Why do peoples actions need to dictate their appearance?
s4pphire replied to GBTP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no need for ridiculous skins; address the problem at its source instead and create a challenge to survive to encourage teamwork. 'Check skin, if A, shoot; if B, reconsider' does not encourage players to think, or communicate for that matter. If forming groups and alliances would actually provide a benefit (it currently doesn't, in fact it slows you down and cuts your loot in half or less), then players would attempt to approach each other and figure out for themselves who can be trusted and who cannot, leading to significantly more diverse, dynamic and intriguing gameplay. Oh, get rid of the dumb heartbeat mechanic too, it brings spoon-feeding to a new level. -
What do you think is the best sidearm in DayZ? (besides silenced pistols
s4pphire replied to Storm Slider's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
G17 no contest, accurate, high capacity and flashlight is a bonus. -
Do you hide bodies you come across?
s4pphire replied to Owain1122's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I hide every body as long as I'm not at risk. Why? I don't want people to loot themselves whether they use it against me or not. -
ROCKET. Playing with friends question (Standalone)
s4pphire replied to djshauny1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd be happy to see a spawn with party members; as in, fresh spawn. But spawning close to alive party members? No. -
The 12k blood system is unrealistic and stupid. I'm not asking for 4.5k as that isn't perfectly accurate either, but blood level in the 6000-7000 range is significantly more realistic as a start. It's simply terribly unlikely for someone to survive 2-3 pistol rounds to the chest (let alone 10), or even a single 7.62 round. Hell, a 5.56 isn't healed by a simple bandage either. If the developers want to make the game feel authentic, then perhaps adjusting weapon rarity is the way to go rather than taking ballistics out of proportion.

The Importance of the Humanity System in Maintaining a Healthy Player Base
s4pphire replied to Vicco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no need for any further mechanics to prevent KOS, except maybe increasing the difficulty of the survival aspect of the game to encourage people to work together. -
Does DayZ's player killing simulate real life authenticly?
s4pphire replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To a certain extent, maybe. In real-life respawning isn't quite as simple unless you believe in the bearded man in the sky so most people would probably feel more inclined to kill out of need rather than entertainment. -
Many trees/rocky surfaces have larger collision models than their actual model would indicate so shooting right next to a tree trunk will often result in hitting an invisible wall. You can easily confirm this by sitting in a pine tree and shooting outward.

The most common of common trash items won't spawn when you actually need it.

Good hiding spots in Taviana
s4pphire replied to AppleJack100's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No such thing as 'hiding' on Taviana. -
I have a W keypress macro for autorun, I think that says enough.

Been there, done that, still doing it. Confirmed for great fun, especially when a group of ten bad players tries and fails to get you in the end.

Switch it to 'at least I have some ammo for my insert weapon name here and problem solved. Not difficult.

Private vs. Main hive - Your opinion (And hi Inception)
s4pphire replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Due to scripting I stopped playing on official servers almost a year ago now, I consider them to be unplayable. In a perfect world I'd prefer official servers on the same hive, however. -
I have Dayz Shell Shock - anyone else, or am I just a wuss?
s4pphire replied to indalcecio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When I said good gear, I meant things that I use for certain situations only, rangefinders, VSS and so on. When it takes you 4-5 hours of loot-cycling to get one, you think twice about risking it. -

s4pphire replied to indalcecio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I solved that by having two play-styles; the I don't give a fuck play-style where I have random throwaway gear equipped so I can run across open fields, loot cycle and do dumb shit without regrets, and the good stuff is used for PvP where 90% of the time it's brought back home to safety after. Although I don't get that feeling a whole lot anymore since I started playing Origins given how retardedly common gear is and the fact that I have storage boxes filled with everything spread across the entire map, but sadly it's the only mod that doesn't suffer from severe hacking problems. However, after around 200ish kills the only item of value I have lost is a VSS and that was stolen from my house. I guess in the end it just comes down to accepting that gear isn't permanent and there is only so much you can do to protect it, try to enjoy it while you have it and even if you die, it really doesn't take that long to find some quality gear again. -
Would appreciate help from someone (I am a noob)
s4pphire replied to eternalcalm's topic in New Player Discussion
I know you figured it out by now but via DayZ Commander install the latest Arma 2 update as well as the latest DayZ update, then 90% of the servers will appear in white text rather than grey text, meaning they run the same version. -

The number one issue my friends talk about is how the game has turned into kill on sight.
s4pphire replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So it's this thread again. I kill on sight because that's what I enjoy doing, there is no other endgame for me and the PvP is all that matters to me. Once you have played long enough, I'm sure you will be able to relate to the fact that players are the only challenge the game can provide and perhaps even appreciate the more complicated aspects of PvP and how rewarding some experiences are. If it were the other way around, and 9/10 players would be friendly, the game would become extremely boring after a matter of days; what are you going to do, farm gear to kill zombies that don't even require killing? -
Should there be rewards for surviving a long time?
s4pphire replied to RollingLizard1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here I was thinking that surviving 'long enough' is enough of a reward by itself, but I could be mistaken. -
My first experience attempting to be a nice guy.
s4pphire replied to muse9191's topic in New Player Discussion
People are people, the vast majority are dogshit and if you can't deal with that happening to you, you should attempt to kill anything that could be a threat. Other than that? No, not really. Play with friends instead or limit those encounters to the times you have nothing to lose and there will be no regrets. -
In one of my rare helpful moods
s4pphire replied to Fun With Flares's topic in New Player Discussion
A more helpful tip, if you spawn at Krutoy Cap, find the lighthouse, rocks or 'friendly' player to put you out of your misery so you can have another chance at the lottery and hope for a better spawn-point next time around. -
It. has. almost. no. performance. impact. Don't know if I can make it any clearer to you. I'm not asking for 6km view distance, or 8x AA being forced. I am asking for crucial settings that can be game-changing, trees and grass, to be forced at decent quality so that you can actually use a tree to hide and don't die while under the impression that the grass you're sitting in would be visible on the other guy's screen. PS: They did it before with view distance, and hopefully they'll do it again for trees and grass.
-
It doesn't take a 660+ to run the game at decent settings so this poll is completely useless. I've seen the game run perfectly fine on 5850s which cost less than 100 on Ebay as long as it's coupled with a CPU that wasn't harvested from a WWII battlefield. It's really simple; lock the important settings such as grass, trees and player view distance (everything beyond is cosmetic so it's fine as it is at 1000, although slightly higher wouldn't hurt). In most cases this whole low settings crap is merely an excuse to get an advantage.
