Weapon sway and RMB - something is broken
gibonez replied to robophant's topic in General Discussion
It is not broken its just a new mechanic , learn it , learn to love it and get better with it. -
This game is and always will be way too military focused by players
gibonez replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Yes more of this Less of this -
The other reason this would make sense is that it would totally fit the setting. This is a weapon I would expect to find in a crate in an abandon military base in eastern russia or the ukraine. It makes sense it is not jarring or out of place.

That is debatable. People don't seem to be complaining about the amount of military gear spawning in the game they seem to be complaining whenever any military stuff is added, we all remember how the community overreacted to the flashbang being added. Instantly proclaiming Dayz to be emulating COD. The people who want dayz to not turn into arma would much rather see a .22lr revolver instead of a fancy smancy sniper rifle from some obscure corner of the world. They rather see more and more civilian weapons and clothing added instead of any more military themed stuff being added. I am not saying they wouldn't want any military weapons however the same people who don't want arma redux are the same ones who begged for the makarov and the akm. I am sure that same crowd would be open to Eastern Military weapons being added and those seem to be coming with the SVD. -
Sure why not it has that old school cool soviet vibe. Won't matter anyway nobody will play on night servers making this useless though.

I never said it would make the game bad. I am merely explaining how and where the anti military gear stance comes from. Arma is great heck military gear is great in arma and everyone loves that but keep that in Arma. People simply wan't dayz to be different to truly be a zombie survival game and not Arma 2 with zombies as would surely happen with a wide selection of military clothing, equipment and weapons. -

Cmon man wouldn't you love it if your character was so weak and could not move fast enough from being malnurished that you get stuck up by this guy ? A game where you are balling out of control if your revolver has all 6 rounds in it ? A game where if you encounter another player you instantly get super possessive and defensive about your half a can of beans and your canteen of filthy ash water ? -

Of course not I am just saying people don't want dayz to turn into arma or any other mainstream bro shooter this is where the hesitation and dislike for military themed things seems to stems from. The anti military stance also probably comes from what the mod turned into with dayz mods like breaking point where the entire game is full of high end military gear. The SKS and the Mosin would of course not apply in the same category of what constitutes a military weapon. Sure once a long time ago those were military issue but now they are no longer have the mind share as being a military weapon. Both of them are now more popularized for being cheap, affordable mil surplus rifles that shoot cheap affordable ammo that is readily available. -

It is quite simple. People don't want arma. If they wanted to play Arma they would be playing Arma. They wan't Dayz to be something completely different from Arma and ignore the military aspect as much as much as possible. They wan't dayz to be this Not this -
DayZ is literally unplayable at the moment
gibonez replied to private-pile's topic in General Discussion
You are testing the game. These things are to be expected. Your character could and will be deleted at any time without notice. Sure you should get angry and annoyed if this happened when the game was released but cmon man at this early stage you should expect all this. -

Yea they are already doing some of this and its awesome. Adding more low tier weapons would make the game better. They start adding tons of high end military weapons and the game just turns into battlefield or any modern mass market shooter with zombies thrown in. -

Yup the more low tech the stuff is in the game the more survival plays a role. Really jarring to see a "survivor" with a fully kitted out AKM with bipods and a drum magazine fully decked out in military gear when the game supposedly takes place in a harsh desolate world where basic necessities are all but gone and humans are just struggling to survive. -

Give it time man. I am sure once the loot control system is in place going to a Military base will result in nothing if all of the rifle slots are out in the wild already. -

The weapon selection in the game thus far is really civilian focused and the actual weapons are unique and do not fit the mold of 99 percent of the Bro shooters in the market. Sadly yea some aspects of the game are too military focused such as the clothing but I am sure with time especially once they get the loot management system up and running they can make all military items everything from mil clothing to military pistols and rifles severely controlled and restricted. I have little fear that Dayz Standalone will turn into a bro shooter by having a heavy military focus like the mod did. Standalone seems to be focusing on the survivors just being ordinary players not ex special forces commandos who just survive by precision sniper fire and outflanking other ex commandos. -
Even then the same problem would arise the only real solution would be to have a procedurally created map like RUST and Minecraft. However they can achieve a similar result by randomizing the current spawn system.

Why...........(movement and avatar control)
gibonez replied to creativecole's topic in General Discussion
There are great things to take from Counter strike such as the way it provides players subtle feedback on things that dayz completely fucks up. However copying the movement and aiming from that game is absolutely the worst thing they can do. CS is a tactical twitch shooter, dayz is a zombie survival sim. Having lightning fast reflexes would not work in dayz. -
Absolutely some people know the map like the back of their hand. However you must admit that if a randomized spawn system was ever implemented it would break your pattern in game. Each spawn would not be met with the exact same pattern you would have if you knew the spawn location by heart. The same loot locations you constantly loot will be different depending on where in the map you believe you are. Every once in a while you might actually get lost with a curveball of a spawn that you can't quite grasp. Yea they might but the great part about spawning in the wilderness is that it would take ages to spawn in an ideal location. First you would have to figure out where you are then traverse to an ideal location to kill yourself from. This would easily delay the spawn to suicide by 15 minutes atleast. Combine that with having to find your location each time it could take hours before you find a spawn that fits what you desire. You would have wasted hours that you could have been looting anyway for a military loot location that you will probably not survive going in empty handed. This is a way to delay what people would do anyway in a way that also improves the game for everyone else by breaking the routine of everyone and keeping the game fresh and fluid every single spawn.
-
That potential 15 minutes already improves the game . Those 15 minutes of anxiety as a whole creates a better experience and keeps the spirit of uncertainty.
-
Exactly. Spawning in the wilderness with no sense of direction would help the gameplay alot. Every single time you spawn you will spend perhaps hours getting your bearings straight while trying your best to survive off the land. Meanwhile this also improves gameplay for geared players as the map is now evenly distributed with players and a player encounter can happen anywhere and at anytime.

Only thing I am worried about with the onset of a console version is if certain things will be eliminated and outright not even be considered if they do not fit in with the console version. Things like Defecation and DiseaseCannibalismThose I can't see getting added if the console version and the pc version have content parity. Let's just hope they take the Operation flashpoint route. Offering the full experience on pc with out fear of censorship. Streamlined family friendly version in consoles like OFP elite was.

Love the idea of modular storage however the more they add the greater the need for a realistic stamina and weight system .

Will we eventually get different reloading 'tiers'?

This would be great. I would also love it for the vicinity action was removed and instead replaced by a toggle action where you go into an animation looking down on the ground and then items come up in the vicinity screen. -
Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
gibonez replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I highly doubt the bullet would stabilize when shot out of a 6 inch barrel when the twist rate was designed for the 20 inch + barrel. If I had to guess the bullet would be keyholing all over. -
BI walked that road years and years ago.

There is some light at the end of the tunnel however. Regardless if or not they dumb down, streamline or gimp dayz from what they were originally going to do. We will always have the wonderful mod community to pick up the slack and fix problems.
