The AS50 TWS needs to be DB wiped or not able to be saved to hive.
s4pphire replied to KField86's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I really hate when people use this argument. The whole 'so they have a chance' thing is merely an indirect way of saying 'so I can alt-f4'. You are down from 12000 to 4000 blood, you're bleeding, maybe a broken bone or unconscious, do you really think it makes a significant difference? I didn't think so. -

I agree, I really don't care about other hacked weapons because they are not game-breaking, the AS50 TWS however, is an abomination and it's disgusting that it has become so common. That being said, I resorted to using it until it gets removed. -
No, you won't get banned. At this stage I wouldn't even feel bad for using them either, almost every second sniper runs around with an AS50 TWS so you might as well join the party.

Standalone Price Tags - A Solution To Cheating?
s4pphire posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Assuming that the standalone version of DayZ will have significantly less problems with cheating, but persistent cheaters will still purchase additional copies to circumvent bans, would you be willing to pay a higher price to combat this issue and do you think this method could be helpful? The lowest is set at ~$15 because that is what current assumptions of the price are. -
I'd keep the SVD; you'll come across many DMRs but the SVD is simply rare.

Side chat is just a trolling tool, if you make it part of a high-end item (radio), you'd also limit its use to serious players only, which is exactly how it should be.

Why the hell are you people still playing this goddamn mod?
s4pphire replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When people are willing to put up with the level of bullshit that is currently going on, the game has to be pretty damn decent. The amount of times I've said 'fuck it' and still find myself playing on a daily basis is astonishing. -
Easy solution; ignore vehicles and create backup tents on different servers even if it's frowned upon. I couldn't really give a shit if I lose my gear in a fair situation, but losing gear because of all the bullshit things that are currently happening as well as servers going offline is something I'll try to prevent from happening. At this stage in the game, there really is no reason to simply abuse the tent/server mechanics to hell and back, because frankly, that AS50 TWS won't show your Enfield any mercy. Having vehicles is nice and all, but on most 1.7.2.5 servers all vehicles are up at their original locations and thus finding a bicycle/motorcycle whenever you log on to get around really isn't hard. Hell, I'd go as far as saying that it's preferable considering a car is the last thing you want to be in with all the .50 cals around. What I'm trying to say is, accept the fact that the game is in a sub-optimal state currently and find a way to work around it. Oh and, when you're looking for a regular server to play on, research it. Make sure it has been up for a while, that there aren't any admin complaints about it and so on. Spending an hour to find a proper server beats dealing with hours of bullshit.

Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me
s4pphire replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
While I'll happily kill just about anyone, I can't get myself to betray someone who helped me/didn't shoot me when they had the chance. Just today I killed someone who matched the above criteria and I felt so bad that I tracked him down on his next spawn and gave him some stuff.. -
Good times. Thinking about flying 3-4 hatchet warriors to the island and last man standing gets to live, needs a lot of preparation though, unfortunately.

Why Bandit skins are a terrible idea.
s4pphire replied to RaxUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The character should be defined by the player; there is no need for forced appearances. Add more customization options and that should be sufficient, the rest is up to players to determine. Finding out if a person is friendly or not should be accomplished through analyzing their actions and communication, not because of a towel. -
Close range aiming is screwed up.

The default zeroing is 300 if I'm not mistaken, could have been the cause? -
Should hiding bodies exist in it's current form?
s4pphire replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hiding bodies is fine; it really comes down to what you do with it. I will never hide some random Enfield body unless they did something to piss me off, but server-hopping wookies in Elektro.. I will go out of my way to hide that body even if I have to circle the whole city. -
Becoming the very thing I hated

There is nothing wrong with hoarding vehicles, people bitch about it because they'd like DayZ to be more like GTA. -
Rocket, Please don't. (Dayz on Console).
s4pphire replied to alcatraz968's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Couldn't care less if the PC version remains unaffected by the extreme level of durping down of the game required to suit the new player-base. Then again, adding two extra key-bindings to eat and drink in Left 4 Dead would probably be easier? -
Sometimes, I can't help but love hackers.
s4pphire replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Considering that 90% of people will do what you did, I don't really see a problem. Servers get nuked, trashed and fucked on a daily basis; people looting spawned stuff is the last thing anyone should worry about (as long as the items are actually in the game). -
Why settle for one when you can carry both?

So why is the game fun in its current form?
s4pphire replied to jacket13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, that's a great idea. Let's purge the database completely, so that legit players are back to Makarovs and Enfields, while scripters keep spawning AS50 TSWs. An already wide gap was just tripled. Banning by inventory isn't reliable and won't be implemented, because an inventory check provides no actual proof. -
Possible tent fix need help testing
s4pphire replied to tjG3ftw436's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was referring to those servers that do not correctly save vehicles; there are some, but from what I've seen most servers seem to be affected by the not saving issue. I don't recall the exact bug but it was something along the lines of all servers with an ID above 8000 being affected, if I remember correctly. Don't quote me on that, though. -
I tried a private hive a few days ago, it was pleasantly surprising not hearing .50 cals in Elektro on a server with 40+ people. Depending on how things go in the next few weeks, I could see myself switching to a private hive until standalone is released. The only problem is that about 90% of them are utter trash and finding one of the decent ones will take some effort.

Possible tent fix need help testing
s4pphire replied to tjG3ftw436's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll save you the trouble; when a tent is placed on uneven ground or colliding with objects, such as trees, then the next server restart will trigger the tent to reposition to 'match' the terrain, this causes the storage to be completely reset. This tent is now dead, because only the first save works, yet it will forever remind you that it is there, because no matter how often you pack that tent, no matter how much you abuse it, it will be back. So what I am trying to say is, place the tent on flat ground, away from trees and other shit, fill it up and save it, it will work. As for vehicles, no matter how often you save them they will either revert to the original spawn location or their last location on 1.7.2.4. Saving them will sometimes cause them to reappear on the next restart as a different vehicle in the saved location; how a bicycle can morph into a bus I do not know, but why not. The restart after that will then cause them to despawn. -
I won't even bother explaining this in detail, if you bothered to read before feeling the need to comment, you'd know what I said. So until you actually read the thread, stop putting words in my mouth by saying 'instead'. I never said this is THE solution and I never said this should be done INSTEAD. I merely claimed this is a rather simple thing to implement that would REDUCE the problem.

Yet China would be gone before the Great Wall was constructed if it hadn't been defended over and over again. Moron logic.

Does sniping need a nerf?
s4pphire replied to Slickback (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People seem to love to use the realism card when it comes to .50 cals. While Arma doesn't simulate the outcome accurately, the result is about the same. No, it won't rip your arm off and no, it will not trigger a nuclear explosion either, but you will be on the ground in excruciating pain as you die. Getting hit by a .50 cal in the leg, arm or body will either damage vital organs, cause severe bleeding or rip through bones. Does it really matter if you are on the ground unable to move for a few minutes as you die or receiving the 'you are dead' screen as you get hit? A blood bag, painkillers or bandage won't save you, there are no medevacs so what exactly are you hoping to achieve after getting hit? Alt f4 is the only thing that comes to mind. As for all these shot in the foot/hand arguments, the torso is what people aim for and it's the easiest part of the body to hit, what are the odds of getting hit in the foot or hand? Yes, there are situations in which a hit will barely harm you, but this applies to all weapons in Arma and you have most likely felt the advantage of this yourself by doing full damage to someone who shouldn't have lost more than 200-300 blood, instead of 4000 if the mechanics were indeed 100% realistic. The only thing that needs to be changed in the future is classifying hits more accurately; getting shot in the chest with an assault rifle will not allow you to keep running with 75% health and losing 25% health after being grazed in the leg is extremely excessive.
