Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Agreed, I also grew up in the sticks and find you only come across DayZ darkness when its fully overcast with no moon. Its hard to say how far you would see on "typical" night, I am sure Dean will address the level of darkness if enough people raise it as an issue. Obvously Kobeandodom brought this up because of a server bug sending different day cycles to players but I always found the darkness in DayZ to be unrealistic and honestly pretty unplayable. -

A number of people are complaining about the key-mechanics rather than the feature, I would suggest holding down the attack key to wind up then release. if you don't hold it down long enough the character doesn't swing. Or you could add a variable strength to the swing, the more you wind up the harder you hit, obviously there would need to be a maximum value. -

This idea is excellent, I like the idea that you have a limited amount of time to loot someone, also give players more of an insensitive to kill zombies rather than avoiding them. -
What would you prefer?
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to PinguAlmighty's topic in General Discussion
The Zed in WWZ were not slow, when they seen someone they went into a frenzy very similar to "I am legend". They were just a crazy as I am legend. Good poll though, will be good to see the results when more people respond. Cheers. -
How often do you die from glitches?
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to infiltrator's topic in New Player Discussion
Hey Infiltrator, welcome to the forums. Excellent to have another fan of DayZ supporting the community. Please forgive some of our more ignorant long term members, they hear your story a great deal and get a little tired of reading the same posts. The Alpha is not intended as a fully operational game and has significant defects, the development team are working hard to correct them but only have limited resources. If you give it another month or so they will get round to fixing these bugs, you should have seen the MOD. It had some doozies! Anyway, simple answer is to log the problem on the forums "Bug" section and it will be investigated. (In this case its already there but always good to follow the proper reporting channels) Welcome again and please share more of your stories. -
I really like the idea, I am a professional marksman in high calibre rifles and I can attest to the problems with extended stalking. This would be excellent to introduce.

Fix (not remove) Third Person Perspective
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to floj's topic in Suggestions
I agree with phl0gist0n main point, the problem with 3rd person is it can be used to gain access to alternative view points. This in turn causes players "in some combat scenarios" to have a tactical advantage. I honestly believe the outcome will be a separation of server types 1st person only and 3rd/1st person. There is no "easy way" to fix 3rd person exploits. The developers will likely shelve this problem until later then come back to it, currently they have more important issues to deal with. Its good to see players like phl0gist0n who are actually searching for a solution rather than b*tching about the problem. Would reducing the view distance from the character help reduce the abuse of this exploit? -
I never played the original, why is there 3rd person?
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
I did try to lower the head bob and it definitely helped but still felt crap after 45 minutes or so. I play plenty of FPS without issues (except for half life 2 - that also had the same motion sickness issue) I am a fully qualified open water scuba diver and a fixed wing pilot. I am sure this isn't just me due to others with the same issue. My computer is very beefy as well. I fully see the exploits that can occur due to 3rd person viewpoint however I honestly never got killed by someone using this exploit, was more often from a sniper or a hacker teleporting. I played the MOD for a long time, I am curious to see if anyone has actually been repetitively killed by a player using this exploit??? (this is not me calling bullsh*t I am just curious to actually hear from someone who actually had this issue) Perhaps moving the camera closer to the characters shoulder could help. -
I never played the original, why is there 3rd person?
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
I unfortunately cannot play DayZ in first person for more than 15 minutes without felling sick. It is truly a major bummer. The thing is I am not alone 7 out of my 10 friends who played the mod had the same issue. We wanted to play 1st person servers but simply could not. We are all waiting to see what happens with the 1st or 3rd person decisions as we will not be able to buy the game if it goes 1st person. I would be seriously sad after waiting this long only to find we cannot play it. -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know for a fact that many people simply cannot play DayZ in 1st person, something to do with the head bob, FPS and the monitor hz. I suffer from this and can only enjoy this game in 3rd person. This topic has gained massive interested and shows Rocket that there is no clear winner for either mode ergo both should remain. I would hate to miss the opportunity to play DayZ when its released for something so petty. -
Gamescom - August 2013 - Interviews/Gameplay
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I love that DayZ is third person, I really only use first person the odd time in a building. I plead to Rocket don't force me to use first person, honestly makes me feel sick. After 15-20 minutes the game is unplayable. Had the same issues with Half Life 2. Cheers. -
I was thinking if the guys want to create an expansion to the DayZ game they could possibly consider the following game dynamic. A new map is made lets call it "new america" to get to new america you need to travel through Chernarus to a "transport point" this is a safe zone where your unable to draw your weapon (surrounded by high mountains to prevent snipers shooting in) In order to gain passage you need to collect "fingers" fingers are on everyone when you kill a zombie you go to their body and collect the finger (equally you can kill players and take their fingers) These fingers do not take up inventory slots. perhaps 5000 fingers should get you passage to new america. I think this would encourage zombie killing and give them a "use" Any thoughts???

DayZ expansion suggestion
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to excursion_@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I love that so many people got hung up on the "new america" map that I suggested, it was an example to demonstrate how the map architecture would work. I only used new america as an example to show it was a totally different map with different challenges. Hard to get more unlike cherno than an america map. Honestly I couldn't give a sh*t what the other map is I am just trying to give a suggestion on "how" we transition not "what" we transition too. I do like the idea of natural transition points on the map, mountains and valleys etc. My suggestion was ultimately the same but perhaps to elaborate and with to many "rules". The edge of the map is a perfect point to transition, creating roads and passes that trigger a transition event would work. We are possibly forgetting about the server mechanics, currently DayZ allows you to join any server, it would need to be smart enough to only display servers hosting the map your character is on, if it doesn't do this then you could end up with a character on cherno and a character on the "other map". Thanks for the feedback TacticalN29 I hope this simple and effective solution can be used in the future. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
never go full retard :P ------------------------- You fellas are all right in your own way, graphics are not the be all and end all but they are what attracts "most" people to a title. (There are so many titles on the market that prove this don't even bother trying to say that's incorrect) Arma 3 was released for one simple reason, arma 2 is aging. if it wasn't they why bother making a sequel?? Several people have said that they want to get the most of arma 2 as possible before it sinks, again this reinforces the point I was trying to make. The point of my post, it wasn't to say they should or shouldn't do this, more so that by releasing it on an older platform they run the risk of getting left behind of sale figures because of the aging engine. (Again please don't try to explain this is a different engine because it is not, the architecture is different but the rendering engine is the same) I don't mind when people voice an opinion but it makes you look silly when you comment on things you don't fully understand, just take a few minutes and Google what a rendering engine is. Like I said above "never go full retard" I seriously doubt that BI are spending big bucks on DayZ, I would expect they are doing it low cost to get the most dollar value to themselves. If you believe that they care about anything other than money then please take a short course in marketing. On the other hand I have no doubt that Dean and the team care about this title from a creative point of view and want to see it succeed but they are clearly working to a tight budget. I only wish I could help them in a more direct way. -

Obviously we all love what Hall did with the DayZ mod and yes all the adults in the forum agree that Hall should be involved throughout the development. I will buy this game when it comes out, no question. BUT This game engine Arma II, it is old and I have a major worry that when the time rolls around for SA of DayZ to hit the markets it will be competing on a visual level with games such as BF4. Now I have to reiterate the content and game play going into the SA is unmatched by any game I have seen outside an MMO but there is no question that the Arma 2 engine is aging, the guys have done some impressive things with what they have but I really am concerned that DayZ SA will need a face lift almost immediately after launch, I am sure when BI see the sales of this title they will be forced to create an arma 3 version to keep up with the amazing work other games are also producing. I could go on about the risks of taking to long to produce a title (and DayZ is fast comparatively) however DayZ doesn't need a story, its just a big sandbox. Again big fan of the concept but this in itself removes months if not years of development work. Modifying the client/server architecture however is a monumental task and this will have to be the ace in the hole for the game, I am sure when it reaches us we will look at the MOD and think.... I can't believe I actually played that! (Again for all the kids out there that's not a dig at the MOD but a high five to the SA) I realize that I balance most of my arguments myself but I do have worries, I have personally worked on projects that I executed just like this, some worked well, most did not. I hope when the Alpha is released to us we can nut out any issues quickly and get it into the beta fast so the team can keep the community satisfied. -
lol @ crusader- I didn't want to dignify him with a response but I do love a bit of sarcasm, you have my bean :)

The idea of a working train system has been mentioned many times before, many, many times. Not something so ridiculous as a fully functioning train but better ideas such as a handcar or a petrol train that is repairable. You have to make an idea that fits the world you are gaming in. Like you said before, it doesn't have to be super realistic (broken leg example) but it needs to fit in. Fully functional train system is not going to be introduced but have a look around the forum and see if you can think of something that is unique but also suits the game. The developers must be considering this by now, its had so many people mention the idea.

I would like to propose a possible solution for above ground bases. Matt Lightfoot has indicated that the problem with above ground bases is memory and bandwidth. I am a professional webmaster and am well aware of these issues. I propose the following solution, The map comes with pre-defined buildings that can be used for bases. These houses could have two visual states, The first visual state would be a normal run down, damaged house. The second would be a house with boards and defenses around it. (barbed wire, perhaps a gun in placement) You would need to "repair" these houses in order to use them for their benefits. (the resources required to fix a house would need to be significant as this could be an "end game" item) Now I know what your all thinking, what if I spend all this time fixing a house only to log off and get it stolen. Well it would be possible to steal a house but it would require a very specific set of tools and items, these would be even more difficult to acquire. For example, If you are fixing the house and you get 1 of the 15 items required to patch it.... then for someone to steal it they are required to have 3 items and an engineer kit. However if you spend the time and get all 15 of 15 items to fix a house then its at full defense.... the for someone to steal it they are required to have 30 items and an engineer kit. (obviously the items don't currently exist so the DayZ team would need to consider the balance). I am curious if people like this idea and feel I have earned some beans? What do you think is this prototype idea worthy of the DayZ standalone?? Regards, Excursion

[Standalone Suggestion] Bases
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to excursion_@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I just read joe_mcentire's post, There are similarities to my suggestion, (I think he suggests things that the engine cannot do without major code changes) perhaps we could PM each other and get a solid idea together and present it to the forum together. -
[Standalone Suggestion] Bases
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to excursion_@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It is clear from the links suggested in the responses that "bases" have been suggested in a number of different ways. However I do not believe that my idea is the same, I address the problems inherent with the engine limitations. Additionally I have suggested a solution to the "balancing" problem of bandits. I see no complete ideas in the other posts that give a good solution to protecting the building. I do envisage a number of "normal" buildings being "convertible" to strongholds. In order to ensure good server stability you couldn't have every single building on the map be a stronghold. So again perhaps scatter them around the map and do not identify them so it give en even greater incentive to explore the world. PS. Cheers for all the positive feedback. -
[Standalone Suggestion] Bases
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to excursion_@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
it is important for people to have a greater challenge to break in than to build it for one simple reason..... When you build it your rewards are pretty limited. (storage, security, defenses) this is a great reward don't get me wrong. If you steal a building however your rewards are greater, (the loot plus all above) the payout is greater so the challenge to get to it must also be greater. Its important from a balance point of view as well. Otherwise why bother ever doing it yourself. I understand this isn't an ideal solution, anyone being able to create anything on the map is ideal, however the engine prevents the ideal solution from being possible (at least not possible in the same instance) So I thought this idea would allow the creation of variations to find something the guys at BI could use to solve their problem. Searching the boards for existing ideas can be difficult due to the amount of topics. The community is very creative with their suggestions. -
15 FPS on dayz, 50 fps on arma 2?
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to themichel303's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
if you could run a directX output it would help us identify the problem. I agree with Nimrod, your GTX680 should be eating DayZ alive. FRAPS is the best for testing your FPS Mumble (a free team chat program) can also do it pretty well. To run your system report type dxdiag into your startbar. Then run the tests and generate the report. It will be lots of text but at least we can see your actual system specs. If it was my machine I would do a backup and format. P.S do not load on bloatware (a term used to describe useless software from your retailer) If you don't need it don't load it. This is renowned for slowing A+ machines down. After your system format load on your drivers and software essentials then make an image using the windows 7 backup tool. (This will make future formats 1000% faster) Get the DX report posted here before you do anything. -
15 FPS on dayz, 50 fps on arma 2?
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to themichel303's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
DayZ MOD is not really optimized, its a MOD can't really blame rocket for it. He has indicated significant improvements for the standalone. One of these improvements is the reduction of client side calculations. this will go miles towards the improvement of FPS. I recommend if you wish to continue playing DayZ to start with really low graphic settings and increasing them until you start to get less that 40FPS Anything lower than 40FPS and it will be unpleasant to play. -
I really like these ideas, Pulling them all together like this will save rocket from trolling the boards so much. You done well organizing them but would have been cool to add the name of the original poster next to the suggestion as a courtesy. You still get my beans but I think you should share them back the the forum! :P

What is so fun about this game
excursion_@hotmail.com replied to Brownin's topic in New Player Discussion
I enjoy the open world multi player environment. No game comes close to the map sizes offered by DayZ while including a good multiplayer dynamic
