers too (potentially all). Since no one else seems to be reporting issues, it's even more unlikely that such a problem exists. If you truly still believe your server is having a problem, your only option is to contact DayZ support and have them investigate. Nobody else can help or investigate.
