Don't get me wrong I also like the idea of an attachment system so long as it sticks to authenticity and realism. Last thing we need is akms with acogs and sigh SKS rifles with pu scopes like we have now. The #1 gripe with the accessory system is how in order to give certain pieces value they destroy the realism by affecting how accurate a gun is. I merely wish that they had a more restrictive aka realistic approach to accessories and that they were more grounded in reality. If a gun has rails then it should take all of the accessories that are easily mounted on rails. If a gun is drilled and tapped it should take modern optics that are mounted with rings. If the game were to go for such a realistic approach the gun accessories would be the following. M4 LRSAcogRDSMagpul stock and handguard - cosmeticbipodRuger 1022 LRSBipodB95 LRSSks BayonetMosin Bayonetpu scope I rather see such a system in place structured around reality instead of artificial balancing and trying to give accessories more value by falsely making them easily compatible with multiple weapons.

Lets balance all the rail with some sweet civilian hunting rifles. Remington 700 .308/7.62x51 - King of customization when it comes to bolt actions the sheer number of parts for this gun is insane. CZ 550 in 30-06 - Beautiful hunting rifle that is bar none amazing quality for the price . Savage model 111/11 Hog hunter in .223/5.56 nato - Great 20 inch bolt action rifle with built in iron sights, it comes suppressor ready. CZ 452 in .22lr - Another .22lr rifle like the ruger 1022 but this one is bolt action and has bar none some of the best accuracy in that caliber. This weapon can attach suppressors. Tikka t3 in .243 Winchester - Some of the best bang for your buck rifles out in the market these quality European bolt guns cannot be beat on their quality. Ruger gunsight scout in .308 - A scout rifle basically a iron sighted rifle in atleast .308 win that can effetively engage targets with iron sights at up to 800m. This model can accept m14 and fn fal magazines. Mossberg MVP in 5.56 - Basically a scout rifle lite same concept as the .308 brother but this rifle is unique in being a bolt action that takes any ar 15 or m16 magazine and it has wonderful from the factory iron sights this rifle is new though so likely hood of it being in Chenarus is slim. Remington model 7 in .22-250 - This rifle is really unique because of the bullet. The .22-250 is one of the if not the fastest commercial rounds out in the market it fires out a gun at speeds of upwards of 4500 fps compare that to a mosin for instance that shoots its bullet at about 2500 fps. The bullet is super fast and it disperses its energy immediately on the target. This would make for a unique mid to long range rifle for hitting targets quickly. Phewww thread has been Derailed. -
How do you guys feel about attachments being used in unrealistic if not very unlikely ways just so the attachment gets more bang for its buck.
-
Yup the attachments seem to play far too much of a role in not only weapon selection but also negatively affects gameplay by making cosmetic accessories have effects on weapons that completely change their characteristics. Sniper mosins, SKS with pu scopes are also other unrealistic bad effects that the overwhelming focus of the attachments system has brought.
-
Because regardless of there being 2 modes to play being able to see over cover and around walls is a problem and problems should be fixed during the games development. This has nothing to do with the games perspective but instead on fixing a critical flaw of the game a flaw that ruins fair play and ruins pvp.
-
The last thing the game needs is progression and rpg elements. That would lean even further from its roots. I still think the only solution is when it comes to the shooting mechanics and gunplay the devs should copy real life as best as humanly possible this way human error is displayed not by magical cones of fire but by the player not learning to fire the gun due to high gun sway, lack of controlling his breathing, not properly aligning his sights and firing once his sights are lined up, by not learning how to keep the gun steady throughout the entire fire cycle, by not supporting the weapon on a surface in order to keep the weapon steady. All these things are subtle additions that could remove and replace the crappy cone of fire seen today.
-
I don't get why they would even attempt to balance anything when they have the ultimate balancing tool this time around. Give the guns their real life stats and then "balance" by controlling the spawn rates, heck the devs now have the ability to control the exact number of a certain item across all servers. balancing weapons by making them unrealistic is terrible.

Of all of the in games guns the m4 is probably the most accurate rifle in real life. Yet in game its the most inaccurate gun :/

with a dynamic spawn system where nearly every square foot of the map that does not contain a building is a potential spawn point you will certainly not suicide till you get a spawn you like. 1. You will spawn in the wilderness more than likely and wont have anywhere to suicide from. 2. It will be too time consuming to suicide for the small chance that you might get a favorable spawn . 3. random spawn will slow down suicide dramatically tot he point people will stop doing it all together and just adapt. With a completely dynamic spawn system suicide for better spawns just wont work no statistical way for a suicide to benefit the player. Not only that but the act of suicide would be far too time consuming for it to be worth it. Thus the map is populated from people trying to get their bearings + traveling on their way to their preffered hotspots.

Why Were Helicopters "Overpowered" In The Vanilla Mod?
gibonez replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I agree mil sim aspects is what made dayz mod so good. That being said everything in the stand alone suggest they are going with a more civilian approach a more realistic approach. While the realistic shooting mechanics do need to return, along with realistic movement speed and some sort of weight system certain things like tanks, jets, and helicopters would feel out of place. -

we will see if they do decide to introduce helicopters into dayz standalone it will open up a whole can of worms of problems. Not to mention it will once again repeat the same gameplay that the mod was better off without. -
How important should vehicles Be in the SA?
gibonez replied to xalienax's topic in General Discussion
Thats a valid wish but say that does happen how are choppers going to get taken out with m4s ? and mosins ? there is no sign of the game putting in any sort of heavy weapons heck the next 2 weapons in the game are a single shot pistol and an akm . -
Always been a fan of location specific loot. Western military gear in one section, eastern mil gear in another. Civilian gear with a city focus on the coastal cities so shotguns, and pistols. Remote villages have more hunting rifles and hunting ammo. though to be truly honest the only way to spread people around is with the spawn method. Only a completely random and dynamic spawn system will get people evenly distributed around the map.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
gibonez replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
True, the only distinguishing change between say a full sized ar 15 and the m4 would probably be the ability to mount hunting and long range optics on the civilian weapon plus a faster muzzle velocity unless that is tied to the ammunition. That being said it could be a fun weapon for civilian loot. -

Didn't they say they were going to bring in a full sized civilian Ar15 ? or was it mid sized ? that could be the SPR in the game that would not lean too heavily on the military spectrum and would fit the same role. Good 20 inch or 24 inch barrel, great velocity out of a 5.56 round. -

Was just replaying fallout 3 with heavy heavy mods and I ran across a m14 in that game. The m14 is what would most likely be encountered when running across an m14. No corny quad rail, no tacticool mall ninja camo pattern but instead its beautiful original wood stock that has some damage from years of abuse. No optics, not rails for optics but instead uses the beautiful and extremely useable iron sights that come packed by default with the M14s that would have been used by the US military in Vietnam and by the Argentinians during the Falklands incident. Truly a gun that fits the setting and would fit along the FN fal and G3 as the games battle rifles. . -
Half as useless. I should say if the MOA accuracy that gews told is indeed correct.

I want a Davy Crockett too.

Side chat was wonderful at times in the mod sure it was not realistic at all and because of it you were plagued with people singing their own rendition of Baby got back across the server. But despite that Side chat brought forth lots of funny and unique gameplay elements. It was used to bait people to certain towns, it was used to taunt or harass the possibilities were endless. Since stand alone is taking a far more realistic approach to the game side chat would make no sense unless it made sense for these players to talk to each other across the map. Easy way to do this is start people off with a PDA or something like the MILO adhoc, wifi communicator. For games purposes it could allow you to chat to people within 1 or 2 square miles near the player. If you dont want chatting you can simply drop it when you spawn this gives players the choice of talking in side chat without being forced to read what is displayed there. It also eliminates the problem of voice over side chat.

Why Were Helicopters "Overpowered" In The Vanilla Mod?

Anyone can find military gear and shoot a gun. Shooting a gun truly requires little to no skill. Flying and especially maintaining a helo would require tons of training and experience. -

Well say they are a random crew of bandits how in heck do they know how to fly let alone maintain a helicopter. That is the single biggest problem I have with helicopters. You cannot have a realistic survival sim yet have the random survivors piloting modern helicopters. -
Obviously not if this thread exists and so many players want it fixed.
-
You do know that vehicles are going to be completely different in stand alone right in order to have such things as upgrades on cars be possible right ? I am pretty sure the devs had mad max armored cars in mind when they made stand alone.

That made sense in the mod due to it basically being arma 2 with zombies. How are people supposed to wage a war or heck why even waging a war be a thing in dayz ? there is a heavy civilian focus and adding helicopters and tanks would counter act that.
