    What is your FPS?

I don't know how much you actually know about your hardware, but there is actually two cards built into the "one". The memory is mirrored on each card so that each GPU (on the different cards) can communicate faster than sending the memory from one to the other. Meaning you only have 2gb of usable memory. So toting around that big ol' 4gb number is just silly. However, I just ordered two of them with an i7 3930k, and I can't wait to plug those bad boys in! :)

    What is your FPS?

Your eyes can only see about 30 FPS anyway. 60+ FPS is nice for a blurry effect to make things seem smoother to your eyes, but this game has motion blur, making that pointless. More isn't really better. As long as the game is playing smoothly above 30 FPS, you should be happy. I guess there's a reason you over compensated with a $439 video card though. SDS.

    Looking for Good Players

I don't see it in the server list, in-game. I'm trying to join right now.
  5. Technically, BI is making this game. Rocket is an employee of BI, and the project manager for DayZ game. BI is getting paid for every sale of the game, and Rocket is making a salary with probable bonuses (because it was his idea and it is a proven concept). This is how business works.
  6. This is far from the truth. Most developers (the actual designers, programmers and artists) are generally in it to make a game. Making games is a passion, and most developers at game companies get paid crappy money. The company they work for is in it for money. So no, not everyone in gaming business is there for the money. ;)
  7. Sol, you told me you'd show me some stuff if I'd like and I agreed, where is it? I'm interested in following your project. Do you have a blog or anything that you keep your "fans" or friends updated? Perhaps since you're going to release your ALPHA by the end of the year (hopefully as you put it, iirc?) you should start working on getting a following. You've talked it up quite a bit, and regardless of how I feel about you, I love me a good zombie game. So let me know how to keep informed. Thanks
  8. You: Half of what I said wasn't directed at you. I did quote the person to whom I was respond to directly above each section of text. Me: Gotcha. You: So am I smart, or a simpleton... you contradicted yourself, again. Me: Sarcasm over the internet is hard to follow, my apologies. What have I contradicted myself on? You: Just because something is a quick prototype, doesn't mean you keep slapping the shit on it when there are fundamental issues with basic function, unless of course you don't give a shit about your potential player base. Me: That's the thing. He's adding his ideas faster than dealing with the bugs people find (which is absolutely fair in an ALPHA). He's an actual game designer/developer, and he doesn't jump to conclusions immediately. So removing the crap that isn't so good, or "lame" is not on the top of his priority list. It might be on the top of our priority lists as testers, but as the developer, he has a different plan and he's doing what he thinks is best. I'm sure he does care about his player base, but he already knows that his idea/concept is a success, and when working properly it will sell to the masses. 1,000,000 unique players is proof to that and enough to get just about any investor out there. Which is most likely why BI is funding his standalone. You: Engine also = game... at least, in the way I design an engine. The engine is modular, and easy to add/remove features. I guess to suit your definition of a "game" we just have to add pretty pictures to show what our code is doing... then it's a game, I suppose. Me: Once again you did not clarify. You said 3D engine, and in no way is a 3D engine a game engine. I'm presuming you're some self taught game developer at this point who has no real experience, which is why you keep using wrong terminology and fail to be concise about what it is your doing. To suit my definition of a game: there is a start, an objective, and an end. I could careless about your pretty pictures. I'm not a graphics whore. In fact, I still code and play on MUDs. I can only go off of what you say, and you implicated you had a 90% bug-free ALPHA tested game. Once again, it's not my fault you fail to give proper information or to articulate yourself in a manner we can understand. I'm assuming it's because you're over there raging that the mod you want to steal ideas from is not working properly for you, during it's ALPHA testing phase. You: What am I claiming to be that I'm not? Enlighten me... I'm dying to know, how you know so much about who I am, or what I stand for and believe. This ought to be great. Me: A game developer, so far you've said you have 10 years of game design (I actually chuckled at this, it took you 10 years and you've only got a 3D engine at 90% bug-free ALPHA?). The attitude of your posts tell a lot about how you are and who you are.
  9. We'll do a Q and A style approach to your post: You: Calling me a whining asshole? That's rich. Read your post again, whining about me whining... fucking hypocrite. Me: I'm not whining, I'm educating. There is a major difference. :) You're smart, figure it out. You: If moving to beta is so dumb, then why has Rocket skipped that part and started the standalone already? Because he realises that what I'm saying (as well as many many others have been saying) is correct. The mod is pretty much unfixable, and will never ever BE fixed. He SHOULD however, stop adding shit, fix the bugs then let us have some FUN while he makes the SERIOUS version of the game. Go ahead, tell me how I'm wrong etc, I really don't give a fuck. Me: I'm going to presume that this mod was for developmental purposes, design practices or perhaps just fundamentals. Getting an idea and how to approach the standalone. In my mind it was a quick prototype, much like major studios use tools such as Unity3D to quickly prototype their design and get investors. However, using your own logic and moving a bug-ridden mod to BETA knowing that it is "unfixable" as you say, is ridiculously stupid. You are clearly a close minded simpleton. By adding more things - he can in real time test them and see how they either add to or take away from his overall plan for the game. If you didn't give a fuck, you wouldn't feel the need to reply. :) Your psyche is already known, you don't have to keep re-iterating that you don't care. You: I'm not trashtalking the competition... I'm fed up with the (99%, there are some of you I love and adore!) dickhead community that fills this jackass shit-hole up... and the frustration is bleeding over to the dev team who take a month to release a patch that breaks more shit than it fixes... IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! Me: I didn't say you were trashing the competition, perhaps you're mixing me up with another post. I will agree that 99% of this community is retarded and should lose their internet, and I agree the community is making it harder to fix bugs realistically. You: Also, I'll PM you some stuff you can check out, if you like. Me: OK, I would enjoy that. You: I have an almost fully working 3D engine with realtime day/night lighting cycles... you do understand that, before you have something to "show" you have to make the thing that drives the graphics... IE the engine, right? In simpler terms: None of the math has pretty pictures actually attached to it yet. Me: It wasn't my argument that you had things to show, it was your argument that you had a 90% bug-free ALPHA. Which implied you had a 90% bug-free ALPHA of your game, not of your engine. You should've clarified that from the beginning, not my fault. Implications are a bitch. You: You don't have to like me... I'm not forcing you to. I'm the nicest person you'll ever meet outside of a place like this. So infuriating reading the absolute SHIT you people post about each other, claiming you have some special fucking right to treat others like utter garbage. Me: I don't like you because you claim to be something you're really not. You are who you have shown yourself to be on this forum, the other person, in real life, is just a face you show to people because you're a coward. I do agree with you though, the crap I see people post on this forum is aggrevating. However, you have no seen anything from me. The majority of my posts (finally registered tonight, after weeks of reading) have been directed at you.
  10. I understand, show me. :) You said 90% bug-free ALPHA, but you have nothing to show? Just some concept art? LOL, too funny. You remind me of my friend Will, he's been coding a few years now, and thinks he's the most elite person to ever write some logic.
  11. If you're a game developer, what company do you work for? What titles have you worked on? You're acting like the rest of the immature whiny little brats on this forum. I can't imagine any company hiring such a whiny asshole, I guess you hide it well in person. Generally, ALPHA testing is kept in-house for this very reason, whiny little girls such as yourself make it harder by rushing things and not understanding what an ALPHA is. You were right with a couple points in your post, ALPHA is for adding features, but you left out a couple crucial points. ALPHA is for adding features, testing those features and fixing known bugs from your integration testing. However, you are failing to understand what that really means. Adding features generally means breaking other features. Sure, you could always be more strict on what you're doing and unit test properly (still breaking things along the way, for the testers to find), but when you have hundreds of thousands of people rushing you, you tend to get a bit sloppy. I guess you haven't felt the urge of hundreds of thousands of people with your almighty game, so while you may be a game developer, you have no idea the impact he's feeling to get things done. That being said, the game engine itself is generating the massive artifacts people are seeing and quite a few of the other bugs posted, not his mod (which is probably part of the reason they decided to go standalone). A big time game developer who's as smart as you should understand that, and actually know how to fix those artifacts. It doesn't take a genius to fix it yourself without the dev team holding your hand, it took me less than 5 minutes (after seeing the artifacts at an airstrip) to find and fix the problem for myself. The game is not even nearly unplayable, you are exaggerating like a little kid. I feel bad for any company you work for. It would suck to have such a whiny useless person on my team. However, I'm glad that your ALPHA is 90% bug-free, and at 100% bug-free you will label it a BETA. At which point you will release it to your Q/A department or a controlled public to find the rest of the not so apparent ones, as any software developer would. Your idea to move DayZ to BETA is just about the dumbest idea I've read on this forum, that would defeat a major role of an ALPHA. The ALPHA is for adding features and fixing all of the apparent bugs, BETA is for finding the rest. This is why games are generally released in BETA stage and not ALPHA.. They know about the ones in ALPHA, not the ones in the BETA. Once again, a bad ass game developer such as yourself should know this about the SDLC. Anyway, I'm done with this topic. It's useless talking to people like you.
  12. Hey smart guy, what do you think an ALPHA test is? DEVELOPMENT TESTING. We are the testers, you retarded asshole. I'm sure his changes worked for HIM and the computers he tested on. All of you whiny bastards need to shut up. If you can't handle testing a game, and waiting weeks or months for fixes, go away and play a completed game. It's that simple. Jesus Christ. All of you feel so entitled as if you're someone special, or know something more profound than the rest of us. You're some ungrateful little brats. I'm going to presume most of you are 12 and have no idea what an ALPHA test is. This is an unfunded small team of developers, they don't have all the computers in the world to test the many many many different configurations out there. They have no idea it's broken for you, until your dumb ass plays it and says something. If you were mature enough to report a bug properly, instead of whining like little girls, perhaps they'd get fixed faster. No one wants to read through endless posts of cry baby rants to find one key bit of information. Bugs or not, this game is awesome, and I look forward to playing it for sometime. Fixing bugs, specifically in game design, is not an easy task. You rushing him to fix shit by TOMORROW or NEXT WEEK is unrealistic, as it may take him that long to find the culprit code, and then that long to even come up with a fix. If you're all so bad ass and have so many great ideas and think you can write bug free code, go pick up a programming language and get to work. Otherwise, act mature, post positively and properly, and help the game get made. YOU ARE AN ALPHA TESTER, NOT AN ENTITLED CUSTOMER. Grow up. Have a nice day.
  13. Even though I just got the game and managed to gather some alright gear, wiping wouldn't be too bad of an idea. Perhaps I could finally find a friend to group with who would benefit from having back up. Right now it seems like everyone is geared and just wants to kill me.

    Back to 1.7.2.4 I guess...

Fix for the artifacts (Win7): Open Documents > ArmA 2 > <YourUserProfileName>.ArmA2OAProfile in a text editor. Find sceneComplexity=500000; Set it to sceneComplexity=100000; Your artifacts should go away. Less crying, more problem solving. K thanks.
