I remember the last time I went backpacking -- I needed to switch out my compass for my knife, so I sat down, dumped the entire bag out on the ground, and then sorted it all out so I didn't lose a single thing. It took two hours to repack it all, but man it was worth it! The backpack/inventory system is cringeworthy.

Bump.... I also posted on dayz.reddit.com about this. I'm on day 2 of learning DayZ, and lost a 2-3 hour character due to this dumb shit. Pretty frustrating for a newbie.
