Why would you feel dumb, good sir? :P
-
Lots of bad information there. If you read the original post, you would see he's explicitly asking about how to: "reset the vehicles and even wipe all the tents etc at the same time on the server" He's asking this because he noticed the chopper gone and a hacker had spawned a gearbox in its place. He's now afraid he's been screwed out of vehicles/has spawned gearboxes all over and wants to "reset" his instance ID to a brand new one. He is not asking how to just simply restart the server. You just read the word "restart" and made wild assumptions. Of course restarting the server isn't admin abuse. You really thought that was the train of thought here? I hope you feel dumb here, because you are. You'd have to be to think that 3 different people in the thread are all claiming it's admin abuse to issue a server restart.

Vehicle spawns resetting every server restart
venthos replied to Netro's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Your original post made no mention of server versions. You edited them in later. "Edited by Netro, Today, 10:42 AM." My post: "Posted Today, 10:44 AM" I was already typing away and never saw your 10:42am update. My apologies for not constantly refreshing the thread under the wild assumption that you might have updated your thread with more details in between when I started writing my reply. Despite this, my answer is still 100% valid and provides the solution to your problem. You better bet I'm not going to further clarify from here though or help you at all any further. Good luck, asshole. -
All Our Vehicals have been taken while we were on or in them
venthos replied to ubikPainKiller's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I tried to warn you guys :) http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/87808-you-may-want-to-hold-off-on-1726-until-this-new-hack-is-detected/ -
Yep. That was a bug. Things are back to normal now where you are punished for getting into helicopters without first learning to fly them first via ARMA2's training missions/armory. You should learn to effectively drive vehicles/fly helicopters before spending the time to repair/use one in DayZ, as skipping the few minutes of training (and crashing) means you wait 7 days for that vehicle to come back.

Vehicle spawns resetting every server restart
venthos replied to Netro's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is a bug in DayZ 1.7.2.5 that has existed for many weeks and is talked about ad nauseum in this forums. A simple search would've turned up many many multi-page threads about it. Please search next time. A fix was released just yesterday via DayZ 1.7.2.6 for tents/vehicles not saving. Simply update to DayZ 1.7.2.6 *AND* Hive 0.7.4 and you'll be golden. If you *are* on 1.7.2.6, you've either failed to update your Hive to 0.7.4 or have otherwise installed some portion of your update incorrectly. -
Why is everybody so satisfied with ARMA2 Engine?
venthos replied to EndEffeKt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I for one really enjoy the feel of the ARMA2 engine. I'm sure the ARMA3 engine will be neat, but I was pleased to hear that DayZ Standalone will use the ARMA2 engine as its core and pull in ARMA3 engine code as they desire. The look and feel of DayZ is really quite enjoyable. Any such engine bugs will be resolved during standalone's alpha/beta cycle as Rocket will have the ability to modify the engine. -
I would consider it abuse because you would be forcing a reset of tents/vehicles upon your player base. They would lose their work. You'd also be resetting things on your request/ability, guaranteeing first shot at vehicles and the like. The ONLY way to reset a server's tents/vehicles/etc. is to open a support ticket with DayZ staff and request a brand new instance ID. I'm not sure what the prerequisite is for a new instance ID and if it's even something they'll do. But, that would be the only way.

Once a vehicle is destroyed, it takes 7 days to respawn. This is intentional. It is not a bug. http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Vehicles#Vehicle_FAQ That's just how the game works, by design.

Vehicle destroyed in the morning
venthos replied to BR4INZ Chopper Bob's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's difficult to say. A week or two ago I logged on to my server to find every vehicle on the map blown up, most of which were still at their spawn location since the server was just restarted hours before (and vehicle saving was pooched). I'm not talking "the ones at my camp", I'm talking top to bottom, left to right. Every vehicle spawn I encountered was exploded. Either a hacker used some "kill all vehicles" hack or teleported around and knocked them out. This isn't to say it would be impossible for a player to do this, but the window of time available and how long it would take to run all over the entire map doing this don't match up. So, I'd say it's a possibility a hacker is doing this. But, there's no way to know for sure. Hacker or not, I think I'd switch servers at this point if I were you. -
Alas, you could've had the answer had you read the patch notes for 1.7.2.6, Forgewolf.

Kamenka, along with literally every town, have "residential" class spawns that can spawn food and drink. You don't need a supermarket. You don't need Cherno/Electro/Berezino. Stop crying and play the game. I imagine the suicide-to-a-different-town will be blocked in standalone by some mechanic introduced by Rocket, so I wouldn't count that as an excuse either.
-
As mentioned, Rocket plans on removing the UI elements entirely according to his interviews over the past week or two. They'll be replaced with indicators direct from your character. He hasn't said what yet, but perhaps something like being sluggish/stomach grumbling if hungry -- things like that I imagine. I fully concur with Rocket's desire to remove the UI elements entirely. It goes along with how he wants to remove the ammo count as well so you have to remember how many rounds are in your mag. This game should be more immersive, not like you have a Google Glass headset bolted on your your head flashing icons in your eyes.
-
I agree, gathering things is just tedious and 100% of players should spawn inside a supermarket with an attached fire station. Actually, forget that. Running is hard. All players should start with AS50s and Ghillie suits. No, check that. Dual-wielding fully automatic AS50s and infinite food/drink. It's such a waste of time having to stock up on items. Translation: Randomness and sparsity in spawns is a good thing. Some people PREFER to spawn in the outlying cities to grab a few goodies before heading north *away* from the well traveled coastal cities. This game is supposed to eat up time and take a while to run around and gear up. I'm surprised you're not demanding every city be a copy/paste of Cherno because the other inland cities are "useless" otherwise.

Viylair... Worst server provider ever!
venthos replied to Derpy_Hooves (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You mean a shared hosting style game server provider isn't offering the same quality of service you could get by leasing an unmanaged machine and doing it all yourself? Shock Factor: 0 I know I'll get flak about "well I don't know how to admin a server" or "it's too much money". That's fine, but you shouldn't expect the same quality of service. When you opt to be a "wallet admin" (someone who only knows how to punch in their CC# to lease a server, and not much else) your expectations should drop accordingly. Oddly, it seems peoples' expectations go UP in such a situation. I take these "angry pants" threads with a grain of salt, because I view all such shared hosting game server plans/companies alike. I'd never use one. Unmanaged box all the way. -
I will save you a lot of heart ache later on. This game is not meant to be easy. The removal of the debug elements is the tip of the iceberg for what Rocket has planned. Rocket has stated ideally he wants to remove all of the UI indicators, the only ones he's not sure of how he would replace (yet!) with alternate indicators are the visible/audible indicators. Your character himself/herself would essentially exhibit signs that were indicative of whatever the blinking green/red icons used to. Again, tip of the iceberg. Things are only getting more hardcore from here on out towards standalone. Most of us really like this and are thrilled a game designer is getting to make their game the way they want vs. cowtowing to what would sell the most copies. If this frightens you or you feel it is not what you want, then WarZ is shaping up to be a great alternative. WarZ seems to be catering towards a more softcore/casual experience. This is not a dig on WarZ, simply a statement that DayZ and WarZ are being developed for different target audiences. You seem more apt to like WarZ.

You may want to hold off on 1.7.2.6 until this new hack is detected
venthos replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
DayZ anti-hax does very little since it's simply a log parser. Not to say it's useless, but it's one thing that I have no plans to implement on my server ;P It wouldn't catch this particular hack, for instance. -

venthos replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yep I mentioned that fact it in the 3rd and 4th sentences of my original post :) As I stated in the original post, currently the filter is purely logging and has no rules in place of category "5" (prevent/kick). So at best you'd log what happened or have no log at all about it if they used one of the vars exempt from the initial category "1" log rule. This is brand new (like you say) so I'm sure the ruleset will mature over time. It's just doing nothing right now but logging. -

venthos replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Absolutely agreed. The only reason I felt the need to mention this particular hack is BattlEye's amazing turnaround time last time (just under 24 hours). If delaying the update to 1.7.2.6 by 24 hours for my server saves out on losing vehicles for 7 days, it's worth it. But yeah, for sure, I'll be updating tomorrow regardless for the weekend. I'm just in no rush right now given the new release of the hack today. Not every server admin is in my position though, and it doesn't make sense for everyone to hold back to 1.7.2.5 Some people are really confused about the fact that there are two software packages related to DayZ. Hive 0.7.4 DayZ 1.7.2.6 The confusion has lead to people calling it all sorts of version numbers. They are unique software packages and their versions should be mentioned independently (as above). However, Hive 0.7.4 only works with DayZ 1.7.2.6 and Hive 0.7.3 is required for DayZ 1.7.2.5. -
Reading on the community script site, I found someone with your problem: http://code.google.com/p/dayz-community-banlist/issues/detail?id=818&start=200 Are you running a private hive/server or otherwise anything other than 100% official unmodified DayZ Hive server? If so, that explains it. You'll have to customize the rules to tolerate the changes private hive/servers are apparently making to the codebase. As Jens says on that issue, the community filters aren't going to try and accommodate each forked private hive/codebase, but are willing to setup forks for it on the site if someone else wants to maintain them. TLDR: The scripts on the site are only intended for official 100% unmodified DayZ servers.

It's important to realize that the Script restriction # is *not* a line number. If you delete that line number, you're going to have a bad time. It's a "rule" number. This means you must count all RULES defined, skipping any commented lines (lines that start with //) Basing it off of the CURRENT scripts.txt right now, script restriction 41 would seem to be: For multiple users to be tripping a "setFuel" rule would be frightening to me, and I'd be careful that they aren't actually indeed trying to abuse the system. I've run the community scripts rules for weeks now without a single false positive. Note that if you're not entirely sure on the line number, you can always look at scripts.log and it will show you what actual scripts text it "tripped" on, allowing you to compare against the rules.

Congratulations on being one of the many people today who will not actually read Rocket's changelog. Please read through the changelog again, feel aptly embarrassed, and have your answer thusly.

My helicopter stopped working after i landed it.

You asked a question and provided its answer immediately after. I'm not sure what you want us to say here. Your assessment of the problem is dead on. -
UK207 is no longer available, replaced with standard Arma 2 server
venthos replied to The_Weasel's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I really wish attention whore threads were against the rules. The "I am announcing that I am going to stop playing DayZ. Here ye here ye!" threads in general are just annoying. The same thing with server admins who announce on their pedestal that they are shutting down their server. Absolutely nothing productive comes out of these threads and it serves only to have the original poster have the biggest smug look ever as they type away about how them being unable to tolerate DayZ Mod's misgivings is a "blow" to the mod. Most MMO forums have such a rule against pointless "goodbye" threads and lock those threads immediately. I wish DayZ would adopt a similar forum policy. Pretty please, forum crew? Please? -
This just further cements how haphazardly RhinoCrunch acts/reacts. His videos are all over the place. I watched a few of his videos about WarZ back when he stepped on a lot of toes with calling WarZ a scam, and regardless of the content of his videos his presentation is just tedious and annoying. Makes them very hard to watch.
