Weapons need to spawn with atleast 1 magazine in them.
gibonez replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
You would probably die before finding any magazines, if anything that would simply encourage server hopping. As for your second comment I am for anything and everything that is realistic and is authentic. If you were to find a scar in a persons house or in an armory you bet your ass off there would be magazines for it nearby if not right next to it. Not to mention how cluttered the game would be when they add dozens of new weapons. Finding magazines for tons of different weapons would be a mess. -

Even now this may not be a total problem but imagine in the future once the game is feature and content complete. Do we really want to look for the proprietary magazines for the potential dozens upon dozens of firearms added in the game ? Does that not seem like a waste of loot spots. Also for katana say they do add one of those fancy smangshy guns you like the scar for instance, it would ideally have an ultra ultra rare loot chance right. What good would that scar be when the magazines for that weapon are also ultra ultra rare ensuring that the chances of ever finding the weapon + magazines for said weapon are astronomically impossible. I still think the best solution is to eliminate magazines as a loot completely and spawn the weapons with 2 or more empty magazines. Stream lines the process more. -

Sure in theory but what actually happens is modern weapons such as the m4 are being dropped and ignored in favor of 100 year old rifles such as the mosin and revolver simply due to their internal "magazines" -

It is the only logical thing to do. Right in in game for instance I just dropped an m4 with magpul parts and an acog for a blaze 95 why you might ask ? simply because the b95 can be used right away and has a 2 round capacity. I am not asking they include fully loaded weapons in the loot pool What I am asking is doesn't it make sense to remove magazines completely as a loot item and have them spawn within the same spawn as the main weapon itself. I personally store my weapons with the magazines for the weapons right there with them not loaded but in close vicinity. Looting a house that has a pistol this is what I would expect hidden in a desk or in a cabinet. not a handgun alone with no magazines to be found anywhere. -

Think of how you store your weapons or where weapons are stored ? Usually weapons are stored near the magazines for that weapon. the current implementation makes little to no sense. Find an empty sporter in a house then find sporter magazines in tents at a military base ? how does that make any sense. More importantly this mechanic makes alot of the weapons pretty useless the sporter in particular a weapon that should be more popular due to the sheer availability of its ammo is almost never used mainly because of the scarcity of its magazines. Notice I did not mention the m4 that is mainly because magazines always spawn where m4s usually spawn, usually an m4 is found in a military spawn and magazines for the weapon are usually close by. -
Goodbye i suppose. You do make some fair points and I do think Dayz will be overshadowed by other games but so long as Dayz focuses on what made it popular , realism it should be fine.

I am simply addressing his problem with sniping and showing him how adding thermals is not the solution. Showing him how game mechanics fix his problem while not introducing another one like thermals would.
-
h1z1 is fixing that issue. good if so this puts pressure on dayz to do the same. This has long been a problem and once its addressed the game play will improve hugely.
-
He means well. He wishes to fix how easy sniping is and how viable it is but the problem is his solution only creates more problems. Instead he should focus on the root cause of sniping being the most viable form of gameplay and those reasons are 1. Gunplay in stand alone sucks so much compared to the mod due to the lack of mil sim aspects and consistency 2. Sniping is too easy and requires depth and complexity.
-
Check the video out when you get a chance it is the solution that the game needs concerning snipers. It is honestly the only solution that will not alienate anyone and at the same time reward skill and knowledge.
-
It is ACE mod sniping. 1. It adds wind so you need to correct for it on your turrets. You can adjust by minutes of angle or mrads. 2. It no longer has elevation adjustments of 100s of meters. Real life scopes are made to be universal and work on every gun thus they use a universal measuring method to let you adjust your scope. Thus moa and mrad exists. Instead of adjusting to hit a person at 500m by clicking page up 5 times you instead dial your scope to 9 moa or 18 up clicks since you adjust the scope in .5 moa. You also need to reference a chart to see what the right moa adjustments would be on different weapons because each weapons bullet drop is different.
-
Like I said nothing in the game should favor anyone else and thermals create more problems than they solve. I think everyones gripe with sniping is how easy it is and how cheap it is correct ? Wouldn't you want a more complex sniping mechanic to be added instead one that would impress you if a player actually hit you at distances past 300m ? Add that in and sniping wont be a problem promise. Number of snipers would decrease immediately and not only that, when you are killed by one you would be amazed not angry.
-
I really don't see how it does not. Sure initially it would be more of a single person survival game but once people band together I would imagine they would build bases and encampments away from danger. Factions would form on servers and people will pick sides.
-
Where do you people get this ? Why do you assume so ? they could add a million things to do in the game and guess what most of us will continue to shoot on sight why you might ask ? Because we find it fun to grief people and forcing them to start from scratch.

An insight - What is the 'IT' that made DayZ, DayZ and where do we go from here.
gibonez replied to Intactus's topic in General Discussion
The mod was a simulator ,stand alone is a clunky mess with terrible terrible gunplay and arcade mechanics. Funny thing is in the h1z1 video they mentioned that the game is not going to be a twitch shooter and they will be adding mil sim gunplay. I will laugh my ass off if in the end h1z1 becomes more of a simulator than dayz does. -
The only reason why sniping is more viable at the moment is because it is the only way to accurately get a shot on target. Let's face it , gunplay in stand alone is complete and utter shit, the guns feel terrible, the dispersion is game breaking and above all there is no consistency. For these reasons alone sniping is the only reliable way to kill a player at any range over 100m. Any other weapon you pretty much are just rolling dice to see if the magical dayz gods bless you enough to hit the target. That is all that needs to be added to make sniping less viable and at the same time not punishing anyone and rewarding skilled players.
-
Absolutely not. Not in any shape or form both from a lore stand point and a gaming one. #1. Thermal optics and binoculars are huge , heavy and expensive not to mention rare. So finding one would be pretty stupid in eastern europe. #2. They completely ruin gameplay by no longer requiring the player to find their targets and simply making light up.
-
I agree with the op. #1 focus should be fixing the crappy gunplay #2. base building aka giving people something to care about in game. Defending and raiding bases should be a big thing in dayz.
-
Not a problem. This type of kos is no different than any other kos. Only reason this type of kos is more prevalent is because of it secure you can be when looking around walls and above objects while in tpv. Also lol @ thermal sights.

An insight - What is the 'IT' that made DayZ, DayZ and where do we go from here.
gibonez replied to Intactus's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps some sure. However dayz was for many people their first experience at pvp within the huge map of chenarus all using fun realistic mil sim aspects and ballistics. This was the main attraction. -
Good lord what are those some ww2 binos ? They don't produce cheap modern binocs in chenarus ?

gibonez replied to Intactus's topic in General Discussion
I have no doubt in my mind that the "IT" in dayz mod was the mil sim gameplay and the pvp. Zombies and player interaction had 0 effect in seling dayz to people. -
See this is the common misconception. People do not hate 3rd person view, in fact they have come to realize some people cant play any other mode due to motion sickness. what they do hate is being seen or seeing people over and around cover when their character has absolutely no possible way to do this. They also hate how detrimental it is to gameplay and how it results in people in pvp encounters just outwaiting each other out behind the safety of a wall while still having complete and utter situational awareness.
-
No they will not and before anyone keeps asking nothing will stop the kos on mentality. Not bases, not tents, not even reducing guns and ammo. Nothing stop people from having fun by murdering people.
-
Lets not also forget how much smoke the m4 produces almost like it fires black powder.
