    Allies Victorious!

Yes I was counting the civilian version. I will have to say chances are there are more civilian scars in US homes than those countries you mentioned. Although impossible to get an number It would be pretty safe to say the market for these obscure firearms is are fighter in the Continental US in the civilian market than even in these Eastern European Militaries. Take the Ukraine for example, sure they procured some tavors but in reality does it even matter that they did ? They bought what 50 of the rifles ? 100 of the rifles ? Those numbers are so small it is insignificant. I have yet to see any video or even a picture of these tavor equipped troops fighting the rebels in the East. Everyone is armed as they would expect with ak74s, SVDs, pkms and whatever surplus Soviet weapon they can find. Heck on VICE there is even a rebel armed with a ppsh 41. All I am saying is just because a military has procured an obscure weapon does not mean its at all likely to be found in that military's hands , the numbers in which they are not only procured but issued is so small its insignificant.

Just because Poland has half a dozen or so scars does not mean its prevalent or likely to be found anywhere. I would even go so far as to say that there are probably more Scars in US homes than there are out in military service in any of those nations you listed. Would you find an obscure weapon in Chenarus maybe but the high unlikeliness warrants it probably take low priority. This is not to mention how jarring a ultra modern obscure weapon would be in the hands of what is supposed to be a starving survivor.

    The LMG/GPMG Thread!

First generation m249s did not have rails. They could always add railess m249s or m240s by saying these were older first generation lmgs issued to reserve units. Give it a shot when you get a chance. ACE mod really does the weapons justice nothing is more fun than playing as insurgency mode with ACE mod and using a pkm to accurately rain rounds on a squad that is 1000m away. Making minor careful corrections for wind and elevation.

    The LMG/GPMG Thread!

Try ace mod where LMGs truly shine due to realistic ballistics + weapon and bipod deploying. Laying down a 8 to 10 shot accurate burst at a target 600m away is very doable.
  5. Well that appears to be a bolt action .22lr.
  6. Sounds good. A varied selection of guns in .22lr only helps the game.

    Mauser C96

With 5.45 being added, .30-06 being very likely, and 7.62x54r being fixed in the future I don't think the devs are as reluctant to add a new caliber into the game.

    Smaller, more "realistic" muzzle flashes?

Yes I agree part of the problem too is the insane amount of smoke that is produced. It is unrealistic and it makes follow up shots problematic. The counter strike approach is good, its realistic and not annoying for follow up shots.
  9. I never lost faith just became concerned with the direction Dayz was taking once it came to light that some aspects of the game were going to be streamlined for the benefit of casual players. Thankfully those steps have been corrected and the game can once again remain a bastion of complexity and depth. I say let the Casuals suffer, they will adapt and then given enough time they will be converted.

I thought the plan was always to have 7.62x54r. I would expect it eventually.

    Allies Victorious!

That is a fair point. Nothing would be more jarring for me than seeing this "starving" post apocalyptic survivor with an ultra rare rifle like a FN scar, Cheytac, m107 or an94. For that very reason I love the new aks74u the model and especially the skin look like they belong in some desolate zombie infested wasteland with little resources. It looks banged up, and abused like something found in a long abandoned military site. Same thing with the upcoming Remington 870 clone. It looks used and abused and completely feels like it belongs in a resource starved land. Brings back memories of that. Although I would imagine the players in Dayz should and would be far less equipped and outfitted compared to the characters in Stalker. The stalker characters volunteered to go into the zone for profit. Meanwhile in dayz the world has ended and everyone is just scraping by the world regressed a few hundred years after a horrible event.

    The 'war on snipers'

Would be nice to one day have to print out our own dope sheets or use a notepad and then have it on our desk for reference and no longer using the 100m easy mode elevation changes in game.

Rejoice! 5.45x39mm is coming to Dayz

Don't forget the ballistics of 5.45 especially out of an rpk. The 5.45 screams out of an RPK at over 3000 fps leading to a very flat trajectory. Given an rpk and an AKM with a drum mag at a distance I would always put my money on the rpk that player would have a far easier time landing accurate bursts.
  14. gibonez

    Allies Victorious!

Why not ? It is 5.45 , it would share the 40mm grenade launcher that is already modeled in the game. It also has a unique 2 round burst. It would also share magazines with the future krinkov and perhaps one day ak74.

I never said it should be easily found. The a91 is a pretty rare rifle only used in specialized units I just thought it was a very unique Russian made rifle that is in 5.56 nato . It could be a Helicopter crash spawn for say the mi8 helicopters that currently only spawn smgs. The weapon, its ammo would all be heli only loot.
  16. Far to close to the coast no ? It seems moving the Balota base to the far north west corner was done to push people to migrate in land. Thus making it harder to find military loot as soon as you spawn.

I was thinking if they do indeed change the ak 101 into a ak 74m there would only be 1 weapon in 5.56 nato. Which leads me to think what would be another good weapon system in 5.56 that fits the setting but has unique properties. How about a a-91 really compact russian 5.56 nato rifle issued to specialized anti terror and special forces units in russia hence making it a rare helicopter spawn.

    The 'war on snipers'

When I say an angular form of elevation adjustment for scopes I only mean it if the scope supports it in real life. Let me explain. You take a Pu scope for example currently in game it only allows for elevation adjustment with a mosin nagant for up to 300m. In real life it allows for adjustments for up to 1300m when you set it at 13. This is of course supposed to match up for 7.62x54r out of a mosin nagant so the elevation adjustments should absolutely not be correct for the sks. Scopes that have 100m increments for elevation adjustment is quite common in some of the Russian optics because they were specifically made for certain weapon systems and they already have a round trajectory , muzzle velocity and weapon system there for reference. Another such example of this would be the SVDs scope that allows for elevation adjustment for up to 1000m on an SVD thus it would not match up or be accurate for an akm. However with all modern western scopes the rifles cannot be matched to a specific weapon system, or caliber and are built to function on a wide array of barrel lengths and calibers. For this reason most long range optics come with a universal form of elevation adjustment in the form of minutes of angle or Mil radians. These clicks just correspond to a predetermined angle that the scope is adjusting for. M-rad and MOA are the two forms of elevation adjustment they both are angular forms of measurement one is simply metric and one is imperial So take a .308 for instance it would take roughly 12 mils of elevation adjustment or 42 moa to reach 1000 yards. Hopefully this makes sense. Now let me explain how this would help the game by making the devs job easier and by allowing for more optics to be added to the game without fine tuning each one. In real life a large variety of scopes are sold you can buy a cheap scope for 300 dollars or an expensive scope for over 4k dollars. What separates them is often times glass quality and maximum elevation adjustment. What this means is that often times a 3k dollar scopes internals will allow for the elevation adjustment of much higher values than a cheapo 300 dollar scope meant for hunting. So say something like a nightforce beast is added a 4k dollar long range scope it allows for 120 moa adjustment or roughly 34 mils of elevation travel. Those 120 minutes of elevation could mean 1200+ yards for a .308 or 500m for a .22lr. The devs would not have to custom tune the trajectories for each and every rifle they can just allow the scope to adjust to an angle like scopes do in real life then have the players have a piece of paper next to them in real life with the trajectories and angles that correspond to the range they wish to hit. So say the person above me needs to hit something at 500 yards away for his particular rifle he needs to adjust 7.2 minutes on his turret. The benefits of such a system is less work on the devs, a more in depth and complex long range shooting mechanic and most importantly more possible precision for the player. If the player is skilled enough and needs to make a shot that is exactly 733 m away with a very steep angle then if that player can do some simple math he should be able to nail that hit every time. Such a system would require that players learn to shoot at long range something that is badly needed seeing how insanely easy it is to shoot at long range in vanilla arma and dayz.

    Allies Victorious!

Bingo. It also sets a precedent and means in the future the devs would be more inclined to add another caliber to the game if it is needed without having to worry about confusing or trying to simplify the game for casuals. Adding 5.45 also has great gameplay implications as it could be used as the general military building spawn caliber while 5.56 can remain a helicopter only spawn atleast for the time being unless they decide to add 5.56 - .223 civilian rifles.

Yea the civilian weapons in the game add alot to the gameplay imo. The pump shotgun I am hoping is not paintable and retains that wonderful rustic look. The skin and model on it is also quite nice looking.

Yes , yes , yes . The rpk would be a fantastic addition especially if weapon resting and bipods can attach to objects reducing the recoil on the weapons and increasing stability. Hopefully a weight and stamina system is added too so having an rpk has some negatives too.

    The 'war on snipers'

Simulating the transonic dispersion would not really make it difficult to snipe it would just more realistically limit the guns in the game to their real life effective ranges. I suppose they could simulate this by somehow having the bullets dispersion increase dramatically once the round goes transonic if the particular round is known to be really unstable when going transonic. Some rounds are built to be very stable once they go transonic and thus their dispersion is not really a factor when they slow down. As for the elevation system my main problem with the current implementation is that the player is stuck to whatever predetermined variables the devs have decided on for a particular weapon and caliber. With angular elevation adjustments not only would the player have more control and be able to dial in precise adjustments, the differences between rifle calibers would be very apparent. I would also imagine the devs workload would be far easier with such a system as they would not have to manually adjust the distances for each weapon and instead the scopes max elevation adjustment would do all the work. The biggest and most important bonus of such as system however would be the raised skill cap that would be required. no longer would a 12 year old pick up a scoped weapon and be able to hit people at 1000m with ease. It would make sniping hard , challenging but above all fun.
  24. Sounds good to me. Hopefully it promotes people to actually explore and move throughout the map.
