Public character finally died, day 164.
s4pphire replied to reuben5150's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Even on whitelisted private hives hacking is rampant; it's just less obvious. You simply move from extreme trolling where the server gets nuked to more subtle ESP hacks and similar, which in the right hands, is equally bad. -
It's fine, it's not supposed to be GTA. I sometimes play on 500+ vehicle servers just to rape with helis, and even there vehicles are 'rare'; people suck at driving/flying them, destroy them or similar, so more vehicles isn't the way to accomplish your goal of actually increasing vehicle density. Players 'control' the amount of vehicles, those who care will hoard and protect them, the rest will destroy them and increasing the vehicle limit won't make a big difference.

Everything bad that happens, happened.
s4pphire replied to boom292's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Would start with a completely clean install, launch Arma + expansion once before installing any mods, updating Arma to the latest version and then installing DayZ through DayZ Commander. If you still get the error after that, I'd try googling the specific error messages to find the solution since the problem is probably related to the Arma download, but for now, corrupted files or a bad install could be the cause and you won't know for sure until you perform a clean install. -
NVG glasses in 1.7.5.1 [warning: spoiler]
s4pphire replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Let's start designing the game around duping then, perhaps we can remove all items and start bitching about people duping beans. I mean, what kind of argument is that, did you even take one minute to think about that before posting? How does that comment contribute anything to this thread? Duping will (hopefully) be fixed in the standalone and until then you're just going to have to deal with it, or play on a private hive where it's a non-issue. -
NVG glasses in 1.7.5.1 [warning: spoiler]
s4pphire replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A .50 cal weighs around 30 pounds; while it isn't light, it isn't as difficult to carry around as people make it out to be. And I repeat, something not being needed is not a valid argument. So you found an extremely rare .50 cal or NVG, enjoy it while you have it, cause you will lose it eventually. -
NVG glasses in 1.7.5.1 [warning: spoiler]
s4pphire replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bullshit, high gamma beats night vision unless there is no moonlight or it rains. Secondly, there is nothing wrong with items that provide a huge advantage (not that this is the case here). AS50s, certain vehicles and larger backpacks that allow weapon swapping provide a huge advantage too, guess what, you are free to obtain all of those like everyone else and enjoy the advantage yourself. -
DayZ Scenario: Would You Kill or Help
s4pphire replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Depends on the first impression I get from the person; terrible grammar, 14 year-old or even a dumb name could mean the guy gets shot in the face. Any use of 'm8' equals instant death. I'll go for the sniper out of personal interest though, unless I have something more important to do. -
Nothing changes, you can still shoot an Enfield in the middle of the Elektro unless you're so dumb that you let yourself get cornered in a single-entrance building/room. Pressing W is not hard. Hell, it makes the game easier, I can camp on a roof and the zombie swarm beneath me protects me from anyone who tries to sneak up. Zombies inside buildings or a swarm guarding a corpse are an annoyance, but hardly make it 'hard'. Learn to press your W key, stop shooting them and be fast with looting, and enjoy looting the entire city in a fraction of the time it took you before.

My theory on why everyone complains so much about DayZ
s4pphire replied to kingflip's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well of course people complain; CoD, WoW and pretty much every other game out there heavily discourage any thought whatsoever and probably caused an IQ drop across the globe. While there are a number of valid complaint threads, the vast majority are related to severe l2p issues. -
Never flip ATV when it is stuck, Script Restriction "40"

ATVs and bridges are archenemies, now you know it. They also happen to be the least reliable vehicle in the game. -
Who Else Thinks 1.7.5.1 Pushes Annoyance and Survival Too Far?
s4pphire replied to Diz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Takes me five minutes to find matches, a knife and a hatchet. You should not get hit once by zombies finding those either, it isn't difficult, simply run through buildings with two entrances or use a single entrance and kite them inside so you can escape. You are doing something wrong, stop blaming the game for your lack of experience and learn to deal with the situation. -
Who Else Thinks 1.7.5.1 Pushes Annoyance and Survival Too Far?
s4pphire replied to Diz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Please, zombies are still a joke. All that really changed is that you have to think twice about shooting an Enfield if you're cornered. Getting an infection from transfusions/water is a minor change too, since antibiotic spawns were drastically increased, it essentially means you have one less inventory slot. So if you're having difficulties with the new patch, I'd imagine you were having difficulties before too and nothing but experience will solve that problem. -
Even that's incorrect; sniping Elektro is one of the most risky things you can possibly do. And even if it weren't risky, you are still comparing the risk of losing a sniper rifle and other mid/high-tier equipment to the risk of dying as a fresh spawn. When I die, Elektro or Cherno is often the first place I go to depending on circumstance, as an experienced player it literally takes five minutes of running through it and leaving with a couple decent weapons and anything else you could possibly need. I have spent countless of hours sniping Elektro and pretty much every other spot on the map, and Elektro is by FAR the riskiest out of all the options and has no potential reward either, which is fine. The truth is, with experience, you learn exactly which areas are open to certain snipe spots and you can very easily loot all of Elektro in complete safety. As for adding additional risks for being a bandit, that is completely unnecessary, simply due to the fact that the risk is already in place. Do you think the bandit isn't at risk awaiting your arrival in Stary for example? Sitting in a tree for an hour waiting for someone to approach is probably just as risky, if not riskier, than going into the place and looting it. In conclusion, if all you want to do is survive, there is zero risk playing this game. Stop pretending that it isn't the case, because sitting in the trees and looting some remote town once a day presents zero challenge or risk for that matter.
-
Because the game is based around both PvE and PvP; removing either would render the game's purpose and enjoyment useless. Looting Stary or NWAF without the threat of PvP would make something thrilling, very boring, and pointless, considering you don't need more than a hatchet to deal with PvE so why bother with military loot anyway? As for killing players, I can't think of any other game that is as intelligent and skillful as DayZ, and killing another player always comes with a risk. A risk that you take with every decision in the game, meaning the key is to know which risks are worth taking and when to walk away. I can honestly say that the only deaths I have ever had that were not caused by cheats/bugs/suicides, were the result of a bad decision or poor play on my part. Even if you get killed by an AS50 in Elektro, it is your own damn fault for allowing it to happen, if you had the patience/dedication/skill/experience to prevent it, you could, and that, is the beauty of this game.
-
The game is unforgiving and unpredictable, it will take a lot of practice and experience. That being said, it is also rather buggy and as you encounter these bugs, you'll learn how to avoid them and work around them. For now, these bugs and other issues are here to stay and you shouldn't expect much to change before the standalone, which is fine. So either accept the mod for what it is and enjoy yourself, or come back once the game is released and reevaluate the situation.

Hero skins have bullet proof vests?!
s4pphire replied to JimmyMeatsock's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Amazing how people cry about this; despite my -700000 humanity I think it's fine. The movement speed bonus won't bring any harm to you, since it's very unlikely they will use it to chase you. And if the low-cal thing is true, that's fine as well because if you're chasing people down with a Makarov then well, I'm sure the guy with the .50 cal on the hill will deal with it. After the sidearm nerf, you really should consider looting that Enfield. -
Only the owner can pack the tent, death removes said ability. Anyone can save a tent. Tents have infinite saves except for version 1.7.2.5 where only the first save works. Saving a tent minutes before a server restart generally works unless it doesn't sync with the hive in time; to be sure, try to save it 10-15 minutes before, at least. If a tent is colliding with any object or isn't placed on perfectly flat ground, the first server restart will trigger an adjustment where the tent is repositioned to match the terrain and this causes all items to be wiped. To be safe, wait for the first restart before putting items in it. Lag can cause save delays and thus placing items in the tent and saving it a few minutes later could be considered an extra precaution.

The Leading Causes of Death in DayZ and Other Interesting Facts
s4pphire replied to PorkNBeans (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're forgetting that for most players the average lifespan is so short, that bandit status is never acquired despite the intentions being there. That, and the bug that causes humanity to load incorrectly after death, requiring a relog so the statistics are far from accurate, although I am unsure whether killing someone whose humanity loaded incorrectly grants a bandit kill or murder. -
I'd really like to see BattlEye move into this direction, as it would most likely be an efficient counter to at least some of the current problems. Not to mention, a global ban should be what the name implies, and I don't think people deserve a second chance in these circumstances. What are your thoughts?

Tents still aren't fucking saving.
s4pphire replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know how many times this must have been mentioned on these forums, yet people still fail to search. If the ground is not flat and the tent collides with ANYTHING, the first restart will trigger it to reposition and adjust to the terrain which causes all contents to be wiped. From there on out, tents save just fine. -
My intention was looking for camps over the edge. I have no intention of denying that, as long as things don't get hoarded there I don't see a problem with that. As for destroying every vehicle, it's a slight exaggeration but lately it does hold truth considering every tent/vehicle I find contains a TWS. It depends what vehicle it is (heli on my home server is an insta-destroy no matter who has it because finding camps becomes ridiculously easy with it) and it depends on the contents. If some random guy has a vehicle next to his tent with some basic stuff, I'll leave it untouched. Camps/vehicles with thermals, .50 cals, ghillies and similar will get instantly destroyed too because the less of those there are on the server, the better. Destroying vehicles is essentially like hiding bodies for me, if the contents are high-end spotting/sniping related I'll get rid of it.
-
Before making assumptions, it might be good to know that I destroy pretty much every vehicle I come across and said heli was stolen and was merely being used to look around the place. If I wanted to hide a vehicle, it wouldn't be in a place that required an hour of running.
-
Sometimes I wish people would spend five minutes thinking before starting threads. Players who accumulated their gear in a legit way will lose hours of progress whereas the other half will script it back in. Now the legit player's gear quality will slowly go up from 2/10 while the scripter's gear is back at 10/10 after approximately 30 seconds. It almost seems as if you're wanting to drop the soap on purpose because the pain brings you pleasure.
-
Does that still work on 1.7.2.6? I tried flying a heli out there and ended up getting thrown out as I crossed 000 aka the edge.

they should make non PVP servers!!
s4pphire replied to PresidentEvil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Want the coords for a tent with 25 meat and 25 water bottles? You can sit in the trees and tab in to eat once an hour, far away from all the PvP.
