One thing that Dayz should absolutely copy is the Fog of war system. Not having the zombies or players render when you can't see them creates so much tension and makes the game scary.

No need for a cover system a simple civilian styled stance system would work.

To be fair the ballistics in Vanilla arma 3 arent that good either. The community has largely fixed it through modding this mod in particular is the most impressive. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?181324-Advanced-Ballistics-%28WIP%29 good luck hitting things past 400 m with that mod :)

Here is what I got using applied ballistics , a mosin nagant 91/30 , and czech mil surplus 7.62x54r coming out the barrel at 2750. So I would have ran out of internal scope elevation travel around the 1500 yards so 1371.6 m. Above is using applied ballistics Btw.

Hmmmm ok one thing immediately struck me as odd. The amount of internal elevation on that optic is insane. Add a 20-30 moa rail and god daam you got a nifty scope for extreme long range. With the elevation adjustments alone if they went for a mil turret system a quick ballistic program shows that the mosin would be able to lob 147 grain light ball with a muzzle velocity of 2750 out to about 1500-1600m with the elevation maxed out on the scope. However a 123 grain m27 coming out of a cz 527 at 2350 would only reach out to 1000m with the elevation all the way. Super high end scope.

What about scouting ahead. Being able to see players from 2km or more would be fairly valuable for avoiding trouble . Besides hopefully when the gunplay mechanics are more refined and shooting is realistic 1000m shots would be on the rare side of things.

Pretty much. Not only that but the draw distance seems to have been a bit nerfed from Arma 2 in dayz and arma 3. In Arma 2 I remember playing ace mod and being able to see out to 5km out with players being visible at 2500m + Vehicles visible at 3000m+ and bases visible out past 5km. Problem lies with the object and character render distance.

Yes dayz needs to become barbie dress up. I can already imagine the vitriol the dayz community would spew if they added silly masks like this though. I remember how mad they were at the pay day masks and how much they wanted them removed.

It's going to be a good day when the central economy is in and its impossible to predict how and when things spawn maybe hopefully ending these threads once and for all. Any threads asking where something spawns will be met with "only bohemia knows"

Don't be too sure about that. Each and every one of them could have an easy solution. FOV = Require a restart between changes of the FOV Gamma = Same 3rd person = Reposition the camera to make it nearly impossible to see over cover. They would be "fixed "

I am hoping the lack of an auto run key is because fatigue and stamina will allow you to over exert yourself and die from pushing your character too hard. -
I have always suspected the bullet penetration was close to what is possible in Arma 2 so pretty much little to no terminal ballistics. Arma 3 is light years ahead when it comes to this but then again Arma 3 is a completed product and dayz is not so who knows how this will change.

Best part of rust that has so many implications to not only combat logging but player interaction. In rust for example always being in game leads to people being very careful as to who they piss off in game. Doing wrong by a group or person could lead to his homestead and character being killed and raided . It's a great idea that is masterfully done in Rust, it fixes combat logging, would eliminate server hopping and would improve the game tenfold while pushing realism forward.

Are you suggesting a aiming stance like this ? Where you arent completely lined up but have the weapon ready and can hit at close ranges ?

Wouldn't mind a non internally suppressed ruger pistol. A regular ruger pistol with a bull barrel would fit right in the games aesthetic not to mention it would share commonality with the magazines of a gun already in the game. Would obviously be a common civilian spawn. -
So servers can control what players see in certain graphical settings ? Awesome this hopefully leads to people not turning down their settings in order to gain an edge.

Yea in the US I have never seen a store stock anything other than, rocksalt, buckshot, birdshot and slugs. Yet they don't. Those exotic shotgun shells are nothing more than novelty items that heck you can't find anywhere in a Gun nut country like the US I would imagine Chenarus a Rural Eastern European nation would have even less chances of finding these rounds. The only shotgun shells that would make sense to add are Bird shot, rocksalt, buckshot and slugs.

2000 is not an extreme number. 2000 is a nice number as it would create value and rarity.
