My Rant: Why I am Done with the Game.

Dick camper bandits I agree with and I think this is what is turning some new players off from the game. I keep on saying - run North as fast as you can and get away from the shoreline and its cities. Then the game is much more rewarding. Having said that - dying is an intrinsic part of this game. The goal of the game is to NOT die. That is your reward. Your reward should be the day count when you spawn...the more, the better you are doing at surviving...which is the MAIN OBJECTIVE. You die...well, your loot is lost to that life. That's what happens. You're a ghost... Considering that the game is considered Alpha by the devs and the majority of the players...do not take it seriously. Explore its boundaries. Explore what is available. Then sit back and provide feedback...what works, what doesn't, what could be done better, etc etc. Dude...we have some awesome devs that actually read our raves and rants. They even take into account our observations...what more can you ask for? Can you actually do that with Dice and their butt-f-ck 3? Nope. Anyways - I'm having fun with the game and I play mainly solo. I do not murder people even though I have had the upper hand numerous times. If someone seems aggressive...escape and evasion baby! There's nothing like the experience of escaping the ultimate predator - another human being. Or turning the tables on them ;-) This is why this game is so unique and is considered a 'sandbox'. Just do whatever you fill like doing within the given parameters. I would recommend that you do not dedicate too much time to it right now. Play it now and then - every time there is an update to see what has been changed/added and see how it evolves. But hey...whatever floats your boat dude.

I'd say keep an eye on the eaten face victim. If I were the ER doc, I'd have him sedated and tied down...for observation ya know...

Reply to Rocket about zombie AI

I think the Zed are fine. 'Infected humans' instead of 'mindless zombies' might be a more plausible scenario. Having said that, I think that we need to rethink how the zed spawn, where they hang out, how the migrate (if they move from their spawn points) and whether or not they will roam. Right now, the zed remind me more of the zombies from The Walking Dead in that they just seem to roam around the area in which they died. I like the zeds from World War Z or Day by Day Armageddon (great books by they way). Massive zombie hordes that roam around and are attracted by sound and possibly smell. As the body rots, you can bet that their eyeballs are gone...therefore, they cannot see. Movement...its a tough one. 'Fresh' zed should be able to move like humans but as their bodies deteriorate they should atrophy and start to suffer from rigor mortis (or something similar). There should be some way to simulate their stench as well :-) What needs to be fixed - just my two cents - is their ability to see/attack you through walls and their ability to walk through otherwise solid objects. As for their present zig-zag running back attack...that needs to be addressed as well. I consider the zed to be 'mindless' in that they will not plan out their attack...just make a b-line towards you and that's that. Rocket needs to INCREASE the number of zed IMO and have many more roaming the countryside. Right now...they are easy to avoid and fairly easy to defeat once you have the proper gear...

  5. I just did an integrity check on my Steam files for Arma and guess what...BattleEye had to be reloaded... Interesting. Unfortunately, it did NOT fix my problem. Still getting stuck at 'Receiving Data...'

Continue to see the following - Type: outgoing, Port: 8, Process: arma2oa.exe) 2012/05/26 10:16:05 -0600 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX IP-BLOCK 109.236.85.132 (Type: outgoing, Port: 51819, Process: arma2oa.exe) 2012/05/26 10:29:04 -0600 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX IP-BLOCK 69.162.80.146 (Type: outgoing, Port: 8, Process: arma2oa.exe) So, I guess my question is - are these outbound connection attempts for the executable for BattleEye or for the game executable? I am trying to connect to TX4 and one server in Chicago. Why they heck is my box trying to connect to an IP in the Netherlands? Also, I am experiencing the 'Receiving Data...' freeze on game startup. I have noticed that many people are experiencing the same thing. Are these events related?

    Stuck at "Receiving Data"...

Nope - not working. Actually checked the file integrity via Steam and BattleEye was reloaded by Steam. Interesting. I get stuck at the part where it says 'Receiving Data...' Stops around 80%. Update - now am at Waiting for server response. Just taking MUCH longer than usual. Must be more players on a long weekend. Oh yeah...and for some school is finally out, right? :dodgy:
  8. Not a bug per se...just how the spawn system works. If so many people spawn in the same area...you will have PK campers just waiting for their next victim. Noob players will stay close to the shoreline since twp relatively large cities are there. Once they change this, things should get better.

    Is rocket satisfied with us?

Rocket - I think your intentions are great. I appreciate how you interact with the community and how you integrate our feedback, but you also have to think about compensation for your time and money. I've stated before - I would easily drop 50 clams for a full-bore game. Compared to the crap that passes off as a 'finished product' by commercial lines....Day Z offers and experience that none have managed to capture...yet. I won't degrade what the gang behind STALKER tried to do. I think that BI and them should team up (guided by you of course) and you could crank out one of the most immersive 'open world game out there. I am also impressed by what you have managed to accomplish server-side. I think we can all say that the performance of the game itself has increased tremendously in the past couple of weeks. It would be really cool if you and BI managed to create a persistent world using the mechanics of what CCP managed to accomplish with EVE Online. 50K+ online at any one time. We can dream, no? Anyways, I appreciate your time and your efforts. Keep up the great work!

No man - I have never tried to join servers in Europe - ping would be (is) too high. I play only on US servers.

Uh' date=' you realize that counter-strike was sold as a product by valve shortly after it was acquired? They made a cool 9 million out of it. I can't keep paying for everything myself. It's not your typical mod. I also can't keep devoting all my time to it. This mod will die if it doesn't recover some costs. Dude...then you have to throw the mod on Kickstarter and get your necessary financing that way, unless BI wants to pony up for your expenses - or hire you full-time, which ever you prefer. Kickstarter would be a good idea since 1) the player base is large already, 2) we know that Day Z is not a scam and 3) you might get plenty of dough to really get this thing in full gear and move beyond an 'experiment'. I think each of us would pitch in 50 clams for the game - easy.

Nope' date=' that's a Netherlands IP, as you can verify for yourself, which fits with what faaa posted. Got the IPs mixed up - this is the IP in Moldova - http://whois.domaintools.com/87.248.160.170

Need the map? Get it from here!

See...this kind of shit needs to go away. Loot needs to be randomized so that players can't create cheat maps for a survival game. Friggin idiotic.
