Define short range. Making 300-400m shots with the sporter is possible and a LRS and bipod would help not saying its easy but even at those ranges the .22lr has enough power to penetrate a motorcycle helmet and pierce a skull all the way through.

The only large scale "military" weapon I would like to see in the game is honestly a 60mm mortar. Heavy , complicated to use, limited range of about 3900m. The only way such a weapon would work in game however is if its recreated exactly how the real world equivalent is. No easy indirect fire, no artillery computer where you point and click on a map. Even then they would be heavy so transporting them around would be impossible if a stamina and weight is added. The mortar would work well for base defense and perhaps base assault in the late stages of development. But potentially the biggest addition such a thing would bring forth is a source of munitions for IEDS. Tanks, APCs, IFV , Helicopters, gunships, jets all would be too much imo

Loot spawns - anyone else frustrated?

Once private hives happen that are not connected to the hive I see no problem with this. -
Loot spawns - anyone else frustrated?

Not when high loot directly affects those who want a true survival game. There is a certain point where extreme loot just turns dayz into wasteland. -

I never said it would be unusual. It would be quite the opposite the HP is one of the most prolific semi auto pistols of the 20th century. -
I did and I remember that patch fondly. People briefly played nice just for the heck of it. Then once the patch reverted they went back to pvp. Had that patch stayed they would have reverted to pvp given enough time.

Loot spawns - anyone else frustrated?
gibonez replied to johnny0964 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Honestly it still feels extremely high in loot. More importantly food needs to be made far harder to find canned food in particular should be really rare forcing people to use the environment for food. Then you are shit out of luck ? The game should not be built with the casual gamer in mind or with a specific time table of game time. The game should be brutal for everyone regardless of how much time they are willing to or can put in. -
New NE airstrip civilian Terminal. Bye ATC tower?
gibonez replied to chompster's topic in General Discussion
Yea I always thought that would be a fantastic approach to the loot system. Having certain cities be known to spawn certain items forcing people to migrate if they need a particular object. As for Zelo I think it is still far too close to the shore thus an easy way to gear up once the spawns are further spread out. It would fit right in between novy and stary however migrating people north. -

Good move there are far too many military spawns as it is. Zelo could use a good deletion too or at the very least moved further north and to the center of the map to promote map migration. -
no amount of zombies or difficulty will make people work together. People need to realize that a large chunk of the community does not care about meeting people or roleplaying they just want to kill other players.

Should There Be a Respawn Button ( Discussion )
gibonez replied to pookie's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely not. With a re-spawn button so many of the gameplay mechanics are just thrown right out the window. -
That's how most guns in the world are Basic. Basic is not necessarily bad Irons don't break. Irons are cheap, and irons work. There is a reason why most weapons in the world have irons. If the world truly did end the chances of encountering 4x 1500+ dollar scopes for your weapons would be extremely rare. Sure you can find them in current conflicts but that is because of organized entities supplying them.

Then they should cause shock damage. Bleeding profusely like you do in game from punches to what usually appears to be the body is silly. At the same time bleeding needs to be far more dangerous for gunshot wounds and real punctures. A simple rag should not stop bleeding.

My only hesitation to full blown modularity is due to the adverse effects it will have on gameplay. Mass modularity for the sake of modularity only serves to blend the roles of the guns in the game further something that is bad for gameplay. Take the AKM and the M4 for instance due to drum mags being in the game for these two guns there is pretty much zero reason to include an rpk74 or any lmg or gpmg aside from pure aesthetics. Sure you might argue that later on weapon accessories will be made rarer the instances of fully kitted out m4s and akms will be severely diminished but we all know nothing is ever, ever rare in dayz and people will find a way to loot farm, or dupe or whatever other trickery they do to make these weapons abundant. Limited modularity on 90 percent of the weapons is a huge benefit for gameplay as it would open up opportunities for including unique set of weapons in the game valued not only for their aesthetics but also because of the specific role they might play. The AUG a1 is one such weapon. It might be sought after not because it is a bullpup but because of the unique scope that it comes equipped with. The sig 550 might be another such example sought after because of the built in Bipod with the negatives of not being able to readily take any of the rail mounted optics. This approach to the weapons would on the other hand also put a much higher value on the extremely modular weapons like the m4 and make them highly sought after as they should. If the game treats the weapons with realism in mind when it comes to their handling , accuracy and damage values the only tangible value that puts one weapon ahead of another is how modular it is. Modularity should be king in Stand Alone but only on a select few weapons the majority of the weapons should all fit into niches.

On that aspect yes I agree a zombie essentially punching you should not break or ruin any items nor should it cause you to bleed.
-
It's completely fine how it is now. If anything we need more ways for items to degrade.
-
The elevation adjustments on the pu scope are not universal however. They go up to 1300m and have to have follow some kind of ballistic trajectory. I assumed this was 7.62x54r
-
The laziness needs to be discouraged them. One server, one character. Get rid of the silly magical characters across all servers. I don't care about all the silly hypotheticals people throw out like what if the servers full what if I want to play with friends etc. One character per server solves nearly all of the games biggest flaws.

The War on Wilderness - Reclaiming Myshkino
gibonez replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I like this. Even with it removed there are still way too many military spawn loot locations around the map. -

Browning hi power would be pretty fantastic. Let's see if they model in the grip bite. #1 reason I like the idea of the hi power is because of how iconic it is. The hi power sits next to the m1911 in terms of how influential the pistol was in history. -
Realistic bullet wounds and gore are part of that atmosphere . The game currently feels a bit comical and too family friendly with the lack of blood decals or any sort of gore. I mean even console shooters have more gore and blood than dayz a game that is supposed to be intended for mature audiences.

Correct. The problem with mosins is not only time the problem is they were never built for accuracy instead built for reliability. The in game mosin is far too accurate, it should be a 4 to 5 moa gun.
-
That is only due to the super broken damage mechanics in game. Take a .22lr to the chest and you will not be sprinting anywhere, you internals will be filling with blood, and after a few painful hours you will die.

Somethings cannot be simulated in game some things like sight alignment, trigger pull check weld and many others. What should happen is the game should simulate what it can in order to add some depth and difficulty to long range shooting. Even one single addition would have a monumental impact on sniping and player behavior. Getting rid of the elevation adjustment system of 100m would have a huge huge impact on gameplay. Something as simple as removing the easy mode 100m increments and then forcing people to either generate their own range cards or learn hold overs would discourage 9/10 snipers from even attempting a shot from 300 yards or more. The beauty of such a system is that it does not punish the competent player it in fact gives him much more control a player with a mil/moa system would be able to hit those precise shots at any range no longer held back by the generalized elevation system. This tiny simple addition would fundamentally change the game for the better. For such a system to work Russian made scopes that generalize ranges like the pso scope should be calibrated for 7.62x54r out of a svd thus the elevation adjustments when mounted on a akm or ak 101 are completely off. The pu scope on the sks should they keep it should also be completely off. Due to the nature of the game that is still being developed they can add this simple feature and test it out. Not test out the players reactions to it but instead test out player behavior, how people are dying around the map and most importantly how efficient players are with sniper rifles. What should happen is people will ignore scoped rifles accross the board due to not willing to learn how to use them and would instead just pvp to their hearts content from close range. While at the same time those that learn and use the scoped weapons should see their accuracy increase due to the added control of the weapons.

What about mirroring outside coms in game ? Anytime you talk on your mic the voice is pushed in game thus promoting in game talk indirectly.
