Well glad I haven't encountered one yet. Did anyone survive?

I'm a noob as well and had a similar experience, the main difference being I never saw who killed me.

Well I just recently got this mod and was messing about with the hatchet trying to figure out how to go about equiping it and ended up equiping it and a main weapon at the same time. I later found out I could switch to the hatchet with the F key. The only odd thing was instead of a hatchet I swung my gun. I suppose it is a glitch since you guys are saying it isn't possible and I never got to see if it worked like a hatchet since I ended up getting shot soon after.I had been using an ak 47 I found in the middle of the street if anyone is curious.
