    You were one of the lucky ones. By an large mosins are not like yours. The rifles were hastily built and were not quality controlled , reliable good rifles absolutely. Precision rifles absolutely not the cheap surplus ammo does not help.
  2. Yup thats great news. I am not sure why they are waiting for vehicles to implemented when they could have nailed the player movement speed early on. It is not like vehicles will be so wide spread to have any meaningful effect on the average player.

    Right now but in the future I am sure there will be other bolt hunting rifles that actually take modern optics right out of the box to replace the mosin. Mosin and the sks were produced in the millions they are absolutely going to be common and thus be found in the game. Statisticlly you are more likely to find an SKS and a mosin over a new production hunting rifle outside of a few exceptions such as Remington 700 of which millions have also been made.

    Yup but I would say even the pu scope is pushing it. Unless they make the pu scope a restricted item and have only 500 or so of them spawn in the world. By an large the mosin should be an iron sighted no optic bolt action starter survivalist rifle. Not very accurate but if the player is skilled body shots at 300-500m are totally doable.

    No the m4a1 should remain a helicopter spawn. The m4 is the defacto special forces weapon in the world no other weapon system is anywhere near as versatile and modular as it. All things considered the m4 should be the one of the premier weapon systems in the game due to how versatile it is and how it can not only adapt but rule over any role.

    There is no war on snipers. simply put there is just a bunch of unfinished game mechanics that in turn make the easiest way to play the game a little annoying at the moment. A unfinished damage model that makes regular clothing soak up damage, a unrefined sway mechanic that while decent needs a little bit of work. Even with those problems sniping is still the easiest way to play the game and sadly unless something like this is added sniping should remain nerfed as it requires zero skill and I do mean zero, arma and dayz sniping is just point and click. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/208790-advanced-ballistic-model/ so until then Sniping should remain a joke due to how easy it is.

    Of course not. However as much as you like to tout the world being a global economy the chances or likelihood of finding a very obscure magazine that would be rare in America would be downright impossible to find halfway across the globe.Drum mags are not like Pmags that are insanely cheap and millions have been sold thus likely to be found. Drum mags for the Ar15 are expensive and not widely adopted by even the American civilian market. Reason I mentioned if it was standard issue is simply because if it is indeed standard issue then it has an exponentially higher chance of actually being found in that part of the world.
  10. I am of the belief that none of the clothing items even plate carriers should reduce the damage in any shape or form. Keep the dayz mod damage system where regardless of time alive you are always just as vulnerable everyone with the same health and armor protection everyone equally as likely to fall victim to a single gunshot from a makarov. Have plate carriers and other vests only differ in look and in inventory slots nothing else.

    AKS-74U confirmed... could this mean...? no...

    correct me if wrong but Vz 58 accessories do not work with AKM accessories right ? If that is true they can add the vz 58 as the low tech non adjustable version of the akm and resort to having the AKM be the high end 7.62x39 variant ak that has lots of accessories and modularity.

    The amount of fire power the AKM and the m4 have is insane in standalone. I am ok with that so long as they are in the very upper tier of weapons and are put in the list of restrictive weapons. hopefully when the hive loot system is in place, the m4, akm, 101 , high capacity drum mags, and optics are all managed so only a certain small number spawn across all servers. Also does the US military even issue any Drum magazines ? I don't think so. I could be wrong but I thought the only drum mags found for ar 15s are found strictly in the civilian market and those things are extremely expensive and pieces of crap.

    Development isn't slow although having to fix bugs on stable I would imagine slows development substantially.

    I like this. While having a wide variety of AK patterned weapons they can and should feel vastly different due to different muzzle velocities, the awesome weapon inertia system, recoil impulses and hopefully in the future a weight and stamina system that determines what your mobility is depending on how heavy your character is. Not only would the world feel authentic and very eastern the weapons would all feel unique and different.

    Advanced Ballistic Model

    I recently discovered a brilliant ballistic mod for arma 3. A mod that manages to not only simulate wind in a accurate manner but that also simulates most of the other intricacies that are required for long range precision shooting. Here is a breakdown of what the mod offers. He added degree indicators on some optics on the left hand corner of the screen. Pressing Shift + k gives you players indication of where the wind is coming from and roughly how strong it is depending on the arrows color. This light green means relatively light wind and the angle means its at half value. The mod also adds mil/moa elevation and windage adjustments adding more skill into sniping. Example of a .50 cals bullet flight trajectory. You guys can download the mod here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?181324-Advanced-Ballistics-%28WIP%29 Or On play with six. The mod plays nicely with the authors other two mods a ballistic calculator and a krestel Although within the context of Dayz these two are probably not needed as they don't fit the low tech survival theme. Anyways this is a great mod and I recommend you try it . This makes long range shooting require skill, experience and eliminates the 12 year point and click sniping of dayz and vanilla arma. Something that is greatly needed in dayz especially since dying has so much meaning due to permadeath. Ruthberg the author of this mod once again proves that the Arma and Dayz mod communities are the games greatest asset and they will ensure these games are successful even years from now. Example videos of how this great mod changes the ballistics and how it would benefit dayz immediately by balancing sniper rifles. Things like KOS would be dramatically reduced.

    Author of the mod posted some videos on the wind and how its calculated. Really awesome stuff love how even the wind is affected by the environment further making shots a more complex affair. With wind like that making a high altitude shot with the wind to your back easier meanwhile the opposite would be insanely hard.

    Say the ak74 does make it back and they choose to keep both the ak101 and add an ak74. What version would fit in ? Obviously if the AK101 sticks it would far too similar to the ak74m confusing some players. So do they go with the aks-74. ak74 with plum furniture , ak74 with light tan bakelite furniture ? Also people should be more excited about a derringer hopefully it signifies another .22lr weapon a good prostitute pistol. Hopefully lace is added so we can holster it on our inner thigh.

    I have a feeling that 5.45 will come eventually. It is far too prevalent and would make too much sense from both a realism stance and from gameplay aspects. It will probably come in the easiest form too a simple renaming of the ak 101.

    Anti tank rifles

    The only rifle that makes sense in this category is the PTRS-41. Soviet origin, still used today recently in conflicts in Ukraine , Libya and Syria. 14.5×114mm , No optics, single shot, no magazine required. would be balanced but one problem remains. What role would it play ? Base assault ? Base defense ? Vehicle Ambush weapon ? More importantly how would it be implemented without a stamina and weight system in place. The only thing more ridiculous than fully kitted out survivors sprinting at 30 km/h with 30 pounds of military gear and a 10 pound rifle , is the same but this time with a 46 pound weapon.

    Would be nice but I doubt it will ever happen. Would bring so many problems with clipping due to head gear.

    God no. Keep the military stuff out of vanilla Dayz. Leave the tacticool military crap for the mods because you know they surely will do that. Have vanilla be civilian focused and the mods go nuts with whatever they want.
