  1. I'm interested in learning how to remove certain weapons/objects from a private hive server... for example, removing all weapons with thermal sights, and removing spawns for items commonly used for griefing such as barbed wire, tank traps, etc. I read through this thread here - http://www.tunngle.net/community/topic/83611-dayz-legit-loot-drop-modification/ - that suggests modifying the pbo files, however as I understand it any modifications to this file will require clients to download and replace their own files with the one just for my server, or allow clients to connect with files that have a signature that doesn't match that of the ones on my server, which could lead to some real issues with hackers. Can anyone offer suggestions on how to accomplish what I'm after? Thanks.
  2. Judging by my experience so far with them, under 24 hours ain't gonna happen, its been over that for me. But, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and see if it is up by this evening.
  3. I'm running ARMA 2 97771 and DayZ 1.7.2.6, server says its running ARMA 2 97448 and DayZ 1.7.2.6. Is the Arma 2 difference a problem?
  4. I'm playing on a private hive server, that is running the current DayZ version on the front page. I had no problems spawning in until recently. I logged off about a day ago close to a tree, when I logged in, I was dead. Ok, sucked it up and luckily ran into a friendly player who gave me a ride up the coast where a buddy was able to log on and pick me up. Found my body, got my gear, went on playing, connecting and disconnecting without issue several times. Made sure to log out in a much more open area. Today, I log in, and die again. Again, suck it up, collect some gear, get to a bike I know we left near the coast, go get my gear again. I did some reading about how to cancel this if it works - look for the message that says you died when logging in, if you see it, close the game before it loads you all the way in and you should be able to respawn where you were before. This sort of works - sometimes it took several tries to work. My ALT+F4 has never worked for me in any fullscreen games, so I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL and find arma2ao.exe in the task manager, end process, etc., its a PITA. For some reason, ALT+F4 started working enough that I could trust it when loading in. Well, I logged in, and got the message that I died. ALT+F4... nothing... keep trying several times... nothing... smack it so hard I break the stand that raises the back of my keyboard... still nothing. So, I load in completely, bang, in debug area. I'm not going to spend another hour trying to get my stuff back. The server I play on restarts every 6 hours, and with my luck it will restart before I'm able to get to my body again, making it a waste of time. Sorry for ranting a bit, just extremely frustrated with this bug. Something really needs to be done though, when it happens this often I have no desire to log in and play, because every time I get geared up I die, and either have to spend an hour just to get back to my body only to have it happen again next time I log in.
  5. Quick question, me and some friends would like to host a community server so that it doesn't just end up being us playing around in our own private server. Lets say a hacker comes in, is there any way to roll back to changes made to the database (say an hour, day, etc) to undo any damage that was done by them? Can the database be manually backed up through phpmyadmin and restored and still have everything function as normal? Thanks *edit* I guess after thinking about it, that can't be done with a community server, because there is only one database. On a private hive server, we could do as described above, but not community, correct?
  6. I've been playing DayZ over the past 3 days or so and have both enjoyed it and gotten really frustrated with it. I realize it's in an alpha state, so I'm not going to sit here and make a whine thread. I'm curious as to the reasoning behind using the "hive" model. Other than allowing players to continue playing their game in the event that their "normal" server gets shut down, I don't see any real advantages. It seems to be susceptible to abuse and limits administration, such as the following: a. Players are able to log off in areas where high-value items can be found, such as barracks, and then hop from quiet server to quiet server in hopes of finding nice items without much of a chance of getting killed b. It allows players to set up with extremely powerful equipment in hard-to-find locations on quiet servers, and then log into high-population servers without risking their equipment (due to travel), then go to town killing people c. It prevents server administrators from being able to roll-back changes in the event of a hacker joining the game and causing serious issues such as teleporting everyone to their death With the ability for servers to have private databases (and still be supported by the DayZ community) I see it working out much nicer. Those that want to play on high-population servers can do so without worrying as much about 1 hacker ruining the server for everyone. Those that want to play in quiet, low-population servers can do just that in servers with population caps of 10 players or so that can easily be found on the server browser. I guess I just don't see many advantages to the hive. Now, I will admit that I haven't spent any time looking for private-hive servers. As I understand these servers are out there for people to join, and that may very well solve many of my frustrations. But, that's a topic for another time and place. If the hive model is going to be kept in use, is there much that can be done to stop the abuse/issues currently exist?
