  1. Someone posted this in a topic I made some time ago, but I think it's actually a decent idea. Bolts now take one slot each for crossbows, making the collection of ammo rather tedious and makes the crossbow less used than it could be. Making bolts stack, say, per 5 in a slot or something, could fix this. Just wanted to throw it out there as an idea.

    stackable iron bolts for crossbow

I kid, I kid. Just wanted to use that image at least once before I die.. Sorry, didn't realise. Normally I DO search for stuff on forums. I guess this one makes me human then?
  3. SOH clan are a bunch best avoided. I've encountered them only once and they only enjoy killing other players just for the sake of killing them. Good to know they host NL3.
  4. Just wondering if the winchester is still more silent than the M1911 or Mackarov. I'm thinking of picking one up as a spare silent weapon to kill animals for food.
  5. +1 from me too. this sounds quite balanced actually. I don't really think the need for finite matches and a lighter is in order though. It's just complicating a system that is quite ok already.
  6. LeYuno (DayZ)

Is the winchester in 1.5.8 still as silent?

what's the difference between pellets and normal slugs? Where can I find a weapons database for this mod? would really help actually.
  7. and to think that last friday only 67.000 were listed on the front page. The mod really is on a roll! I hope the backend server can still keep up though. it was hard enough trying to join a server last weekend.

    Respawn and Die

I can confirm this. I had a "fresh" character spawning with 10852,68 blood and 27 zombie kills on the counter. something is wrong! I had been playing for a while, collecting stuff like flashlight, matches, wood, beans to get my health back up, had a decent weapon etc.. and then the server crashed. Upon reconnecting I had nothing left, standard equipment, and yet another value in the kills and blood segment.

    nearing 90.000 registered unique players

yes, it is. I wasn't the typical zombie fan, but I loved the walking dead series and I just had to try it after reading how intense this game was. Now I'm hooked, and I think I'll be sticking around for some time to come!

How do you survive as a lone wolf?

the general rule is, don't shoot unless you really have to and preferably when you are sure to have the option to go inside somewhere, and have enough bullets to possibly kill up to 30 zeds (zombies) that were "activated" after your shooting. also, the lee enfield rifle has a far greater noise radius than the other weapons. using that will certainly engulf you with zeds. most players tend to leave that weapon when they come across it. shame though, one less option.

How do you survive as a lone wolf?

Lone wolf tips *never stay in the same position for too long *try to exit a server on a secure location (preferably prone near a dense bush in the forest away from towns) *don't make noise when close to zombies and go prone if you get within 10m. *if they DO notice you and come after you try to get in a house with only one entrance, they will walk through it and you'll be able to pick them off. *allways take headshots at zombies unless you can't accurately shoot (with e.g. the crossbow) since headshot is one shot kill *don't stay on the coast, head inland *be patient. stay on the edge of a town for a few minutes before going in, try to spot the number of zeds you're dealing with and what types. *get a bigger back pack. If you do, don't forget to "loot" your old one and fill the new one with the stuff you had in there *stay away from other humans *if you see humans and they didn't spot you, prone and stay still. Chances are they will never see you. *when in lootable places look for food and drinks. even if your pack is full, consume the food and drinks you find so your "counter" is reset. *when you find a flashlight and want to equip it, drop your handgun instead of switching it to your backpack. There's a chance it will disappear (had it happen to me). drop it, equip flashlight, pick up handgun and put directly in back pack. *note down how many slots each item takes in your back pack. e.g. firewood is 2 slots. some items (compass, toolbox, matches.. are put in separate slots at the bottom of your inventory, binoculars go on the top) *use forest edges to approach towns more safely *stop from time to time when running in the woods and look around *disable music ingame and learn to listen for environmental sounds that give away zeds and humans in the vincinity *try go get hunting gear as fast as possible (knife, matches, wood) so you can restock on the blood which you WILL lose at some point in your travels *use the chat to your advantage - learn player positions, ask indirect questions to know if there are bandits near your goal or current position *NEVER use ingame voip. It attracts zeds since last patch so be aware. Delete the push to talk button in your controls if you don't trust yourself with it. *take your time to learn the inventory and how it works. when you need a bandage or panic fix fast you won't lose the time *learn what does what in the game. Morphine fixes broken bones, painkillers remove the shakes after injury, eating meat/beans restocks on blood, dropping below 40 tempval will make you sick etc. *be aware that trying to loot a stash/dead person while holding your handgun WILL put your player in a kneeled position which may reveal you to zeds nearby. *zeds sometimes hold stuff when killed. an icon showing a rifle with a circular arrow arround it indicates loot present. an icon showing a rifle with ammo clips means no loot
  13. I don't really understand the problem with firewood. I've entered 6 or so buildings yesterday, and came across no less than 4 wood items in the process. They are just there, with the other loot. I'm actually finding it harder to come by matches than I do coming by firewood.

    DayZ Stories

Hey guys, this is the first post I've written in a stories thread. The situation is simple, I'm on my third life ever, and I'm three days in, barely hanging on to my fingernails trying to stay alive. Everything went so well, until this situation presented itself last night and I almost took the dive. I had been moving cross country from east to west in the hopes of reaching the North West Airfield everyone was always talking about. Yesterday I ended up in a little town just east from said airfield. I was so excited, almost smelling the goodies that lay in wait for me at the field. One moot point; I had lost my CZ sniper AND my M1911 during a backpack switching mishap, and was wielding only a crossbow with, luckily, 8 steel bolts. I had picked up binoculars in a church the day before, and a compass, making life just a tad easier on me. I was determined to find a new weapon before moving into the airfield. Scouting the town from the edge of a nearby forest I saw a large open barn. JACKPOT! I thought to myself, and circled around to get close without exposing myself. Starting to walk in I heard it.. Gunshots! Quickly lying down I waited and took the Binoculars out again, trying to find the source. I saw HORDES of zeds rushing for the barn, and then it struck me, someone was in there. apparently he fired a lee enfield and attracted all the zed in the neighbouring village as well. Zed after Zed was going in there, and pop after pop he was laying them down... but there were too much. eventually the shooting died out and I saw zeds coming back out. He bought it. I made my way up the barn to see what was left to loot. On the way there I entered a small house first, and lo and behold: an M1911. This was my lucky day. Re-equiping the weapon and putting the left-over clips I had in my inventory ready for use, I go to the barn. To my amazement, I hear several zeds still inside. It appears they were trapped in a small sideroom of the barn, and were bumping into each other. I took my time to loot the barn, finding a CZ and an empty winchester. I couldn't believe my luck. Suddenly I realised that since I had to leave the crossbow anyway, I might as well use it to kill some zeds before I go. After all, it's a silent weapon and they wouldn't be alerted by it. I took out all the zed in the barn, and left for the airfield. After an hour, in the dark by then, I arrived. It looked deserted at first, but then I saw the hordes of zed roaming the place. I had slain two pilot zeds on the outskirts before, thinking there was only one.. and lost some blood in the process. I made my way to one of the buildings, and climbed up the stairs to get a better view of the place. As I was looting and eating/drinking on the way, I scrolled my mousewheel by accident, ending up with a flare in my hand. Suddenly, my entire area was lit up by a red glow. Did I accidentally light a flare? It couldn't be, I wasn't that careless, or I wouldn't be here in the first place. I panicked, and then it happened.. before I knew it I saw my character throw a glowstick out of the window. What had I done?! I crawled back in the corner of the second floor, and waited. Thoughts rushing through my mind, I don't wanna die here, not now that I was so close to my goal. Seconds go by, my heart pounding in my throat. And then it happened.. Suddenly I see a head poppung up in the stairway entrance.. a bandit! It seemed as though I was playing Max Payne, as the next second seemed endless and tense, feeling like minutes going by. I was thinking, do I shoot or don't I? Then the stranger decided for me. I got hit by his CZ rifle and I shot him 4 times in the head with my M1911. He fell down, dead. I was bleeding heavily, and started to have blurry vision. My worries weren't over though. The gunfire lured all the zed in the vincinity into the building. I could hear their screams. Pointing my gun at the stairs, I waited for them, and popped headshots as they came in one by one. Eventually they stopped coming. I had lived! Needing blood badly, I went through the things of the stranger. My luck streak kept going, as it appears he had everything on him. Cooked meat, matches, knife, raw meat, toolbox.. All he was missing was NVG's! I ate the meat and got out of there, but broke a bone on the way down and lost more blood.. Now down to 1000, I would have to get out nearly blind, and fainting every few minutes. Eventually I got out, and headed back east. Started a fire for the first time in this game and cooked the raw meat the guy left me, eating some beans I had in my pack. Now my blood is back at 2200, but vision is still very blurry. Tonight I'll be going off into the woods and fields away from civilisation trying to find animals to kill and roast. What a thrill, killing that first bandit. This game has a real grip on me. Thanks to all the people behind the scenes of this mod, you made one insanely cool MP game and gave me the best alternative for BF3 after it got fucked up by their devs in the latest patch. Keep up the good work!

    looting while prone

It came to me that can't loot dead bodies or piles of stuff without sitting on one knee. I recently started playing the game and I had noticed someone shooting zombies in a town furter up. Suddenly the shooting stopped. I went over there, crawled my way in and noticed the dead survivor on the ground. I crawled near him, undetected by the zeds. The second i hit G to loot his backpack I notice my character going to a kneeled position, and suddenly all hell breaks loose (ended up dieing a cruel zombie munching death). This way I realised that when you are in middle of town surrounded by zombies there's no chance you can loot while being undetected by the creatures, which is kind of a pitty imho. Being a lone wolf player I prefer staying at a distance and planning out my strategy before going in, remain undetected and sneak out the same way. I think it would be more realistic if I could loot a guy's body while lying down, so I don't compromise myself when zeds are around.
  16. i want this. having to go in a perfect straight angle to get through an open door is stupid. you should be able to go through a door sideways and use it for cover etc.

    i want this please.

    Changing Player Profile - consequences

Thanks for this. I had problems with the game using my real name through steam, and I want my nick to be displayed ingame so people know to fear me (if they are bandits that is).

Did i do a survivor dirty????

Not dirty, just another part of the game and why it is so great. It confronts you with the humanity behind killing others - in regular "shooters" you don't think about the other players you kill, since in your eyes they are the baddies and they need to go. Here, it's the zeds that are after you. Other survivors might just be ordinary people like you, just trying to survive one day at a time. Feeling sorry for shooting someone is a feeling need to discover yet, as to date I've only killed zeds that managed to track me down despite my precautions. I hope to feel that way though, it'll give me another persepective on the game and another confirmation of the reason I started playing it.
  20. I would really like the game to warn me when I try to put stuff in my backpack when there is not enough room for them, instead of just deleting them from the world. Because I didn't watch the number of available slots in my pack I lost both my scoped rifle and my m1911 when I tried to put them in my pack to use a different weapon.
  21. two words... suggestions subforum! I'm not saying this is a bug, I'm saying it's a feature I'ld like to see. Too bad to see that this might be an Arma II engine problem though. Let's hope those guys at Bohemia stay true to their words. I read an article where they say they will assist the mod team in the next patch..

    looting while prone

I only had a handgun, so that must have been it. Thanks for the tip, so if you have your main gun equiped you can loot while lying down?

A Cautionary Tale Involving a Helicopter

was it those SOH guys? I played on a server with two players carrying an SOH clantag and they were actively ambushing players near a helicopter.

    Long term survival is pointless

I've never been killed by survivors to date, but I only started playing a couple of days ago so it might be that most I've come across were just as new as I was. Came across two others that were shooting wildly at zombies near a barn where I just passed by. I let them go, as I was in the mountains and only had the standard handgun you start out with.
