The stances in Arma 3 are overdone. Even soldiers and military trained people don't look as ridiculous as the stances in arma 3. When I mean civilized stances I am talking about stances that you would encounter with an untrained civilian. Also what survival skills that are so above what a nromal person can do are you talking about ? Opening a can of food ? sharpening a knife ? skinning an animal ? Any normal joe would do that. The devs have stated before in the past that these are not military trained personnel and that they purposely want them to not only look like civilians but animate like them too. These aren't 3 gun competitors, these aren't veterans, these aren't even police trained civies. They are ordinary people stuck in a crummy situation. Regardless of whether they can mimic stances that they probably have absolutely no clue or not the characters should move and look like Civilians and the functionality of Arma 3s stances could be duplicated in Dayz with a civilian aesthetic.

Entire game needs to be slowed down substancially imo. Movement speed Lack of animation and ability to run while in your inventory insane speed of mounting optics and accesories speed of eating speed of drinking everything is far too instant.
-
What about what I proposed a while ago of shooting stances like arma 3 but with civilian asthetics and not as many variations. None of the silly mall ninja half crouches or urban prone that I doubt anyone even uses. Instead a vastly simplified stance system that looks like a regular civilian shooting , sitting down etc.

Nothing wrong with the FOV slider. Problem is it should require a restart anytime you change it to avoid being exploited.

DayZ Dev hints at possible DX 12 Engine, are you all willing to wait? I know I am

W10 will be free for a year for anyone with windows 7 or windows 8 so thats not a problem. -
Good compromise would just be a readjusted 3pp camera + fog of war system. Everyone wins.
-
There is no way to add a russian side mount scope on the sporter. That would be silly.
-
Very vague comments on looking into the perspective from what I recall. It could mean anything like a fog of war type implementation like the video above or a simple camera reposition that severely hinders trying to peek over cover.
-
They have discussed adjusting 3pp however. That is where hopefully they fix it so that it can't be abused like it is currently.

Survivor Games were a perfect example of run speed too fast/state of pvp

Yes absolutely but at the same time they need to make elevation a far more daunting task there simply should be some hills that are impossible to elevate dead right. Currently in dayz you can climb insanely steep hills almost like you have magnetic shoes on. feels just like that. -

As a whole the Stamina mechanics still need work I will agree on that. The recovery rate alone is insane you can go from fully fatigued to fresh in a manner of seconds by proning thats insanely bad. What I am saying is sure it might feel bad but the game will play good. Who cares how the game feels if the gameplay is better for it. Stamina has already proved that with its modest nudges. As a whole slowing the game down would do a whole lot of good. That being said Sprint should really truly be an all out sprint and it should have a great utility but like turbo in games it should be a limited use thing that has harsh penalties to abusing it. I believe the secret to making this all work is for the devs to find it enjoyable to travel at a slower speed while at the same time getting people slowly adjusted to an every decreasing movement speed. -
Well of course there are some but I mean proportionally there isn't a whole lot of them compared to other weapons systems. It is a relatively niche weapons platform with limited utility. All I am saying is the likely hood of finding one in Chenarus would not be high lower when you consider it is nowhere near as bountiful as other weapons that themselves are already rare to find in Chenarus.
-
Making them super rare to the point where it would make sense would be a collosal waste of time and resources. It would be some insignificant number like 50 across all servers and ammo would be impossible to find.

Don't sprint then. The main form of travel in Dayz should be a faster walk with jogging being a close second. Sprinting should rarely be used but unfortunately hold shift is the main form of transportation in many peoples eyes within Arma. They have kinda made changes to stop that though with the overheating mechanics and hopefully a brutal stamina system. Slowing the overall pace of dayz is a good thing not a bad thing. The game has a gotta go fast approach that is bad. -
Thankfully it looks like they are against adding any .50 cals especially obscure m107s. 10k dollar .50 cal sniper rifles would not make any sense in Chenarus atleast not in any meaningful quantities. Even within the US military the number of m107s is not significant at all.

I would love for Dayz to be brave and adopt a super realistic movement system. Acceleration and momentum should be a huge thing. So for instance you move forward at a slow speed for a split second before you jog at full speed, sprint is extremely limited and really tires you, fatigue lasts longer than a few seconds. When running and sprinting you have momentum it takes a bit of time to slow down. You can't run to the side, strafing is not a thing in real life. Walking backwards is about 25 percent of the speed of running forward. When prone you cant spin on your belly , you have to readjust your body position. -
I thought this was already a thing ? I thought police loot was only in police stations meanwhile military bases had military loot. The only reason loot has been sorta mixed across different loot locations was due to lack of variety but as time goes on an variety increases there will be a separation between military , police, and civilian loot.
-
Eventually they are going to have to look at the camera. I would not be surprised if they eventually just do an in engine fog of war system that does not render what you can't in 3pp. If it works anything like Project Zomboid it will make the entire game far more nerve racking. On the upside it might bring some performance bonuses due to not having to render objects you can't see.
-
The 5km number is just something I threw out because that is the view distance that is possible in Arma 2 and Arma 3. Any view distance shorter than that would be a monumental downgrade. Player render distance should be a slider option if it is so detrimental to performance. Those with good rigs can crank it up, those with potatoes can keep it low. Performance should not be bad either way if they merely render what your characters eyes can see. A fog of war system would not only be good for gameplay but might help performance also.
-
Agreed. Military clothing should only spawn in heli loot it should be extremely rare.
-
What do you think will be the lifeblood of this game?
gibonez replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
Realism. There will be many Dayz clones many of them will do things much better than Dayz however the only thing that will separate dayz from the clones and keep people coming back is how true it stays to realism and how brutal it is as a result. Realism will be the only thing that separates it from the clones. -
Player render distance should absolutely be atleast 5km. This goes for vehicles also. Scouting and looking in advance should be a very powerful took in dayz.
-
ooo Ic I can understand that. It does at time feel a bit stiff but overall its a great feature even with some of its mishaps.
-
I initially was bad at using it. Practice with it and it becomes second nation. I have gotten so good at the stances that I can seemlessly transition to any stance. For dayz's purposes it does not need a highly elaborate stance sysem just more options other than the 3 current stances and that simplicity should make its use better for dayz.
