What are good game mechanics/ features from other games that work in dayz ?
gibonez replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Free aim is kinda hard to describe it but here read this. http://technicalgamedesign.blogspot.com/2011/04/aim-systems-in-first-person-shooters.html It just feels so good. -

It is not about what advantages it provides to the player or if it is realistic the advantage of forced free aim is what it does to gameplay. Spend some time playing Red orchestra 2 and you will instantly appreciate it. The best way I can describe what it does to gameplay is that it increases the skill gap, it makes shooting people at 50m far harder than it would be to shoot someone at 400m on a twitch shooter. This of course is a thing that can be overcome with practice. The other potentially huge bonus of such a forced system would be that it can help seperate the weapons and make them each feel extremely different without resorting to unrealistic attributes like dispersion or strange weapon damage values even in weapons of the same caliber. With the free aim system they can make a long heavy unweildly weapon like a mosin hard to aim and maneuver in close quarters yet feel more stable for long range encounters while giving a pistol desireable attributes for short range combat but not long range shooting. There is just so much more customization the devs could do to the gun mechanics and handling if they choose to go with a forced free aim mechanic. -
Spawned and my character is sitting next to me.

Another reason why private hives are needed and they should just get rid of the hive character mechanic. One character per server fixes so many problems. -

Free look I really hope that means they copy the Red Orchestra 2 approach to aiming and shooting. Forcing everyone to have free aim and free look would be amazing a non adjustable free look setting that varies gun by gun combined with the dexterity system would be a real satisfying system. -
I mean it in terms of gameplay improvements that would come from this. Establishing .22lr weapons as the base most common firearm in the game has great potential we would see alot more people maim each other instead of outright killing themselves with a single shot. Key is to offer more .22lr weapons, A .22lr revolver, a Bolt action highly accurate .22lr with a max effective range of 400m, a unsilenced far more common .22lr pistol.

Sure for the person trying to ghost in not for the player who manages to not get shot in the back from a room he just cleared.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
gibonez replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
One of the biggest problems plauging Dayz. Item dupingHackingGhostingServer HoppingSpawn RoulettingAll of these player behavior problems that are toxic to the game. -
You are seeing it from the wrong approach. Think of it this way. By increasing the rarity of items and making them highly sought after when you finally do get a car or your group does this will make the experience all that much greater. Creating true rarity in the items is what will make Dayz shine imagine the pure joy you will feel when you and a group finally get a car running and the sheer terror you will feel if someone tries to take it from you.

Dev Position on firearm realism and Regular vs Hardcore.
gibonez replied to AP_Norris's topic in Suggestions
Realistic everything. For those that say this is not balanced just refer to real life. Real life balances itself. -
Feels the same for me and I have only been killing on sight from on top of a building for 2 days now. Sway is great . Shooting feels really nice but the lag and hit detection is still a ways off. The #1 change I have noticed now that I did not feel before is how the ragdoll provides instant tactile feedback to the player that the person he is shooting at has dropped from his shot. After pooping someone and if the lag and everything works fine you get immediate feedback . Sprinting for 10 seconds is more than enough time to get your heart rate to 150 BPM and above where controlling your aim is hard.

saw this earlier so appropriate.

Check your keyboard settings im guessing you have spin left or right binded to a stuck key. What I would do is clear those 2 binds and see if it keeps happening.

ok and ? -
Same here. I would love it for when the loot managment system takes off they limit Assault rifles, non Eastern weapons to only a handful across all servers. I want to see the grand majority of people with bolt guns, shotguns, 22lr rifles and pistols. SMGS being the common rare loot in military bases.

I cant begin to tell you how much I like this idea. Would make perfect sense too if the SVD is extremely rare.

Suggestion is to completely revamp the way shooting mechanics work and closely try to mimic using video game concepts the trance that an experienced shooter goes through when focusing on making a shot. The applications this would most benefit from is when using iron sights are when using scopes you would be stuck at whatever magnification the optic already uses. My idea is to have the shift button function as a focus button when shooting, not holding your breath but instead a completely different button that could be used in conjunction with holding your breath. How it would work is in order to maximize the potential of a shot you would have to go through a series of steps that progressively increase your accuracy potential for a calculated shot. How it would work is you aim your weapon like you would ordinarily you are presented with a far back view of the iron sightsYou press shift and in a very progressive way the sound around you starts to lower and you can hear your characters heart beat as this is happening very slowly your character begins to focus on the iron sights of the firearm and they slowly get larger and come into focus.Eventually after a set number of time depending on your stance ie. Prone : 3 seconds, crouch or sitting : 4 seconds , Standing : 5 seconds you achieve maximum focus and are firmly concentrated on the iron sights of your rifle and have far more precision and reduced sway. At this point you hear only your characters heart beat and breathing you can then hold your breath to prepare your shot. Once you shoot you lose complete focus and are reverted back to your initial state of firing.Final view is this the entire screen focused on the irons after the max focus time This idea would add depth to the shooting and at the same time promote or at the very least allow some of the firearms to be used well within their actual effective ranges even within a video games limitations.

Where optics I think shine is in target identification it lets you aquire a target and then without any mistake know what the target is. This is where they shine however I really see no increased effectiveness with a scope or irons when shooting within a rifles effective range unless we are talking long range past 500m. Yea and this should be reflected in game. The focus mode would work best with weapons that the irons were made for long range. Weapons with bad irons like an akm would obscure the target at 500m but be reasonable to use at 300m. Weapons like the mosn or the m14 with its awesome pep sights would allow for precise aiming at targets at 500m.

The m4 could absolutely be the top end military rifle in the game but only if one thing happens. The m4 along with all the weapons in the game are given their real life characteristics. The m4 could easily fit the role of highest end rifle for numerous reasons. sheer amount of firepowerFlat shooting, highly accurateLight recoil for easy repeat shotsExtremely modular to fit any conceivable role from CQC rifle to makeshift silenced SPR. If the game goes away from arcade dispersion and gives the weapons their real life attributes the m4 could be the rarest highest end Assault Rifle in the game and it would make perfect sense. There is a reason after all that most of the worlds special forces choose the m4 as their preferred carbine and not some new fangled rifle that is the flavor of the week. With the near unlimited budget of special forces all over the world they always keep coming back to the m4 and that is for a reason. Everyone from US special forces to Russian special forces use the m4. It is so highly adaptable for any situation.

Great a bipod that creates yet another pressure point and lowers the accuracy of a mosin even more. Some of the Ukrainian separatist had these no ? I remember one being mounted in a picture on what looked like an ar15.
-
1. Sway is the same it just appears amplified due to the magnification . Hold your breath before shooting it works. 2. No standard milspec bipod was ever issued or provided for the mosin nagant in its entire soviet service. Aftermarket ones exist sure but these do not mount on without any gunsmithing and or machining. 3. No such thing as a sniper rifle, a sniper is a person. Range is not the sole requirement to be a precision rifle , accuracy is. Mosin is a service rifle with questionable real life accuracy especially when using surplus machinegun ammo.
-
1. Sway is perfectly fine . I have no problem hitting people with it with iron sights at 300m so with optics it should be even easier. 2. No bipod for the mosin its silly that it would have one as there is no easy way to mount one nor was one ever issued for it. The LRS should also be removed as time goes on and more suitable rifles are added for it. Althought today the m4, 10/22, and blaze 95 all are optics ready meanwhile the mosin should not. 3. The game is perfectly fine with or without high end sniper rifles. The cz 527 is also not a precision rifle nor is the mosin.

Should work like Red orchestra 2. Middle mouse button bayonets if no bayonet is there you smack with your butt.

Of course not but the human eye is also not 1080p it is substantially I mean substantially higher thus the way we perceive distance can only be emulated in game via some sort of zoom. Btw those rocks are only 200m away not a huge distance away so while it might appear really zoomed it really isnt and could probably use a little more zoom to allow it to be used up to 500m on a human sized target. Overall I just thought of the idea as a means to increase the viability of iron sights to be used in their effective ranges. There seems far too much of a reliance on optics in the game already with nearly every weapon having some sort of optic to aid in shooting. Irons in real life are perfectly viable for shooting people up to about 500m with area targets being very much possible at 1000m. The idea generally just increases the complexity and depth of shooting something I see as a good thing in a way that is not too gamey.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
gibonez replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yea I guess it all comes down to personal preference. Wonder if the raze is simply inspired or propagated due to the love for modularity. When it comes to this you really cant beat a chassis system. -

Bonus - Russian-made ORSIS T-5000. Funny you posted those .I am not a fan of the current chasis craze hitting the precision rifle market. These chasis are soo heavy and uncomfortable to shoot and pricey as heck not sure why they are taking off. I got a chance to shoot one of these KRG chasis on a Remington 700 action in .308 little over a month ago and I gotta say it looks nice but the fucker was so heavy and sucked to shoot. The position for the bipod made it really hard to load and it felt really rear heavy. To this day the best feeling and best overall stock I have had the pleasure of experiencing is a Mcmillian stocks for me atleast you can't beat a traditional stock.
