It's persisting long enough for me to make a frownie face... :( -

Haha. Indeed it is not like that at all. But darn those low spawn percents! -
Combat logging: Am I guilty or innocent?
Travis31 replied to Travis31's topic in New Player Discussion
The community is speaking quite negatively of me. :) The scorn too, of being told that the game is not for me. At very least, this thread has helped bolster my confidence to hold onto a tense situation at least a little longer. It's easier to be a sniper, holding out in one position, compared to a sort of mexican stand off It sounds like you had the high ground like i did, as well, but also the element of surprise. I suppose the lesson you're trying to embolden me with is something along the lines of "If you have the high ground, wait and use it" eh? I unfortunately didn't have the element of surprise and that is what ate at me. -

Indeed. The sway of high value, close proximity loot targets and hopping between low populations servers was a temptation i gave into a time or two before, as well. >_> I've been from the coast to the NW airfield 3 times already though; so does that justify my server hopping at all? It was all to get my friend a ghille! >w< (I realize i'm 100% guilty of server hopping; now it's just a matter of rationalizing the bad feelings away, eh? >_>) -

It's not the gear i'm necessarily attached to, it's the time it would take to gather it all back up. I suppose that's practically the same thing though, eh? -
Combat logging: Am I guilty or innocent?

This makes sense. Of course we can never truly know what is going on in other peoples heads (but guess at it through the fallacy of false attribution), but we will our own. You're right; i did not go into that building to log off. This is probably why although I felt justified somewhat, I also felt a little dirty. Someone mentioned that I used the ghosting fear as an excuse to do this. That's only partly true; the way i justified it was me having the high ground. I would see a head long before a rifle followed. The ghosting was the catalyst; it was the combination of needing to act and being unable to do so save sit and wait, backed into a corner as I was. I still feel like it makes sense, though, that at some point, this will cross from 'combat logging' to legitimate logging. But I at least know your opinion is that that point will never come. -
Zombies are spawning much to fast. Clearing areas makes no sense - they respawn like in an arcade game! Very unrealistic. This must be changed.
Travis31 replied to Kingsix (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
My opinions on this are nuanced. I think some areas might normally have a higher zombie count normally, but also agree that going through an insane firefight because of constantly respawning zombies are you're pinned down in a building is both authentic and frustrating. It would be nice if you could be rewarded with a lull that lasts more than just 10 seconds (else the newly spawned zombies would just be arriving with the rest, eh?) -
Combat logging: Am I guilty or innocent?

Tricky situation makes it sound like I gave up on something I could not win. I had the high ground. Nothing short of a well placed grenade or cheating could have ousted me. Perhaps if they'd gotten on the hill west of the western 2 story one, but i don't even know if he'd be able to see me from there. I guess realistically it might help to talk more about how long I should have waited before being allowed to log off. Because demanding i stay logged in indefinitely until killing or being killed by the other player is very roman Colosseum-esque. -

I get that too. I made an assumption based off griping I've seen on the board. He could have been straight legit, waiting for me to exit. But realistically, I was not going to exit that building. I had 5 water bottles and 4 food. I wasn't going to exit the building any time soon. Nor did I log off quickly; I waited a good 2-3 minutes, 1 whole minute without hearing anything. There has to come a point when 'not combat logging' gives way to 'GO PRONE AND WAIT: THE GAME!" I readily admit I wasn't going to wait there all night, nor do i think anyone would demand i do so. Right? -

Travis31 replied to Travis31's topic in New Player Discussion
I just couldn't help but think what i'd do if i wanted to cheat or play unfair in the other person's shoes. It'd be easy to log in on one of the side rooms, and the lean around the corner and pop me one. Hell, there might have even been someone there already, frozen in fear like i was too. There is no doubt that there was some cowardice in my action. But bravery is not waiting in a room watching staircase all night either. -
2 minutes is long and fair for people abusing the disconnect, but what about people kicked from game because of ping? kicked in general? Instead of having different sets of rules, it might just be easier to have a shorter, global count down. I think 30 seconds would be a bit on the long side, but 10 seconds of a target standing still? That should be plenty to finish off a cheater, eh?

I do have the trinity. And a tent in the woods with like 15 blood bags and 25 morphine. Just hoping i'd find a ghillie. My bud was bummed (and a bit frustrated) at being killed by a zombie thru the wall. And i'd only just given him the ghille. I was thinking i might let him borrow my M4A3 CCO; it's the best gun I've used so far; and I've only used about 5 guns lol. I was thinking i'd let him feel how sweet it is and broaden my horizons a bit. -

Haha, yea, probably. This is my longest living character, and it's probably still a chump compared to most. Trying to hold my own a little longer, if possible, without dying to cheap tactics. -

Haha. That would have been glorious. Even moreso if i'd have won. But the entrance/exit stairs to the apt is soooo open. I'd have been a sitting duck. Or rather, running around like a turkey with its head cut off, eh? -

This is my thought. I feel dirty, but somehow also justified. Besides, it's not my job to stay logged in just because i hear shots. Hell, i don't even know if they were aimed at me, but i know the other guy sure as hell heard the 6 shots i squeezed killing the 4 zombies that waltzed their way up into the apt. -

But what if they were ghosting? Is it really patience to watch the one entrance, knowing I would win in a fair fight, only to have someone log in behind me or into one of the side rooms? I suppose that's true. If i'm intentionally server hopping like this, eh? You would suggest finding one server and always playing on that one server then? -

My thought was #55 had something to do with logging out and logging in or something (Ghosting some people call it, eh? To sneak up behind someone like a ghost, before materializing on the ACTUAL server?) I'm just not sure what happened or how i can fix it. D:
