bye bye hackers ... you will not be missed
venthos replied to trashcanman67's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your claims require evidence. You've effectively stated "this pig can fly". With such a bold claim, you bet I'm going to jump on you for it. You must now provide evidence to back up this claim if you want to use it as any sort of ammunition against BattlEye or otherwise. The "my friend said" doesn't cut it. Proof is needed. I apologize that I don't relish in fuzzy claim of "Well I heard that..." with no proof and jump on the bandwagon with you. Despite that I was being a bit tongue in cheek about saying "read a book", the intent behind it was genuine. Your questions about "why can they just bypass it again a few days later?" *is* answered in material available either for free online or in many white hat hacker publications like the one I mentioned. You asked a question, I gave you the answer. Despite that you may not like how I gave the answer. I request evidence/answers from you, you ignore me and say I'm an asshole. Just understand that if you are going to make bold claims and use it as ammunition against someone, people like me are going to spring out and demand proof. If you don't have proof, be prepared to be treated accordingly. I still am very anxiously awaiting details on your claims. I would guarantee you that you are misunderstanding what is actually going on and that it is not what you think it is. I say this because if what you say is true, the entire world is basically oblivious to an inherent root kit that's baked into the windows operating system that no one is aware of other than your friend. You would have quite the 15 minutes of fame with many security companies and experts should this be true, as they would want to close that hole immediately. I say it like that simply to demonstrate the extraordinary nature of your claims. It literally would be that serious. Despite the "angries" back and forth, I still genuinely would like you to answer so that we can understand what's going on instead of just firing off hearsay left and right as a means of badmouthing BattlEye or BiS. -
That's what happens when you pick a server that has a server admin who still lives with his parents. Find a server with a good admin. I've been killed, my camp raided, my vehicle stolen, etc. and the most I'll "abuse" my powers is using global chat to say "Touché, good sir" if it was a particularly crafty/well aimed shot. I'd rather people play on my server than act like a child and kick everyone off. What good is amassing weapons/gear if you have no one to shoot in the face or run around with as a squad? In either case, this is the wrong forum section for this. Please go here and submit your thread to the Server Reporting area. It's a shame the vast majority of players and server admins alike are self-entitled smug bastards. That's also why I don't spam my server details all over the forums. I don't want the random riffraff. I'd rather get people joining my server consistently because they enjoy it. I've already met folks on the forums or just organically met them and helped them in game that has resulted in them bringing more people over to my server to play regularly. Not sure how you can find good admins reliably. Because getting a very crappy rent-a-server DayZ box only costs $25/mo, every child runs one and runs it poorly. If you can manage it, try an steer clear of anyone running a shared game server and stick to people running full on VPS or Dedicated Servers. It may be flawed logic, but as the cost of maintaining the server goes up, the kiddies tend to be unable to afford to run it. I frequently run up and down the coast with a vehicle (if I have one) passing out gear and weapons. It's fun. Sometimes I just murder everyone. That's fun too. But you bet that you'll be on a level playing field as me and I won't retaliate in any way that you couldn't legitimately retaliate against me as well. We're out there, find the good servers.

Using Hacked Weapons May Give You Global Ban

Nice to know that 2,000 bans do nothing
venthos replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh man. Can we please sticky this topic for a week or two? The delicious irony that is brewing here is just fantastic. Currently: "BattlEye does NOTHING! It's useless! Blargh!" Inevitable conclusion: "So I tried hacking and now I got banned. This is bullshit!" You have to promise to let us know when you get banned, electrobean. Please? Pretty please? -

Calm down there hoss. You may want to actually read the book's synopsis. In case you missed it. Feel dumb? You should. Also... space is amazing, but learning what makes computers work how they do is also very intriguing. Why not learn about both? :D -

venthos replied to trashcanman67's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I welcome it, good sir! Go ahead and provide your proof for me to read. You will have simultaneously found a new anti-hack method and a catastrophic security hole that will have everyone scrambling to patch the world's computers if what you say is true and these server owners are able to remotely inspect the kernel/processes/memory of a client machine remotely without the aide of an anti-cheat engine being willingly run on the client. -
@Rocket; Does it really have to be zombies?
venthos replied to daedrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good point. I like it. Make it no more visually distinctive from other zombies. That way you have to decide whether you're going to risk whether or not a "leader" zombie is in the area or take the safe route and quietly dispatch/avoid zombies in your way. I'm only talking like 3-4 of these leader zombies at max in a town as big as cherno (potentially able to run into NONE spawned at all). Such that you very well COULD run in balls out and never run into one. Then again, there could be one! I love the idea of forcing players to make a calculated decision, but like you say not make it "forced" or as obvious enough that it just becomes a chore to scan for red capped zombies before running in. Good call. -

Pick up a book and read. They fantastically explain why this is possible and how it's a cat and mouse game that will never end. VAC/PB are not an exception to the rule, either. VAC/PB just don't have to deal with the fact that if they're bypassed the game provides them a sanctioned way of exploiting the game (scripting engine). They have to find some additional exploit to actually do the work, otherwise their bypass doesn't accomplish anything. Suggested reading via an Amazon book written by white hat hackers: Exploiting Online Games Please show your homework on this. There's no way this could happen unless the private hive owners have written their own BattlEye/VAC/PunkBuster and integrated it into the ARMA2 engine. As far as I know, no such private hives have this functionality. You can't exactly "remotely" scan for client side injection. Again, you show your cards here in not knowing anything about the topic at hand. Even if they did write their own anti-cheat client/server module, integrate it into the server, and require their players run the proprietary anti-cheat engine... they'd be no more advantaged at the situation than BattlEye. In fact, BattlEye would have a leg up on them substantially with their experience with the engine. Nothing you've posted makes any sense and has no factual basis. Stop posting. -

venthos replied to trashcanman67's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I concur. BattlEye has been doing a fantastic job. Negativity bias from the peanut gallery unfortunately causes some people to blame BattlEye the second there's the one hacker that didn't get banned which they ran into. But, many of us know how effective BattlEye truly is and how stacked the cards are against them with the ARMA2 scripting engine. Thousands of rational people forced to listen to your drivel while others smartly skip over the anal evacuations that you call posts, great work FecalFlare. D... did I do it right? I think so. Someone do me next :D me me me! -
Hacker exploded Heli, Heli hasn't respawned.
venthos replied to SwaggyPete's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It does spawn in random spots. It just SEEMED like it only spawned in Skalisty during 1.7.2.5 because vehicles weren't saving, therefore new servers during that time (like mine) never moved onward from the initial spawn locations for vehicles. Check dayzdb.com's map for the list of potential spawn points. There's many other car spawns that don't spawn anything on "first vehicle set" either. You'll see more randomized vehicle spawn locations later as you lose/regain vehicles. Vehicles will respawn at their last known good location as long as no one has SAVED the vehicle in its exploded state. This also could explain why you saw a previously exploded Huey a few hours later (next server restart). If someone SAVES the exploded chopper, The Hive registers it as dead and you have to wait 7 days. For instance I've seen an exploded V3S, ATV, Motorcycle, all respawn in their last saved repair state and location (separate days/times/restarts) because no one had saved the exploded vehicle before next restart. My server's chopper was repaired on Saturday by someone and promptly shot down/crashed in Cherno about 15 minutes later. Ah well, 7 days wait it is! Choppers aren't that great anyway. I had one with my squad for 4 days straight. It is annoying having to try to hide it, and even worse thinking how fucked you are if it gets stolen and you have no quick transportation back to your camp/etc. The mounted M240s are a wildcard because desync issues and general heli movement make them so hard to be accurate with. With the helicopter insta-repair bug fixed even a pea shooter can blow out a windscreen and make it leak fuel like mad. Anyone with a decent rifle can take out your rotor and send you into the earth. It shouldn't be any other way, either. Choppers are very fragile. The repair bug also needed fixing, but it just further cements why I didn't even try and repair it and won't even be looking for it next week. They're just not worth the trouble. A UAZ is the optimal vehicle in my opinion. I would love to see some non-combatant choppers introduced. Like let's say two "news" choppers. Nothing but a spotlight. Helicopters rule for transportation, so making 2 or 3 news helicopters per server spawn that's only use was transportation would be quite awesome. One request, though. A built-in loud speaker so I can fly it through cherno/elektro and yell to the new spawns "Hey there. Safen up down there." while shining the spot light directly at them. :D -
@Rocket; Does it really have to be zombies?
venthos replied to daedrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Zombies just kind of work for this type of game. Why? They're not "special". They're just regular people that have turned from infection into wanting to kill other people. That's what makes them fit so well. Any other creature is going to usually come with some sort of odd creation back story or some special ability that has to be balanced around It'd turn the focus more to PvE. Instead, zombies are simple and to the point. As Rocket has stated, the focus of the game is not going to be on zombies or PvE. It's going to be on player interaction. Picking too "special" of a creature turns the focus more on Player vs AI, which is not what Rocket wants. I wouldn't mind seeing zombies get upgraded or even some limited types of "special" zombies (yeah I know I said I liked them because they weren't special). But I mean special in a different way. Have a few of the zombies (based on town size) spawn as kind of a more intelligent "leader" type zombie. Should you agro that zombie, it growls loud enough to cause a bunch of other zombies in the area to come barreling in (think of it like the zombie yell as if you fired a Lee Enfield in the area). That way if you see one, you'd be smart to take that out first with a head shot for safety before moving in. Otherwise you're going to have ass loads of zombies barreling in on your position plus a zombie scream/growl on the audible level of an enfield alerting nearby players that you're in the area. This changes the mode from barreling into towns to scoping out the town from the perimeter and scanning the zombies looking for any tell tale signs of such 'special' zombies that may need cautious and precise removal before you move into the town. It'd add another 30-60 seconds to looting a town/moving locations, so it wouldn't be game changing. Just enough to make you think a hair before you barrel into a city. I'd like little tweaks like that. Not a whole bunch of crazy tweaked super zombies. Just a sprinkle of 1 or 2 different types that have abilities which make running balls out through a city something you think twice about doing. That's really the only change I want with zombies. Turn up the creepy/scary factor a lot, and add some tweaks to them that make sprinting around town without a care in the world something that isn't so effective. I'm completely with Rocket and his design plans he's communicated to us so far, so I have every confidence it's going to be a great game regardless. I love the zombie angle with DayZ simply because no one has done zombie survival quite like this before. It's usually in twitch-shooter format. -
DAYZ TEAM NOT GIVING MY SERVER ANY VEHICLES
venthos replied to elmendatfc@hotmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You have it all wrong. No one is deciding to "give" or "not give" your server vehicles. All servers SHOULD have vehicles at some point. I *thought* brand new servers didn't get vehicles right off the bat. But, I obviously have no such insider information and I could very well be flat out wrong. The only people capable of answering your question are DayZ staff. A DayZ forum staff member has *already* directed you to go to the IRC channel and talk to the DayZ staff there. There may be a bug, there may not be. I don't know. My only point was you made the most asshole post ever to the DayZ forum staff accusing them of intentionally refusing you vehicles. I'd recommend following up as Legacy has already directed you to do over 6 and a half hours ago. I don't know how DayZ support works when you're not the direct instance ID holder. If you were the instance ID holder, as I am, the best route is lodging a support ticket through their support system. But yeah, I have no idea why you don't have vehicles good sir. Contact the proper people RATIONALLY and CALMLY. I bet you'll get quicker responses and people will *want* to help you then. Try it sometime. -
DAYZ TEAM NOT GIVING MY SERVER ANY VEHICLES
venthos replied to elmendatfc@hotmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
My point wasn't to say he was lying or not, just that he went about trying to find answers the absolute worst way possible. He may well very have a legitimate issue, but no one consciously decided to refuse him vehicles - DayZ Team or otherwise. That's just idiotic to think that. An all caps incoherent post is just ridiculous and has no excuse. Oh, rest assured it's hilarious to me. Most notably because I pay for and run my own server which experienced an issue where IDs over 8000, i think it was, didn't spawn any vehicles. This was many weeks ago, though. So, I had the exact same problem you did (as did others) for about a week. People cried bloody murder over it, and I laughed the whole time at how worked up they got. I am paying more than you are paying for your Value/Budget rent-a-server, and I did not care that my server wasn't "fully functional". I knew it'd be fixed, eventually. I just made sure DayZ team was aware, and that was that. I moved on and continued playing on my vehicleless server. It's still fun without vehicles, mind you. Why wasn't I angry? It's ALPHA. I'm an ALPHA TESTER running an ALPHA ARMA2 MOD. I leased my box full well knowing it's ALPHA and it will have LOTS OF BUGS. If there aren't any bugs, I would be concerned and curious what was going on. You are not entitled to a full featured working ALPHA MOD. Did I mention it's alpha? Yeah, it's alpha. THERE WILL BE BUGS. If you can't deal with it, then you shouldn't be leasing a server. All DayZ server owners should go into leasing a server fully understanding catastrophic things could happen, like the hive going down, and that they may not have access to the mod for some period of time. They should be fine with that. Everyone, however, seems to be racing into this with the most smug self entitled "you owe me a retail finished product RIGHT NOW because I am paying MONEY for my server to host it on. Do you hear that?! MONEY!!" It's just tiresome. That's why I responded the way I did to you. Had you posted in a calm, coherent, and respectful manner I would genuinely want to see you get those features working. Since you're acting like an absolute asshole to the DayZ team and acting self entitled (and like they are intentionally not spawning your vehicles), I honestly hope the DayZ team sits on your request for a while and puts the people with nice and coherent support requests above yours. Rest assured I have absolutely no influence on anything, so you're safe on that front :P -
Solution to backpack reseting, on random morphing for bandits.
venthos replied to hype00's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You have it partially right, hype00. You're involving a bit more complexity than you need to. The solution is just to relog whenever you acquire a new backpack type. That's it. That's the ONLY step you need to follow. No dropping backpacks, no being careful about humanity changes. Relog once for a new backpack type. Done. The bug is that whenever your outfit changes (be it hero/normal/bandit, or putting on a ghillie/camo) the game sets your backpack type to whatever you last logged in with. Therefore as long as you make sure to relog whenever you change backpack types, you'll be fine regardless how many times your outfit changes and regardless what reason it changes. It's that simple. New backup type? Relog! Never experience the bug again :D -
Battle Eye Bans 2000Cheaters
venthos replied to WakeUpDeadMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Incorrect. That would be the complaint from the people buying the stolen cd keys. But it wouldn't be a store in that analogy, it'd be a back alley shady guy they bought it from. But then they'd complain to the store they didn't buy it from that the video camera broke in a day. The analogy you want is buying a video camera from a store (Buying ARMA2 CO), then some days later wanting to look for a battery (Lingor Island) for it. Instead of going to the store (the author's website), you wander the streets (Google/Youtube) until someone says "oh I work for that store I can help." (a "installer" video with random links). They then steal the camera from you and break it when you give it them (you download a trojan). Then, going back to the real store and saying "This is bullshit, my video camera is broken (cd key stolen/banned) i need a new one!" I shouldn't have to buy another one. I admit it's hard to work a "video camera purchase" analogy to a phishing analogy, but I tried to make it work. I think my point gets across ;) -
Battle Eye Bans 2000Cheaters
venthos replied to WakeUpDeadMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
*facepalm* *sigh*. Why do these threads attract the computer illiterate? Didn't we JUST go over how having someone's GUID is useless in terms of obtaining their CD key? Want more GUIDs? http://code.google.com/p/dayz-community-banlist/source/browse/bans/bans.txt Bam. Tons! They're not all globally banned and not all servers use the CBL. Guess what, you still can't do anything with them. Reading the GUIDs out of program memory from the player list doesn't mean anything special. Having a GUID of a player doesn't give you any benefit other than being able to issue a ban against them on your server. -
DAYZ TEAM NOT GIVING MY SERVER ANY VEHICLES
venthos replied to elmendatfc@hotmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The DayZ team has targeted you specifically as part of a conspiracy. I'm not sure what you've done, but you've pissed the wrong people off. Your server is the only server to not have vehicles right now. I heard rumors that urbanfox and/or Max Planck are at the heart of this conspiracy. Be aware of the lies, trust no one. They feel you would be too powerful with vehicles and aim to keep you from ever getting behind the wheel. You've stumbled onto something great here, sir. Godspeed and good luck in your quest to take down the tyrannical vehicle denying crew that has infiltrated DayZ's staff. I swear urbanfox has to be at the heart of it! I fear that by the time you've read my reply, urbanfox will have already sent men in suits with violin cases to my door step. The vehicles, man... you must... get... the vehicles! Avenge meeeeeeeeeeee.... ------- OR --------- It could be something rational like I believe vehicles don't spawn instantly for new instance IDs (to prevent abuse). You might want to, I don't know, ask rationally instead of making an ALL CAPS post and "calling out" the DayZ team for you not having vehicles and implying they've decided to not give you vehicles? Sweet christ, dude. -
Issue Fixing Helicopter -ADVANCED-
venthos replied to axchicago's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, water will make it explode every time. Copters + water = angries! If you explode the chopper and then SAVE the exploded chopper, it should disappear on next restart and respawn at a random chopper spawn location in 7 days. -
I'm with pidian. Using another server to gain position for any reason (even if it's to get to loot pile) would be ghosting. The Hive is meant to be there so that people can always play DayZ -- even when the server they normally play on is full. It's not meant to allow you to abuse the ability to move to other servers to side-step the risks of the game (be it PvP or PvE risks) or to benefit from server hopping for loot. I'd like to see solutions for these issues come forth in Standalone. We'll see, though :)

So someone put an M107 in my tent.
venthos replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The M107 and AS50 are both big black sniper rifles. The M107 is a bit more common and much much louder than AS50. Both will bring zombie friends pretty quick, though. M107 http://dayzdb.com/database/m107#/screenshots AS50 http://dayzdb.com/database/as50#/screenshots There are several "M" pistols in game. Which are you talking about? M1911, M9, M9 SD. They all have their tradeoffs. M9 SD is silent, but inaccurate and rare ammo. M1911 has the highest damage of any pistol (tied with the revolver) but has the shortest range (tied with makarov) M9 has one of the biggest clip sizes (G17 and PDW are bigger), but is equivalent to Makarov damage. -

venthos replied to void.false@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You said it right here: Unless you're going to claim that you spontaneously praise various drinks in the midst of your posts. Which, honestly, would be pretty amusing. Thank you sweet zombie jesus for the elusive Mountain Dew. I shall sacrifice one to "The Mountain" these eve! It's just so cute how you tried to insult me but inadvertently praised me by using the wrong word. Well done sir, well done. Did we really have to bring in mystical sky wizards into this though? That's a whole other debate for another forum ;) Aww :( -

So someone put an M107 in my tent.
venthos replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The best use for an M107 is to run through Cherno firing wildly into the air every few steps yelling "IT'S COMING RIGHT FOR US" over direct chat. You'll make lots of zombie friends and probably make any snipers laugh to the point they'll let you go. The M107 is so ridiculously loud it begs for comedy use. -
Battle Eye Bans 2000Cheaters
venthos replied to WakeUpDeadMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I never said "flawless", but thank you ;) The main point of contention was whether people were being careless or not. That is what he was having trouble arguing against in the face of logic and reason. Absolutely my opinion on whether or not the bans should stand is just that, an opinion. You yourself have even stated those folks are careless, so you agree with me on the point of contention that we were discussing. Right here: But, I would argue that "innocent" and "careless" are mutually exclusive. You can't be innocent if you are careless. Careless implies that you simply do not care to be bothered with the time it would take to investigate/verify something. You pursue something negligently and without regard. To me, this means you can't be innocent and careless. But, I can't see a fruitful argument coming forth from this because at this point I think "careless" deserving a ban or not is just going to be a debate of semantics on what being "careless" implies. When it comes down to it, you feel the punishment for falling for a trojan download is too high. I feel it's fitting. Both are opinions like you say. Fortunately for me, BiS is acting in a way I feel is preferable (regardless what the reasons behind it are, which could be economical like you say).
