  4. Here is an even better solution. Remove scroll wheel interactions all together have a Self interaction menu and an object interaction menu just like ace. So to apply things on yourself such as medicine or a bandage you press a specific key, but to interact with objects such as choosing magazine types , opening doors is a totally different button. This leaves the scroll wheel to function as a elevation adjustment button or any number of things are it is better suited for.
  5. We are all well aware that there is alot of discussion about the current dispersion and accuracy game mechanic. This is not about that this is about the discussion if it is feasible and or intelligent to incorporate some sort of Trigger and sight alignment system to more accurately represent the skill that shooting a gun requires. First things first lets talk about the easier of the two to incorporate this would of course be Sight alignment. Anyone that has shot a gun before can tell you the hardest thing about shooting a firearm is keeping your sights perfectly aligned yet in every single video game you hold your sights perfectly aligned with amazing stamina able to hold a firearm up perfectly aligned indefinitely. Sight Alignment This simple chart best demonstrates the effects of bad sight alignment and what results because of it. Here is a GIF of how it could look in game. This would be a good realistic gameplay mechanic that would raise the skill gap between skilled players and unskilled players even higher a good thing for gameplay and the longevity of the game. It would be a relatively easy thing to adopt into the game but as a result of this the dispersion mechanic would probably have to be removed. Trigger Pull Simulation Ok this is the suggestion that I need input on trigger simulation should be a factor in some shape or form it is quite silly to assume the player would have perfect trigger pulls even on instant snap shots. Yet every single trigger pull in game is assumed to be perfect shots. Some games like Project Reality a wonderful BF2 mod attempt to solve this problem by having a dispersion system that progressively decreases in size the longer you are aiming at a target. This represents the patience and skill it requires to line up your sights and taking the time to perfectly squeeze the trigger. This video does a good job of explaining the gun mechanics in Project reality. Reason I like this approach so much is because it could do away with the dispersion mechanic completely and modeling the weapons accuracy would be far better. For instance aiming at a target at 100y with the full duration of time it takes for the dispersion to decrease would result in the following results. M4 = 2 inch groups after 6 seconds or so of aiming akm = 3 inch groups sks = 3 inch groups One other way to simulate trigger pull is to incorporate a very tiny minimal delay between mouse click and the gun firing and this delay would vary between weapon and weapon. Guns with heavy triggers with lots of travel and slack such as akms and bullpups = longer delays Guns with low weight triggers such as hunting rifles, and marksman rifles = shorter delays These are just some ways they can do away with the dispersion mechanic in a way that is closer to reality but what are some ways I missed that could realistically represent these 2 real life shooting mechanics in a way that creates depth to the gameplay and raises the skill gap.

    If the mods would be kind enough to move this thread to the suggestion sub forum I would appreciate it. The thread initially started with the option for input from the community and that input has lead to what I believe could be an awesome shooting mechanic for stand alone. Thanks.

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

    A stamina and weight system is absolutely vital to the game. #1 it adds importance on vehicles #2 it adds another layer to how players decide to play lightly geared and long distance or heavily geared and armored and short distanced. Player enjoyment needs to take a backseat in this argument as it is not important. Gameplay is and gameplay suffers from the unreal tournament style movement in stand alone due to the lack of any stamina or weight system. In order to put such a system in dayz seems realively simple , assign weight values to every item in the game, and the heavier your player is the faster he fatigues and the heavier the player the slower his jog and sprint speed is.
  11. Yea finally EXPLOSIVES. I hope they are a big recipe for crafting. Once persistant objects are introduced I want to see some grenade based booby traps. Video of the grenade explosion in game. Woa that is not realistic but I really dig the realistic need to prep a nade before throwing it. No Cod one button quick throw grenade system here. Everything is thoroughly thought out before hand and less chances of accidentally killing your entire group with an accidental missclick.
  12. I wonder what possible gameplay purpose the peq2 could have in dayz ? I really do not see them giving it is real life properties unless the peq2 is merely a cosmetic device.

    Same here the new sway system is good it is just the amount of sway that seems a bit excessive. This new sway + removal of the crosshair = no more hip shooting people from 200m away.

    Death Messages...

    The game is heavily modifiable so eventually people will have death messages that that meets their desires. We will have those Play 1 is killed by player 2 with m24 @ 923m mods soon enough. I must admit though I miss the dayz mod seeing your body when unconscious pretty hilarious seeing zombies eat you up and or seeing the enemy player come and loot your passed out body.

    Sure most binoculars that are only used for observing but grand majority of military and hunting binoculars have some type of ranging reticle. It hardly cost anything is invaluable at times for quick range estimation without the need for electronics.

    Dayz should never take any consideration on how difficult or accessible it is. If players are saying it is too hard it is doing something right.

    Binoculars

    I am kinda sad we got those old crappy soviet era almost steam punk binos. Modern binos are insanely cheap and readily available not sure why we did not get those. Also sad there is no internal ranging reticle for range estimation using binoculars. would be nice to have size correct reticles inside the optic that could be used for ranging targets in all fov settings.

    Yea that is a possibility. However I think even then people will push their luck and use their first over going through the effort of finding a bow or crafting one. Only time I ever see a bow being useful is if they go the Rust route and go full blown low tech meaning no modern guns and they go all out caveman.
  22. Yup how is that a bad thing ? Precision long range shooting is an extremely hard skill one that in real life take years upon years to master. Making even 500m shots in game should require some skill as it currently stands sniping in standalone is unacceptably easy and it is one area of the game that should never ever be accessible. People need to struggle and dedicate time to learn it. This is why I think a Sniping method such as the ACE mod is vital to making dayz a better game. A 5 year should should not be able to jump into dayz never having played the game and kill people at 300 m with a sniper rifle without having received any instruction on how to.

    Crossbow and the bows are completely useless and were a waste of time imo. Having these things in a game where modern day firearms exist is a complete waste of time. Against people these two things are pretty useless atleast it is now.

    This is the first weapon that excites me in a long time. The upcoming remington 870 that was shown is also a great addition. Low end gear emphasis is fantastic.
