No, its not realistic. What you have to do when you start is double click shift so you're not running constantly, then either crouch or prone round the small village where you spawn looking for hatchets or firearms. IF you start in a major city, this will be easy, but if you start in a smaller one, it will take time. You just have to learn how to avoid zombies and other players until you have some decent weaponry.

Someone did that to me. I spawned not far from them, found an ak74 and ran back. Down direct comms I called him some nasty words. He came running at me with an axe. It didn't end well for him that time.... Or the countless times he came back pleading for mercy and my help after that. I have one thing to say to you. Oh, you die alot? You sound like the perfect partner! Ok, in all seriousness, abuse aside, if its zombies, you have to go prone to crawl past them, or if its in a small village SPRINT through into the tree line (they tend to lose you in there). Using smoke grenades work as well. Throw these infront of you then run through them and go prone. The zombies lose aggro instantly. If its players, there's not really much advice I can give. Practice getting shots on aggroed zombies, this will help improve your aim and help you get an idea of where the bullets are going to go! Avoid the main towns and cities, etc. IF you want to team up for a bit, I'm going to be on a little later today, I'm just off to the phone store to upgrade my mobile. I don't see what the big deal is with Green Mountain. I've been there, looted it. All I found was shit tbh. Tin cans, flashlight and some creepy yeti! Then I realised it was some dude in a ghillie trying to get the drop on me! I dropped that bitch like a sack of potatoes

...The stand-alone uses a different engine. War-Z may be coming soon, I took a look at their website, yeah, it looks alright but its so obviously copied from this, right down the the "Z". I'll be buying the standalone version of this! You are so obviously either a War-Z Fanboy or one of their staff members! I thought people had better things to do with their time than come on a forum and slag off a mod! All I can say is, well done you. It's part of the game! Someone hacked me to death when I had decent equipment and I spawned quite near him! He hadn't taken anything from my body, so I took all my stuff back and ran into him again! I'd told him the last time that I was friendly, so this time, I was quite angry (I would have understood if he'd taken my stuff, but he didn't touch a thing).... So I said "you fucking prick! I said I was friendly!" He fired off a couple of makarov rounds into my chest so I dived behing a car and opened up with my AK74 and took him down! Mostly, it is just survival, or to steal loot, which I understand, but its the people that kill just to wind people up that annoy me

First of all, sorry my PM sent 4 or 5 times, I did it from my phone and it tends to mess about like that! Now, just a bit of background, I'm a 21 year old male from London, UK... I tend to play as a survivor, we have a group of 6 people that regularly play together and we go all over the map scavenging and just generally having a laugh! I play for a few hours practically every day (I've been off work for the past week so have been playing for at least 7 hours a day!!) .Why you have chosen that lifestyle? I like teamwork and find I work very well with other people! I have to work in a team for my job, which probably explains why I like being round people in the game. .What drives you to play like that? Interaction makes the game funner! I can't imagine running round for 8 or 9 hours on my own with no one to talk too! .A normal session in DayZ for you... I sign into our teams server on Mumble and find out where the guys are, travel to meet them (we have a couple of vehicles now) and try to find jerry cans to fuel up our chopper! .Has this game affected aspects of your real life? Nope, I already go on Survival Camps and am pretty fit so nothings really changed. .What made you choose DayZ? My mate recommended it to me when we were working a night shift. We both play ARMA, so I thought I'd give it a go, and I loved it! .Why you play DayZ? Its captured what so many zombie games haven't managed too! I was in Electro today and only had a Lee Enfield with 10 rounds (as I had just died, and found some guys body with that on him). Anyway, down by the dock, I saw him running along so I shouted "FRIENDLY! Don't fire". The guy then went prone and aimed his AKM at me, so I ducked behind the crane and readied my rifle! I called out "I'm friendly, I just died so I'm heading back to Green Mountain to get my stuff back, don't shoot!" Again, the guy didn't respond! I knew I was close enough for him to hear me as I have heard players further away than him. I gave him one final chance and said "I'm friendly, lower your weapon or I'll presume you're hostile!". Again, he didn't respond, so I went from crouching, dived out the side of the crane into prone and got a headshot out of it.... As well as -humanity which too it to -587!!! I was trying to play a survivor, but I killed an innocent! However, he did not respond after numerous attempts and did not lower his weapon! This whole standoff lasted about 5 minutes! Unfortunately, killing is an everyday occurrence in DayZ, I found for the first time today that I couldn't actually go to Cherno without being killed (normally I'm in a group of 6/7 people, but today I went in by myself)

The Veteran Server I play on has third person. However, Regular lets you see peoples names as you hover over them, good for spotting people, but if you want to be stealthy and have a ghillie, it's not good! Also, you take more damage from players in Veteran (not sure about zombies though).

Right, basically I cannot toggle run! It's set to default to "2x left shift" but when I try this, OR when I try just holding it down to make me slower, it does not work :S Also, how on earth do you open your inventory? I couldn't find the command anywhere in the controls??

Nope, they changed it so your start with NOTHING!! It's more realistic that way, no one would have been expecting a zombie apocalypse, so it makes sense that you have nothing on you. Finally, no it is not possible to defend yourself using your hands, can you imagine if you punched a zombie and your hand got stuck in its chest? Wouldn't be pretty!

No. You can't own DayZ through Steam, as it is a mod and even if Arma II was available on the PS3, Sony does not allow mods to be put onto their systems.

1. He could have shot at you in the chopper, you can still be killed. 2. The guy in the ghille suit, are you sure you actually hit him? I have had no problems whatsoever with hackers. And its DayZ, you're MEANT to die a lot when you first start out
