  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDa6KTyTpt0 in short: the crosshair's position will determine where the damage is dealt. The animation of the melee weapon's "swing" will change the position of the crosshair, and it differs for each weapon. Axe = straight dead on, knife = waaay to the left. Everything else is in between.

    Problem with Steam and DayZ

    what program file? did you configure the launch options to include dayz when you start arma2 combined operations? Starting DayZ from steam requires this. Als you need to make sure you have the latest arma 2 beta installed and overwrite the main arma2oa.exe with the one in the beta folder. this should go in troubleshooting btw, not general discussion.

    The people that come here are the ones that are passionate about the mod and the direction it takes. Before Dean left the mod in the "community's" hands, everyone here had some sort of voice to help determine what DayZ would be like after a new patch, and it turned out fantastic. Now, this voice is deafened more and more and we start to see stuff like these food trinkets appear, so I'm worried that this will spiral the mod into something none of us will like. Then the players that don't come here or in any community regarding DayZ will stop playing the game as well and everyone will lose. Edit: this is exactly what I've been trying to put forward here.     I think you are missing the point here. This is a typical small start of a direction to take with the development of the game (mod). It's these changes in mindsets that lead to a game none of us will approve of and eventually will lead to the death of the mod. And I don't want to see that happen because I love this mod and have played it nearly daily since I got to know it in May 2012. I loved the direct and 'clean' approach Dean took to this game. I don't want to see it littered with the carelessly approved ideas and trinkets of a team of people that took over when he started developing his standalone version. If anything I find it offensive towards Dean and shows the lack of vision Dean had when he started this.

    I must say, I like an easter egg just as much as the last guy. But the can/soda thing is a tad too much. And I see these cans and sodas just as that, easter eggs. It's kind of a way to say, hey, I made this map/mod/feature and I left this here for you to discover and have a chuckle about it. It should be a wink towards the player, and it will be met with the respect you would expect from the player that encounters it. But the whole idea of an easter egg is that it's not in your face all the time. The cans thing is more of a desperate cry for attention than anything else right now. The idea is nice but the execution, frankly, isn't. I would think of a poster, or a sign somewhere in a village, a tombstone with a nickname on it, a roadsign with a nickname on it etc.. Maybe a zombie type with a name tag on its suit that only spawns in a specific spot on the map. Subtle things you need to discover and can only be found at a certain spot in the map. That would make such an addition way better.

    how many slots will the new backpack have? also, less antibiotics? when first playing the map i got a cold right away, and I had to look for very long time to find antibiotics.. my friends kept telling me to just kill myself and pick up my own gear to get rid of the infection (i didn't, but still, I thought about it for a while). don't you think that reducing the spawn rate for antibiotics will just encourage people to do the same?

  14. i love this idea. it will indeed very much affect the way people play, and making it elaborate enough will keep things interesting. I can only imagine you are looking for peniciline, and then you see a box of antibiotics only to find out it's a box of ciprofloxacin.. noooooooo
  15. Bandits receive negative humanity in the amount of the positive humanity of the players they shot. However, killing bandits currently doesn't do anything for the player that shot the bandit. As hero status is now a fact, players that kill a bandit should also receive their humanity reversed, in other words, if someone kills a bandit with -10000 humanity they should receive +10000 humanity to their total. It's just logical and it will help serve the game's purpose and ideas.

    Warm clothes

    I just checked, it's the base where the antenna is. The antenna, all 3 barracks there and the big square building next to the antenna spawn warm clothes (between 1% and 1,8% chance) so you're pretty much taking a big risk trying to find those.

In short, I'm a medical player that provides people with needed medical materials, and chuck in a guillie or other special items I come across when traversing the map. My videos caused my skype account (fritzzefriendly) to be flooded in such a manner that I could not keep up with the requests. Running around like a headless chicken became the largest part of my gametime. On top of that, I only play during a certain timeframe, which ensured that I was enable to help players that were offline when I played. On top of that, I received numerous requests from players that wanted to help with gathering, which I had to deny (it would take out one of the most fun parts of playing as a medic). I started thinking how I could fix this. At a certain point a US based player needed antibiotics and I set up a tent on a US server in a secure location, put in the antibiotics and handed him the location. I came up with the Fritz' Self-Help Initiative as a result. I have been setting up tents all across chernarus at discreet locations, close to towns and cities where people tend to get in trouble and need help (blood loss, broken bones, etc). These tents are marked in a publicly accessable marker set on the geat DayZmap at DayZDB.com. By deselecting the standard icons you will see the tent-icons on the map. An upcoming video will also show the tents ingame, so you know where to look (some are harder to find than others). Now, these tents are meant to be public. Anyone in trouble can use them. The next question will be, how about the stuff that people take out? Well, this is where the gatherers come in. If you feel like helping, you can gather some supplies, and head to a tent in the list and look if it can use some filling up. Also, if you have used gear from one of the tents, take some time later in your life to return to the tent and fill it up with gear again so others can be helped out when in need. Look at it as a pay it forward idea. If you want, you can help expand the network. You can for example set up a tent at the same location, but on a different server. PM me, and I will come to check the tent. If I agree with the setup, I will add the tent and the server to the list. You can also try and find other locations for self help tents, and PM me those too. Keep in mind that these tents need to be close (1-2km) from a town and decently conceiled. Currently I've been setting up tents only on European servers. I will try and set up tents at the same location across decent US servers as well. If any of you know a good US server that will stay online (I've had US servers disappear on me already), I'm all ears. (pm me here or on skype) There's no signup on this project. If you feel like helping, just go for it. If you don't want to help anymore, then just stop helping. Nobody is there to check up on you, this projects follows the exact sandbox principle DayZ is based upon. Also, try not to kill each other around the tents, it would kinda defeat the purpose of this idea. On the other hand, you're free to do what you want ofcourse. The tents are meant to hold ONLY these things: Cooked meat Bandages Morphine Antibiotics Compass Map Knife Matches Hatchet (optional) Guillie/Camouflage suits (optional) NVG Do NOT store weapons in the tents. Putting in weapons would defeat the whole purpose of this network. If you find a weapon in one of the self-help tents, just chuck it out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TL;DR To cope with growing requests for help and timezone differences I've set up a series of tents that hold medical supplies for people in need Anyone can use them If you use stuff from the tent consider coming back later and refilling the tent If you feel like helping out, collect gear and fill up tents where needed Only store cooked meat, bandages, morhpine, antibiotics, matches, hatchet, knife, compass, map in the tent. Optional gear can be guillie/camouflage suits/nvg's, but NO weapons. If you find a weapon in the tent besides the hatchet, chuck it out. Tents are currently only on EU servers, US servers will be next. Open to suggestions (I'm not aware of any good US servers that will not suddenly disappear, which has happened). Try not to shoot people that are using the tent, but ofcourse, I can not stop you from doing that. Use the tents at own risk. If you feel like expanding the tent network, pm me the location of the tent, the server and I will check it out. If I agree, I will add the tent to the network. Feel free to place a tent at the same location on a different server.   20. you people are too negative. A flattened tent will just pop up after a server restart. Also, it gives me something to do (setting them up and refilling them if destroyed) why can't you just accept that this is an option instead of allways being so negative. The fact that people don't trust anyone anymore and just go about and be dicks in this game is all linked to each other. Try to be positive for ONCE.
  21. i haven't been able to play much lately, but i've heard quite some people on my skype list that they pass along the tents regularly and drop in some stuff. the system is starting to work.
  22. hey guys, today (13 sept) at 6:30 am gmt+1 I logged on to US2419, it appears tents/vehicles didn't spawn. Wait for a server restart to go looking for aid.
  23. Please note, I've updated the OP with a written list of coordinates and locations for the tents. This is for people that aren't able to open the dayzdb map, or if the site goes down.
  24. I think it depends. If they are fully aware of the danger that this person is posing to them, they would be thankful rather than view their rescuer as a monster.
  25. bandits kill players for loot, heros shoot bandits for positive humanity. The circle is complete. Right now, the game is too lopsided towards bandits. Give players an incentive to play something different, and they will be torn between the two options. It reflects real human emotion and morality.
