  1. I agree. Grass/tree details have to be locked, it's absolutely ridiculous how you have to play on low settings if you want to be competitive. And to those saying it's my own choice to play on low settings; no, I don't, I would essentially forfeit a certain type of terrain to anyone with low settings. Grass has to be visible beyond 50 meters, tree details should be equal from any distance/level of quality and view distance for players has be to be drastically increased. If this makes the game unplayable on your Pentium 4, then I'm sorry to say that perhaps it's time to upgrade it. That works for me.

    50's, L119, or none?

I'd rather keep them, and implement more while making them rarer. However, until duping/scripting is fixed, removal is for the greater good. They aren't overpowered either, they simply fill a role. Let's assume we want to kill someone at NWAF, while you might kill 1/3 people while sniping, you would be almost guaranteed to secure all three kills with a good assault rifle. Camping in a building or tree near the barracks is much safer than camping in one of the snipe spots too as you have no real cover. Now, overpowered for sniping Elektro? Sure, but then again your Makarov and Czech Backpack won't be missed either so there is no reward for it. All in all, once duping/scripting is a thing of the past (standalone probably), I'd rather see the AS50/M107 replaced by bolt-action AM rifles such as the M95.
  3. That's a lot of bangbros in the bangbus.

Need M14 Aim, have M4A3 CCO

M4 is one of the most reliable guns you can come across and is an overall great weapon that is severely underrated. No doubt the M14 is generally better but in terms of all-round usage, you can't go wrong with an M4.
  5. Lag probably delayed the bandage to register in time.
  6. In DayZ Commander, go to install/update and update Arma 2 to the latest version, it's the first one on the list. Then update DayZ to the latest version and after that, filter your server results with 'DayZ only'. Servers with different versions than yours will appear greyed out, while the other ones are white.

Want free stuff? PAY 5 DOLLARS.

To the people blaming servers/admins; they're hardly to blame. Buying donation gear is no different than buying a hack and spawning boxes, sure, it's pretty retarded to ruin a server by offering these donation perks but in the end, the people who buy it are to blame. Either way, easy solution. Plenty of good servers around without donation bullshit. And that's the kind of server you're looking for. You're welcome.

Want free stuff? PAY 5 DOLLARS.

Your own fault for playing on trash servers with ridiculous donation features.

    '' Core community '' ?

Many private hives are rather disgusting in terms of settings; closer to Battlefield than classic DayZ. People will be in for a shock in the standalone.

    Why remove the 50?

While I love the 50 cals myself, their removal is for the greater good of the game. If duping, hacking and ammo exploiting weren't a problem, I would agree, but in the current state, simply removing them seems like a solid approach.

    Crafting Discussion only

I want a method to craft clothing, such as ghillie suits and similar. However, clothing should provide benefits for certain things; meaning you could wear camo/soldier clothing for added protection, a ghillie suit would make you slightly slower/offer less protection while being more camouflaged and coats to protect you against the rain/cold What I'm trying to say is that I want more clothing options that are more accessible and offer more choices by having a bigger impact on certain situations. Right now, ghillie is all you want and everything else is useless as you can sit in the middle of the night during heavy rain, camping, without needing a heatpack for a very long time which is extremely unrealistic. As for extra protection, bulletproof vests should be added or integrated into camo/soldier clothing.

    Favorite DayZ Map?

Chernarus is my favourite because it really fits the DayZ theme perfectly, all in all, I would consider it a very solid map. However, Taviana is more entertaining as there are more points of interest, variations in landscape and generally more places to go to/things to do. So for now I'd have to say Taviana currently has a slight edge over Chernarus for me, but hopefully some slight changes to Chernarus in the standalone will change that. As for the rest of the maps, most of them are definitely amazing but simply lack too many features to make them interesting for me and do not come close to the quality level of Taviana and Chernarus. When you think about it, Taviana is very polished (with a few exceptions of course) and it's rather amazing how its quality level is comparable to Chernarus despite being created by a single person.

Silliest excuse for an Admin Ban.

Getting banned for spawn-killing is ridiculous; not to mention it wasn't even spawn-killing considering they were previously geared and thus being denied looting their gear. If anything, it's a nice gesture not to kill a fresh spawn, not an obligation.
  14. Bad players such as yourself get killed by sniper rifles. Common sense goes a long way: back when I stopped playing on official servers somewhere in September or October, I was at -2 million humanity mostly through sniping, and at least 95% of the them are always the same type of bad players who stand next to windows looting, run through open fields in broad daylight without a care in the world or feel that climbing the rooftop to pick up a Makarov is more important than their life. Long story short, if the majority of your deaths result from sniper rifles, you are most definitely doing something wrong and should instead ask yourself how you can fix your mistakes. PS: It takes four body-shots to kill with Stanag rounds, and are available to some of the best assault rifles in the game. M4/M16 are both extremely reliable weapons with very respectable accuracy, even long range.

Why is the NE Airfield so lame?

And NEAF isn't a bunch of low-grade spawns? In Stary you're guaranteed to at least get an average assault rifle whereas at NEAF you can consider yourself lucky if you find an AK.

    MK12

Not a legit weapon on classic DayZ, but it's available on a bunch of private servers. You might get banned from the server you're playing on if it's not legit. It's a nice weapon, hardly game-breaking like an AS50 TWS is, so if you can live with the chance of getting banned from that particular server, keep it and enjoy it while it lasts.

Why is the NE Airfield so lame?

NE on classic DayZ sucks, and it's not limited to the airfield but the whole section of the map. In terms of points of interests/loot spawns, there is zero reason to visit the NE section which is a shame, because Black Lake, Berezino and NEAF are some of my favorite areas. Assuming I want loot, why the hell would I run for 25-30 minutes, to end up with an AK (if I'm lucky) if I can either spend 5 minutes to get an AK out of Elektro/Cherno or 20-25 minutes to get a proper weapon and a chance of finding a sniper rifle at the barracks or Stary. All northern areas need to offer significantly more to encourage players to actually leave the coast; for example, assault rifles shouldn't be available at the coast and certain areas could have different weapon:ammo spawn rate ratios. For example, you could find an M24 at the barracks but you'd still have to get ammo for it at a different location. Certain hospitals could have different medical supplies; Berezino could spawn blood bags and antibiotics whereas southern hospitals could spawn epinephrine, morphine and bandages.

[GUIDE] Safest Way To Loot NWAF [Quick Route]

No offense but if anything, this is a video demonstrating all the things you shouldn't do. I would be so happy if everyone did this when I'm sniping NWAF. ATC tower? Stay the fuck away from it, ESPECIALLY the ladder. Firestation? Loot the ground floor while not standing still if you must, avoid it if you can. Hangars? Don't even think about going near them if you have anything of value on you, walk around the back if you must. And finally, the barracks, the only place worthy of looting. Approach carefully, check the area while sitting in a tree, repeat a few times as you get closer and once you feel safe, run through while checking if there's anything worthwhile without picking up useless shit you can get elsewhere (no, that Pepsi can ain't worth taking the risk for) and you should be back out less than 20 seconds later.

Considering to play DayZ with a friend

Of course it's worth it. Might be a little painful at the start before you get some experience about the game and learn the map, but playing with friends has so many advantages. This isn't CoD or Battlefield where you can respawn next to your friend 20 seconds later, so expect to spend anywhere between 5-20 minutes to group back up. Occasionally you'll die to bugs, frequently you'll die to experienced players and you'll also die cause you fucked up; if you can deal with that, go right ahead. You will never lose your stuff unless you both die since you can camp the corpse, you have significantly more items at your disposal since you can share supplies etc and most importantly you'll have a huge advantage when it comes to looting as you can feed each other information on incoming/positions.

    What is Your Gaming Setup?

3960X at 4.8 along with two 580s, FPS drops as low as 30-40 in some cases. At 6000x1080 I don't consider it playable since drops go down to 20-30, hopefully the standalone will improve that.

    How are helicopters realistic?

Stop implying it's difficult to pilot a small aircraft in optimal weather conditions in real-life. It isn't. A mentally challenged person has a good shot at landing a small plane in optimal conditions if there's a runway nearby (Chernarus is small and has three). Piloting it appropriately by using navigational instruments without visibility and performing certain maneuvers is difficult, very difficult. Disregarding all the above, most people absolutely suck at flying and still manage to crash whatever they find (including cars, surprisingly), so this topic is pretty useless to begin with but whatever. Once you see people performing C130 crosswind landings at night on a carrier with ease you can start complaining, until then, the removal of auto-hover will be sufficient. Thanks.

    Once again ...

If you don't want to get killed on sight, how about you start being more aware of your surroundings and instead of allowing him to engage you, you can choose to either engage him and force him to drop his weapon or die, or simply avoiding him completely? Yes, there are a lot of situations in which you will be killed on sight but there are a lot of players who will help you too. Stop being naive and expecting everyone to let you live. Damn.
  23. There is no way to tell how successful the standalone will be until it is released; if it sucks, it won't reach numbers close to those of the mod and if it happens to fix the major issues, numbers could skyrocket well beyond those of the mod. Only time will tell.
  24. Obviously it's not nearly as popular as it was summer '12, I quit for almost six months and I am amazed that so many people still play with all the cheating. I don't think most people even realize how bad the situation is on private servers; scripting in general is harmful but players/squads who play seriously and use undetectable/less suspicious hacks, such as map hacks, are significantly worse than thunderdome.
  25. DayZ is great and all, but Chernarus in its current state is flawed in many ways. I don't think the other problems are worth mentioning as that's covered in just about every second topic on these forums. Most importantly, the map is too small. You may disagree, but after almost a year (and those who have actually played Arma), the map is learned and you end up knowing exactly where you are without much trouble. A larger map would keep the feeling of being lost for a much longer time and add a bigger sense of adventure to the game as well as making vehicles less redundant. A larger map with a vastly larger amount of players would add more 'endgame' in the sense of exploration and domination. Currently, If you leave the coast, there are generally two areas which players are funneled into, and those are Stary and NWAF, which renders the rest of the map completely worthless. Chernarus is too simple and player density isn't spread evenly; it lacks points of interest. No one is going to run for an hour to the north-east airstrip for a few military spawns when you can instead run through Elektro and obtain equal gear, even if you happen to die a couple times because of high player density. I want more points of interest such as Black Lake or Devil's Castle, that offer both scenery and reasons to visit them. This is something Taviana partially addresses, it offers significantly more locations that are interesting and rewarding, which in turn balances out the player density. If we take Devil's Castle or Black Lake as an example, they provide no reason to go there more than once to see the area. Cities. Again, way too simple, way too small. Taviana does it right, or at least takes a step in the right direction, Sabina is a great example of what I'd expect a city to look like. Most importantly, Cherno, Elektro and Berezino are all on the coast, this doesn't help balance player densities whatsoever and worsens the situation. The Chernarus atmosphere, environment and design fits the DayZ setting well and I'm quite pleased with that, however, the landscape does become slightly dull after some time because, in my opinion, it is too simple. I'd like to see different environments on a large map to keep the realism in place; introduce mountainous areas that are snowy, lakes of adequate size, and other scenic areas that not only provide nice scenery, but also offer rewards rather than field, treeline, field, treeline. I want vehicles to mean something, to serve a purpose. Right now it's safe to say that a bicycle is probably the best vehicle in the game, the only reliable vehicle in the game and the only vehicle that provides an actual benefit, the rest increase your chances of dying by a huge margin and are often not worth the risk. People complain about hoarding, but fail to realize that the moment you start driving it around, you're going to lose the vehicle. People also love to complain about PvP, again without realizing that currently, there is nothing left to do. There is no reason to work together, and no alternative endgame other than PvP. The worst part, that the map layout/loot distribution is so utterly flawed, that geared players are encouraged to focus on Cherno/Elektro/NWAF/Stary and have zero reasons to ever consider other areas when in search of PvP. This only encourages players to go camp on a hill and wait for the predictable victim to arrive in one of the few locations mentioned earlier, and personally, I don't think that should be encouraged further, because randomly spotting other players while travelling and dealing with the situation accordingly is more interesting, and this is coming from someone who snipes Elektro with a .50 cal on a frequent basis. In short, I'd like Chernarus to be significantly bigger with vastly more scenery spread across the entire map. I don't want the game to consist of loot Elektro/Cherno, move to Stary and NWAF, done.
