  1. I've seen some servers resort to blocking the placement of barbed wire in the first place. Despite that it's most assuredly against the DayZ server rules, I can see why they would do that for the precise reasons you're communicating.

    Servers messed up?

You cannot get globally banned for using a weapon, even if it was a hacked in weapon. You can only get globally banned for being the one who actually hacked in the weapon. So, you can rest assured that the AS50 TWS was guaranteed to not be the cause of the global ban. We constantly get people here claiming they've never hacked and getting globally banned. I believe some people that they haven't hacked, but I do believe that anyone who gets globally banned has either hacked OR been careless and downloaded a key stealer/trojan/etc. In both cases, I feel global bans are warranted. Yes, there was ONE time when people were erroneously globally banned. VERY shortly thereafter it was retracted. We haven't had a false global ban since. Either you are lying and you did hack, or you were careless and downloaded something unsavory that sent your CD Key off to a hacker who then hacked with it.

    DayZ-game for MAC OS

Oh? I knew about the console intention, but not about Mac. That's cool. I just hope all the dev time porting to Console/Mac doesn't detract from new content. That would be the only reason I would be happy without a console or mac port. I'd rather the dev time be spent on content.

    DayZ-game for MAC OS

In all honesty, I don't think that is going to happen. Rocket is using the Take On Helicopters engine as the base, which is a branch off of the ARMA2:OA engine. In other words, they've already committed to a long standing engine that has been built up over many years with absolutely no signs or implications for Mac OS support. It would be a massive overhaul to adapt a game engine that has grown and adapted for such a long time into something that would run on Mac OS. I just honestly don't see them putting in the effort for that as opposed to spending the dev time on content. I also think there's a very low count of Mac folks who would buy and enjoy the game. It's already pretty niche as it is. Of course I don't speak for BiS or Rocket, but I just don't see something like that being even remotely realistic from a cost/benefit ratio consideration.
  5. Say your steam install location is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\ (Mine is custom, so I honestly forget the default location) Then you'd want to... [1] RENAME C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\arma2oa.exe TO C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\arma2oa.exe.original [2] COPY C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe TO C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\arma2oa.exe Done! Moving the old one to ".original" isn't required, but it assures you have the stock version held aside just in case for the future. For any further Beta updates, just perform step #2.
  6. As has already been pointed out, you're following the "pattern of the noob" that snipers and bandits rely on. They rely on people continually going to the same towns, the same locations, and just other predictable behavior that comes from only thinking about the survivor vs. environment aspect of the game. Start thinking about the bandits BEFORE they start laying fire at your feet. Don't barrel into Elektro/Cherno. If you do, don't go to the high value spawns that are easy shots from the treeline. Once you get a weapon, make it a point to do a sweep for snipers before entering a town. Not only is it hilarious fun to counter-snipe, but one or two snipers down usually nets you a full compliment of gear. Stop playing in a way that serves your body up on a plate to bandits. Adapt to the game. Think smart.
  7. I stand corrected then ;) If you're IN the vehicle when it explodes, then you'll have "gotten out" of the vehicle when it is in its exploded state, therefore causing a save. Anytime you get in or get out of a vehicle, it saves its repair state and location. So, that would line up perfectly if you were in the cabin the whole time and only got out of the chopper as a result of it exploding, thus it force ejected you. What I am talking about is where a vehicle explodes without someone being inside of it when it happened. For example, bailing out of a helicopter mid flight. Or, someone destroying a vehicle at someone's camp via grenade/satchel/etc.. I have witnessed the respawn of vehicles in their last saved state after they had exploded at least 5 times of my own server. But, like you've pointed out, only in situations where there was no riders inside at the time it exploded.
  8. The manual install is nearly impossible to bungle up. I'm not sure how you managed that. I end up installing all of my beta patches manually since DayZ commander can sometimes be days behind. It literally is no more complex than: [1] Download beta .zip [2] Unpack [3] Run .exe [OPTIONAL] If you use the "Run through Steam" option in DayZ commander, copy the Expansion/beta/arma2oa.exe over top the main arma 2 operation arrowhead exe [4] Enjoy game! If you've broken your menus you've managed to do something I'm not even sure I could do if you offered me money to reproduce it ;P Sorry, at a loss for you there. But yes, DayZ commander is incapable of recognizing that a newer Beta patch than it's aware of is actually "better". If you use a beta patch that it's not aware of, it claims it's out of date when in fact it's actually up-to-date.

    Is it worth buying server?

The reason I started my own server is that I realized the vast majority of the servers run on DayZ are run by admins who don't know anything about administration other than how to enter their credit card details and perhaps punch a few things into a prefab control panel. I wanted a fast, stable, and reliable DayZ server. I couldn't find one in the wild in my geographical location. Therefore, I started my own. So, if you can find a fast, reliable, and stable server that you have a low ping too (and is actively kept updated/logs checked for hackers/etc) then there's not a lot of reason to start your own. As the server guide says, admins gain no benefits in-game from owning a server. If you can't find such a server, by all means start your own. Just go into it with the mindset that you are throwing away X dollars per month as an entertainment expense. It's an alpha mod, so you could have a broken mod on your hands or functionality busted (vehicles broken, tents not saving, etc.) for periods of time while you're still paying for your server. If you can understand the reality of that, then you'll be fine as a server admin.

Did you know scripters can get you banned?

Yeah, take over contorl of the player's character in game. Not "Take over their GUID". It doesn't matter if they're spawning items while controlling your little character in game, they're still executing the BattlEye bypass on their own workstation and executing the original scripts on their workstation, therefore from their GUID -- not yours. Just like Rocket has already stated, it's impossible to be globally banned because of someone else's actions. Only your actions (or carelessness in the event of you downloading a trojan/key stealer) can result in your global ban.

    Banned from all Vilayer.com servers

This is a new and exciting story that we have not heard before. Please excuse me if I don't buy it for a second. If you're not on the CBL, which you state that you aren't, I believe you're implying that Vilayer specifically is adding you to some custom ban list that only they maintain for their own Vilayer servers. If so, your best recourse is to contact Vilayer. Shockingly, nobody but the people who instantiated the ban can tell you why the ban was instantiated.
  12. As far as I am aware, each vehicle type has a set amount of vehicles that it wants to have spawned on your server. No vehicle can "take up" a different vehicle's spot on your server and prevent it from spawning. If you have no trucks, they've been destroyed and are awaiting their 7 day cooldown before respawning. The way vehicle destruction works is this. *Vehicle gets destroyed* [Possibility 1] If nobody "Saves" the burnt wreckage of the vehicle, on next server restart it will spawn at the last location that a person got in/got out of the vehicle. This means it's very realistic for a helicopter to have its location stored mid-air if people bail out of a crashing chopper before it hits the ground. Note this applies to ALL vehicles, not just choppers. [Possibility 2] If somebody "Saves" the burnt wreckage, that date/time is then saved in the hive as "Vehicle lost on this date/time". After 7 days have passed of the time of that first burnt wreckage "Save" action, a replacement vehicle will randomly spawn during the next server restart at a valid spawn point for that vehicle type. So if you have not been saving the wreckage and have just been watching it burn up restart after restart, your 7 day timer hasn't even started. That really sucks for you. Go save that thing! Then, wait 7 days.
  13. UndetectED not undetectABLE. The last 2 incarnations of this hack were recognized and global bans issued within 24 hours. I'm honestly amazed that people are still going to try it.

    Mission Resets.

Not really a run around. DayZ team is saying that they don't have the resources to continually apply bandaids for an understandably buggy Alpha Mod. So, their policy (to alleviate some of the strain on the already overworked staff) is to not reset instance IDs and simply await for any bugs to be patched accordingly. This is not them confirming there's a problem with your instance ID, simply stating the limits of their policy. When you pressed further, they offered up the only alternative which would be for you to convince your host to dole out a brand new instance ID from your host's own "pool" of instance IDs. This would mean some other person would get your "old" ID most likely. But, that's what they're saying. If your host is saying "no" as well, then that's the answer. That's not a run around. Both are just saying "We won't do anything for you, but the other might". Since they both said that, you have no recourse. If you really want a new instance ID, your only action from here is to cancel/re-order. I'm still not convinced that you need one, though. Regarding the 7 continuous days, I can't see how that's true. I don't really know how a server could survive 7 days of being online and respawns are certainly working for all servers that I am aware of. I'm pretty sure nothing is tracked about your server's uninterrupted uptime, let alone uptime at all. I would be shocked if there were any truth to that claim.

DayZ is Dead. Another Server Down (US 687)

Because no such tools can be effectively created. What kind of "tool" are you expecting? The only tool that can effectively curb hacking for the DayZ mod are client-side anti-cheat engines (BattlEye). To make anything server-side that's effective at combating hacking would require substantial ARMA2 engine changes which would break ARMA2 standalone and all non-DayZ ARMA2 mods instantly. That's the situation we've been aware of since the beginning and one of the main reasons for DayZ going standalone -- so that those exact engine changes can be performed.

    Mission Resets.

You've checked all 8 helicopter spawn locations consistently after the 7th day and know for sure that no one else has found/repaired it after respawn and hidden it in their camp? Impressive :P I sure hope you weren't just checking the initial spawn location for brand new servers (Skalisty Island) and expecting it to respawn there. ;) I'm conflicted on the 7 day thing. You want it to be long enough so that people aren't reckless with vehicles and treat them like disposable cars/helicopters. But, it doesn't take much to knock a chopper out of the sky (nor should it -- they are fragile) and you can quickly end up never having a full compliment of vehicles and only having some small fraction of vehicles spawned on the server at any given time. I think it's a matter of just being proactive and making sure that you or another skilled squad gets the vehicles first instead of some random lone wolf who has never even flown an ARMA2 chopper before and thinks it'd be fun to repair and fly it. The game should always allow for such a retard to do it, as it's on the responsibility of the squads with proper pilots to find and repair it before those people do.

    Server provider choice

The in-game admin panel will be disabled via script restriction if you use the Community Ban List's script filters. This is because enabling this feature allows a guarantee and easy way for hackers to execute their hack scripts. I won't go into the specifics, but enabling this will guarantee that hackers have a ridiculously easy way to hack on your server. I advise that you leave the script restriction in place and forego using the in-game admin panel. Use an RCON tool for out-of-game administration.

DayZ is Dead. Another Server Down (US 687)

See, I am more excited about DayZ than any other game simply because of how Rocket handles the community. This is the first time I've seen a developer stick to his guns with absolution about the design and content that he envisioned. He's not bending to all the idiots who want to homogenize this game down into some fetid boiled mess of a game that's just a clone of every other game out there. He tells whiners to stop crying and toughen up, he tells the community that he's not going to hold their hand in the game. He shoots self-entitled pricks like you right down and sets you in your place. He'll provide the structure and scaffolding for the community to play DayZ how they want, but he's sure as hell not going to try and "balance" it and make everyone happy fluffy Fischer Price fun time. He's an amazing guy for it, and I hope more developers follow his lead with ignoring the droves of idiots in the community who think they know what they want. He obviously knows what people want, as the simple mod had exploded in popularity. Let the man execute his vision. It's obviously working. This is not to say people shouldn't offer up ideas, but expecting your ideas to be implemented or demanding that you have influence over the game's design is just elitist. He's demonstrated that he's a good game designer, you've demonstrated that you're a prick. I think I'll let Rocket handle the final calls. See, I feel the other way around. I think the server admins who use the "money" excuse are the most self-entitled elitist jerks in the community. I am an admin myself and I pay for my own server. I simply view the expenditure as an entertainment expense for my own personal enjoyment. I do not expect ANYTHING in return simply because I decided I loved the mod enough to pay monthly for a server (and that's all being a server admin means). No one should expect anything in return for it. By becoming a server admin, you're just stating that you're a die hard fan. That's IT. You are not entitled to anything because you're a server admin. You don't get some "Special Vote" in the community. Rocket shouldn't coddle you and ask you if you want a bed time story. Seriously, get out of here you self-entitled prick. I'm glad you're shutting your server down because you obviously aren't a proper admin for the community. Let the rest of us good admins take over from here. Go ahead and spew forth your ocean of tears. Good riddance.

[Video] The moment I quit DayZ

Yay another "look at me" quit thread to load into the bandwagon filled with riveting information. This is both new and exciting. Perhaps I can subscribe to your newsletter?
  21. I know it sounds like a broken record, but there is a reason people keep saying this. It's an Alpha mod on an engine that borderline encourages cheating given how trusting of the client it is. Every time I see a post about "DayZ is dead/dying/doomed to fail/blah blah" I just face palm. It's clear that everyone continually forgets the circumstances of this mod. When standalone progresses through Alpha and into Beta, then you guys can start up the cry machines and you'll start to have a point. Until then, the constant BRAND NEW threads about the same rehashed topic and the same thread participants is just getting so goddamn tiresome. It's the brand new threads that irks me. We always have at least 1 active thread about how someone is stating "too many hackers, bye" or "I know why DayZ is going to fail" and that shit. Stick to the existing active thread or don't post a new freaking thread. I'd love to see a new forum section called the "Cry Bin" or "Ocean of Tears" where the mods just move all that bullshit into it.

Why do people put tents in tents ?

You can do this. The items inside don't "count" towards the tent limit. HOWEVER, the contents DO NOT SAVE and you better extract the contents before the server restarts next. Once the server restarts, it will return as an empty bag. So, yes, TEMPORARILY you can store a pack + items. But it won't save the items inside for server restarts.
  23. venthos

Why do people put tents in tents ?

Like has already been stated, it's because they're relying upon restarts to refill the tent and provide them with more free tents to expand their tent city. But, I don't really understand how you say it makes looting tent cities easier. I'd imagine if you're out and about where tents are being placed that you already have a tent camp yourself, no? If so, what does getting more tents do for you to make looting their tents easier? Are you just running 1km way and using it to setup a temporary waypoint between your actual tents and their tents so you spend as little time as possible there? That's still a lot of back'n'forth to ferry items. I guess I just don't understand what getting a tent from them gains you if you're just going to put the tent down near their tents anyway. Like I said, you should probably already have your own tents by then. It sounds like I'm just missing something obvious. Care to share? ;) I personally don't really care if people have tents in tents or not, as I'm usually rolling by in a vehicle and just load 'er up directly to ferry it back to my camp.
  24. It's actually the other way around. Base ARMA2 without a single mod heavily requires the scripting engine. It's just how ARMA2 works. They could lock down the scripting engine to only permit the specific scripting calls made by DayZ and fix hacking. But, they'd end up eviscerating ARMA2 and render it and any other mod than DayZ broken and unplayable That's basically what exactly is going to happen for DayZ standalone. The scripting engine will be torn out (destroying ARMA2 functionality) and the functionality for DayZ hard coded in place without the scripting engine.
  25. I agree. If I see news report of a criminal, I immediately come to the conclusion that the nation's police force is worthless and that 100% of law enforcement nationwide should just be fired. Everyone knows that if you are not 100% effective 100% of the time, you are absolutely useless and should just be scrapped entirely. Do you see how that logic is faulty? They've banned droves of hackers. All you have to do is visit any hack forum and see the oceans and oceans of tears about people saying they were banned and they are upset at having to pay money if they want to play again. Negativity bias is annoying. Stop propagating your bias. ARMA3 will use BattlEye because they have the track record, knowledge, and history to deal with the unique challenges of the type of engine/game ARMA3 is. It would be an "Epic Fail", as you put it, if they went with another anti-cheat engine.
