Pretty reasonable to expect weapon resting and bipod deployment to be a thing in the future.
-
Ok great nice to see they kept it in and did not remove it after people whined and moaned about it.
-
Sure of course but it will give people more of an incentive to loot civilian spawns too. So if done right you would see people putting higher value on civilian spawns .
-
Pretty much the battle rifles should be iron sight and red dot sight only. Leave the high powered optics to bolt actions and rifles with limited sized magazines.
-
Yup huge drop at that range but still enough to puncture the skin and cause bleeding if it hits an organ it causes a serious injury. It will reach there and hit with somewhat decent accuracy when fired out of the right rifle like a cz 455.

It is the first version of what surely is a work in progress. The sway even in this early stage works well. I imagine in the future the shooting mechanics would get even more complex and better with additions of wind, weapon resting, bipod deployment and any other methods.
-
I still think the best approach to any of the magnified scopes is to have them be 2d scopes. Highly detailed 2d scopes + correct magnification = best and easiest solution.
-
The new sway makes shooting harder period. This is a good thing there is no way players should be able to easily make 300m+ shots with the ease that they were able to in the past. Sway is just one of what I hope is many new additions that are added to make shooting in this game more challenging and increase the skill gap. This isn't a twitch shooter and it should not play like one.
-
Yea that was a dumb change.
-
You still have to render the scene twice so there will be performance loss regardless. The pip in this video looks quite nice though.
-
RPG elements would be terrible.
-
It is one of those tricky things. Do they add it and reduce the FPS by half everytime you aim on a game that already has problems with performance and historically has always had this problem ? Or do they go with 3d scopes or 2d scopes and somehow fix the FOV zoom issue by locking it down so everyone has the same magnification when aiming regardless of their regular FOV setting. I am not a dev but the answer would be pretty straight forward. As far as immersion, I have shot quite a few scoped rifles and yup it looks nothing like that even with both eyes open. Your brain does a great job of blurring everything out so you really only see whats is being magnified on the optics.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
gibonez replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
More Eastern European weapons including Czech guns. Little to no Western military rifles , snipers or machineguns. -
Crossbow and Bow are both useless adding another bow would make it equally useless.

Yup we are finally getting tiny adjustments to the actual gameplay and the game feels alot better. Id like to add the new slower movement speed that is a result of them changing the controls. I love how you can no longer strafe side by side like a maniac when your weapon is raised. There is still a long way to go before it feels completely fluid and realistic but the last thing they did helped.
-
I say increase the current sway but allow ways to compensate or stop it. Such as weapon resting allow resting on any surface in the game so if you want to have a really steady shot you can.
-
More realistic than the robotic lack of sway we had before thats for sure.

What are good game mechanics/ features from other games that work in dayz ?

If they ever do add stamina and weight and I hope they do. Something like this awesome lightweight mod would do a great job of giving the player feedback on how tired they are. -
Ahaha I love that movie. The Bbq references throughout the entire film were great.
-
No sure but if you gave a bunch of bullets a magazine and a gun to a 5 year old kid and told him load the magazine, and fire the gun. 9/10 kids who have watched movies or played video games or heck even seen the news would know how to get it to work.
-
A Neanderthal could load bullets into a magazine. Weapons were built to be easy to use and require little to no training. Plus just about anyone exposed to any modern media would know the very fundamentals of operating a firearm. The better question to ask is how the fuck are these survivors magically healing life threatening gunshot wounds to the throat with a dirty ripped up t shirt.
-
You do realize the Fn Fal, the spanish cetme, and the g3 are some of the most prolific weapons of all time right ? Just about every single conflict since its inception has had these 3 rifles in it. These 3 battle rifles would be far more common than any modern production military issued BR. Every conflict from Libya to Syria is littered with Fn Fals. Iraqi weapons cache.

Players have no military training they are just survivors. The sway should not be examined in a sense of realism because well frankly with mouse and keyboard anything is going to be unrealistic. However the new sway is a step in the right direction of making shots a chore much like real life. It takes a very real mechanic sway, and exaggerates it or adjusts it so that it makes it harder for a player to land shots at ranges that would ordinarily be hard in real life but downright comically easy in game. I rather have a game mechanic like sway that makes hitting someone at 100m take skill and patience over what we had before with 12 year old kids "sniping" people with the mosin at 1200m. The new sway is just one step at the right direction with additional things added it could result in a cohesive and downright satisfying shooting mechanic that is far more aligned in realism than what we have today. New Sway mechanicsStamina and weight systemRealistic weapon ballistics and real life accuracyweapon resting and bipod deploymentwindForced free aimAdd all those things together and you have a super rich shooting game one that does not simply cater to beginners.

Arma 3 got its bootcamp update today. Coolest feature is the all new stamina and sway system making shooting harder and nowhere near as easy as it was before. Awesome hope the stamina system and the sway improvements make their way to Dayz eventually.

I think the circle method was used before in Red orchestra 1 and the problem encountered was that when you needed to look at a different direction it was not as responsive thus the rectangle method was used. The rectangle kinda makes sense too pretend to hold a rifle without moving your hips, aim the furthest to the right and left that you can without moving your hips then aim the furthest up and down that you can, you should be able to aim much higher and lower than you would side to side.
