How would you combat player suicide?

That is not a problem that requires time and atleast some effort unless you get lucky and see a zombie right when you spawn. Timer might be good yup.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

Absolutely nothing suggests that the majority of the players that play dayz are casuals. It is a fucking pc game for gods sake. To even gaming on a pc you have to be sort of hardcore. If this was a console game sure you could argue most people were casuals but its a Early access PC game how in the world could you possibly argue that most people consist of occasional gamers and casuals. Casuals do not buy Early access games on steam, casuals do not help test alphas, casuals simply do not even purchase a game like dayz.

What kind of exploits ? Also if you break your legs sure you can climb again but how are you going to stand up and climb over the railing ? Increasing the death fall height to realistic levels and having all other falls result in broken legs would stop the suicide epidemic.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

I really cannot fathom why anyone would want anything streamlined aka dumbed down in dayz or any game for that matter. Ammo and weapons should be rare and hard to come by and guess what having correct calibers on each and every weapon is one surefire way of doing that. How could you possibly know that ? Seriously ? how ? Really so you are telling me that most of the player base for an early access game that steamed from a mod for a very niche Modern day military simulator are casual gamers ? Don't be so daft the grand majority of people who play dayz are anything but casual.

How would you combat player suicide?

Yea but for that to work their copy of dayz would have to be deleted and their cd key removed for this to make sense.

How would you combat player suicide?

That. You live with what you are given and loot in the area that you randomly spawn in. Having dozens and dozens of players mass suicide just to spawn somewhere else is counter productive .
  10. The rarity of certain items is part of the enjoyment. What would be the bloody point of rare items that everyone has access to.

How would you combat player suicide?

That would be great in dayz. The suicide player would be so pissed when his attempt to suicide backfires on him and he is stuck crawling for hours.
  12. They could reduce the delay in and make the weapons snap around faster and thus still be added without feeling unrealistic.
  13. Then let them I still fail to see how its a problem.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

As people have explained countless times in this thread and elsewhere it has a very important reason and it is not just realism. The reason to add the correct calibers is to ensure that finding ammo for weapons is that tiny bit harder.Realism is just a bonus.
  15. The way I see it is they will solve server hopping and all of the other problems separately. They can't simply abandon an intriquate and meaningful game mechanic like finite resources just because some asshats decide to server hop for loot. Because of luck and chance. If he is there at the right time at the right places then he gets the goods. Also ask yourself this why would anyone fill up on rares and log off forever why would that make sense for anyone to do. Also how would they seemingly fill up on rares if they are rare to begin with. The chances for someone to even find a rare finite weapon or attachment is already low combine that with the even lower chance that the person wants the item to then log off ? That honestly to me is a very unlikely fear. Server hopping is a huge problem and given time it will be eliminated atleast that is what I hope. If not private hives will thrive and hopefully they have their own loot management system. I would assume loot management in private hives is not unlike Rust where you can determine the drop rates of items and eliminate some all together.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

Because it is yet another step that slows down their coastal pvp.
  17. If anything I wish the game punished suicide and forced players to try to survive not kill themselves repetitively for a better spawn so they can go coastal pvp. A nice time out timer would be great, max of 2 lives per hour. You die twice within the timespan of 10 minutes of spawning wait the remainder of the hour for another 2 more characters.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

Exactly the problem is having correct calibers is not even a huge thing to be concerned about what if they ever adopt a realistic medical system, realistic shooting mechanics, realistic vehicle repair ? Will the devs be willing to dumb those things down too ? just so a handful of people don't get overly confused ? I say ignore the people who can't spend 10 minutes on google looking up how to do something in game. It isn't rocket science yet the idea of realistic things such a stamina system, or having to find the right caliber for a gun makes some people lose their shit. Part of me thinks they complain because realistic additions just gets in the way of their endless loop of spawn, loot, pvp, die and repeat.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion

Depth, complexity, variety , raises the skill gap, allows for real world knowledge to affect in game activity. Realism adds all these, it is not hard to grasp realism makes the game deeper and thus more fun with a longer lifespan.
  20. Once again how is this a bad thing ? For something to be extremely rare this would be a requirement no ? Would you rather not have a system in place where there is a wide variety of loot and in some cases you never come across all of it a game where every time you play you might get lucky and finally see a rare item you always wish you wanted. Making certain things almost unattainable is a great concept.
  21. I think part of the problem is the characters ability to shrug off rounds without a care in the world. The damage value of the weapons might be fine but most of the strangeness is probably attributed to players being able to take multiple rifle hits and sprint away like a healthy marathon runner. No limping, no hurt stances, no incapacitation I do remember seeing a hurt animation in an experimental patch a long time ago it was pretty fantastic. Although I am sure this might or will change seeing as the damage model is probably still very early and a work in progress. Curious about the damage in Standalone however is it tied to the velocity of the round as it hits the player much like Arma 2 ? or is it completely different for stand alone.
  22. How is the number of players relevant ? This is a measure to prevent weapon duping and keep rare weapons rare. Again how is this a bad thing.
  23. The loot system they propose helps combat that. Pretty much it just limits the sheer number of military weapons in the game and high end loot so it is actually rare. How would server raiding work exactly if there's no way to predict where the gear is going to be.
  24. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/six-upcoming-developments-that-will-change-dayz-for-the-better/1100-6420740/ Be sure to visit the site and read the comments. Mostly good especially the loot system but accessibility is terrible. The game is being made accessible for the people in the comments. Review is quite good too, demonstrates that even casuals will learn and adapt after the initial shock thus dumbing the game down isn't needed.
  25. I would assume they will eventually fix the damage all of the weapons cause to more realistic levels. There is no reason why the m4 should kill with so many rounds. 1-2 hits, 1 to the chest to knock someone out or 1 to the head to flatout kill them.
