    Let friends spawn together

The fact that you can't spawn together is another aspect of the realism in this game. Making it so that you can spawn on friends would take away a huge part of the excitement trying to find your way to their location, surviving on your own, gathering stuff, and linking up. I can tell you, I've had to do this a couple of times and it was a thrill just to be able to find them without a map or compass.
  2. There seems to be a real grind of characters in the game lately. If you remember the recent 1 million character database hickup, you can relate to how fast people are dieing and getting new characters. Maybe it's because the playerbase nearly doubled in 2 weeks time? lol
  3. I am an avid user of the crossbow, against zombies that is. I don't like shooting other players, and tend to avoid them at any means possible. I was used to taking my time sneaking up on walker or monkey zombies, and then aiming down sight, shooting them in the chest from 3-4 meter away making a path for me towards my looting place. Since the 1.6 patch I noticed that I had to shoot two bolts in alot of the cases, because even though I aimed at the chest, the bolt would end up in the arm, or even cleanly miss the shot and the zombie would just keep walking. It even happend that they attacked me, since reloading and then firing the crossbow would take very long. Even after reloading I would need a few seconds before my avid mouse clicking would transfer into a bolt being fired. Now I've been used to the crossbow and how the sights were off, and I have practiced until perfect and I have racked up some decent number of kills with it already. Heck, at one time I even took the time to clear an entire village of zombies before moving on. So I was wondering, did the crossbow get a nerf, and if so, how did it get one? It's already a tad harder to use one since the ammo takes one slot per bolt and they often disappear after using. I really hope the accuracy or damage wasn't lowered for some reason. thanks for reading and please post your comments.

Did crossbows get nerfed in 1.6 patch?

yea, sometimes they tend to disappear though. I had it happen to me several times already. Not sure if the bolts may have a limited amount of uses and this causes them to disappear. what I DID have happen to me is that they get stuck in mid air and I find them floating above ground, ready to be picked up again. I'm working on a little documentation for rocket to help him debug the weapon.

Did crossbows get nerfed in 1.6 patch?

that's good and all, but I didn't start a topic on how good or bad a crossbow ingame is. All i wanted to verify is if the thing was nerfed or not in the last patch. I could kill with it before, and now I can't anymore, so I think something changed.

Did crossbows get nerfed in 1.6 patch?

yea, but that's the thing.. I think the crossbow has been changed. I'll try to figure out if, and how.

Did crossbows get nerfed in 1.6 patch?

The trick is to imagine the "crosshair" to be exactly 1cm above the actual one ingame while aiming down sight. Shoot at a wall to see what I mean. That's how I found out. The view model of the bow appears to be a bit low compared to the actual location of the crosshair. That's why I always shot them up close while prone..

    Matches?

try going for the forts in the map. They tend to hold knifes, matches and tons of nice loot. Not many players seem to be going there either, since they are off the beaten path and on high peaks in the landscape. definately worth a go.
  10. Date/Time: 26/05/2012 around 17h gmt+1 What happened: I killed a boar but when i tried to skin it (i had a knife in my gear) it only showed a "hide body" option in the menu. screen at the bottom. Where you were: in the woods directly north of vysota, to the north-east of the little farm that is just there along the road. What you were doing: tried to skin the animal in several attempts, went back a little to try and get the mouse-over option to middle mouse click but didn't get it, tried opening gear, tried *Current installed version: 1.5.8.4 *Server(s) you were on: i think it was nyc 7 *Your system specs: i5 2500k @4,2ghz, 16gb ram @ 1333mhz, crucial m4 ssd, 2x570ti in sli. *Timeline of events before/after error: I found two tents moments before the boar encounter. I had opened them to find out what was inside. They were not my tents. I kept having a "save old tent" option in my mouse scroll menu, even after selecting it before and middle clicking it. pic:

    The Moral Effect Theory v2.0

i do like the idea of a corpse attrackting zombies. This effects players of both sides alike. good idea! it might not help counter the bandit sniper though. If he sees two survivors scurrying around he might shoot one and watch how the hilarity ensues..

[1.5.8.4] Using items on other players

I had a mishap with this.. I wanted to switch weapons to get a zed that was next to a goat i was planning on killing.. when suddenly my character starts lighting a fire. Apparently there were logs at my feet from a previous survivor who left them there and i was standing right on top of them at the moment. Had to eat one of the meat i cooked right away to cover the blood loss.. pitty.

    The Moral Effect Theory v2.0

You can take your whole Clockwork Orange symbolism and go, unless you are going to enable the similar mechanic on people who do not shoot other people, and make their sights shake or their gun drop, with an audible "I can't do it!" because they refuse to take a human life. You aren't talking about balance. You are talking punishment for an in-game allowable occurrence. Until you have similar effects for those who don't shoot other people, then you cannot arbitrarily enforce rules on a group based upon their play-style. EDIT: Oh, and to the OP. What you have proposed is a hypothesis, not a theory. I have no clue what a clockwork orange has to do with this. I've seen it in parts during English class in the past but I hardly remember anything past the trowing feces at the wall part. Something tells me you are playing as a bandit. The point you are trying to make however is fairly lopsided. Survivors don't cause troubles for other players in the game. They cause neither positive nor negative effects on the world they are trying to survive in. Bandits end the lives of other players, get rewarded with loot and cause a negative effect to the game and the players they have shot. The fact that bandits can cause this much negative effect to the game should be countered with something negative for them too. If you think that's not necessary, you just want to keep your bandit-way of play in the game safe (and easy) and are being selfish towards other players.

    How To: Survive the Coast

nice video rhodes, i encountered you ingame a couple of times. It surprises me how "fast" you play, and also the lack of food you take with you even with low health. If you don't care to take it with you, why not eat it and get your blood up to par?

[GUIDE] City Sized Maps - WIP

Just wondering, why is the cup of coffee icon marked "zombies" in the legend? (bottom right of your pictures). What does it represent?

    I accept the OP's proposal.

    The Moral Effect Theory v2.0

I want to jump in to this discussion myself. I've read several of the other posts and things more or less come down to the same thing; - who are we to decide that killing players is wrong, it's the player's decision to do so? - how do you want to make a player feel bad about something he doesn't regret when playing the game? I think the most intense idea behind this mod is actually the fact that you get attached to your character once you have been playing for a while to get where you are now. Since the pace of this mod is rather slow, it takes time to get the things you need to survive. The fact that another player can end your life in a split second is something that is nerve wrecking and adds to the emersion. We can use this to our advantage towards players that decide to become player killers just for the sake of it. Let's face it, there are players that shoot everything just because they want to shoot everything, and are able to do so without repercussion. They mostly don't care about the actual intention of this mod, they just want to kill. This messes with the system and frustrates alot of players that want to get by and enjoy this mod for what it is. Psychologically, each kill they make is like winning a jackpot in a lottery. In fact, they are being conditioned towards killing other players with positive reinforcement after the kill, in the form of loot. To counter this would be adding something to the game that negates the positive reinforcement. We need something that makes a killer feel bad about killing other players, through a mechanic ingame that gives a negative feeling. The notion that you can't tell a player what he needs to feel is countered by something he will feel negatively about, and link it to the murders he has been committing. In psychology, this is called classical conditioning (dog of pavlov). Making it tougher to survive for killers in general can be a way to go, but it should be reversable. If a player kills one too many, and is punished with vomit and fainting for the rest of his game life, he'll not be inclined to play any further. Make it possible to cure, but make it hard, so the player will be conditioned into thinking twice before killing someone, which is the direction we want to go in. This is a case of operant conditioning; where the psyche is changed depending on the environmental situaion he is put in. Is it worth getting sick all the time over the beans he MIGHT carry? Is it worth killing other players of the annoying experience I will have for a long time? These are the questions we need to get into the gamer's brains. These are the feelings we need to envoke on players. That's how the psychology behind such a game mechanic could work, and make for a better game experience for all; - you could still have some very tense situations between players - you could still survive as a player killer - you would have to cope with the consequences of being a player killer - you would be able to cure the consequences although it will be hard - you will think twice before continuing on your rampage against other players When players now kill someone they didn't intend to kill, they might feel bad about their deeds. Imagine the fear they will feel if they realise they might just have started a chain reaction which will lead them on a hunt for medicine that is scarcely available. I can tell you now, it will add a whole new layer to the game and it will eventually be the solution to this problem.

    Medical supplies inland

After seeing this map (warning, spoilers) http://teamfackin.com/moocow/dayz/map/ I noticed how little medical supplies were available inland. Having the new temperature system that makes you sick, I suggest there be added more medical spawns inland to make it doable to keep alive while up there. I myself have gotten sick really fast shortly after the introduction of the temp system, only to be shot and nearly die. Wandering around fainting all the time in the vincinity of NW airfield I tried to find antibiotics but now I see why there weren't any..

Which T-Shirt design would you buy?

I'm not always for buying t-shirts, but i'm strangely thinking of going for the first one if it came out.
  21. I was wandering around a clinic yesterday close to a church in eastern Elektrozavodsk and I didn't find an entrance. It did seem to have an inside though.. where is the entrance?

First kill... hated it :( Thanks the devs!

it's awesome isn't it. Indeed very much the reason why everyone loves this mod so much.
