Ah the good old internet gaming cafe swiz. No, you cheated...bye.
-
There are no hackers in Dayz, just children copy and pasting scripts, better known as "script kiddies"

Just run about and collect the stuff you need. No point sneaking when you have nothing. I generally only give a shit when I have a decent gun and NVG. Anything else can be got in an hour or so. ...and yeah, the very best place to get loot is badly hidden camps.
-
sprint everywhere, it is so easy to lose agro that it's pointless to sneak.

Do you keep to the easy to find weapons or rare weapon's?
Astaa replied to ocelot07's topic in New Player Discussion
I tend to find a lot of AK ammo at firestations. My current weapon of choice is an AK Kobra. Ammo isn't as hard to find as some of the other weapons but there is plenty to be found, I rarely run out of ammo and only really use it when things go a bit south. Edit, the STANAG ammo is useful for quite a lot of guns, if you have the bag space then keep it. I do like the Enfield though, it kept me company for a long time before I dared go North -
possible fix to infinite loading screen
Astaa replied to BTRIC3TM's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yeah, it's much better. Still get it now and again but nowhere near the frequency that it happened before. -
Just run around, collecting them all up and then run into a two door house and out the back. You can then move on to the building you want to loot in relative safety.

ATTENTION: Fix for Six Launcher users regarding new patch
Astaa replied to Zambeezee's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Seriously. Just delete 6 launcher and use DayZ Commander, it's leagues ahead. -
Easier to go North and rob peoples camps.

Yeah. The whole point of ArmA is military simulation. The scripting is so that people can design their own scenarios, spawn things in on the fly etc. Setting up a battle basically. It's a side effect of using the ArmA engine...hopefully the stand alone will be locked down a lot more.

DE 1250 ADMIN ABUSE: Kicking + banning players without reasons
Astaa replied to Tomba's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Just tried to join (without even seeing this thread) kicked straight away. -
I found one in a tent, had a lot of fun with it until some script kiddie killed everyone on the server.
-
I don't think server admins should be able to global ban players, simply because there are too many douchebag admins. They should have better tools to report players though. I also have no problem with people passwording their servers. If it stops the script kiddies then surely it's a bonus?
-
The problem is that if you ctrl+alt+delete and quit out, half the time you end up spawning on the beach again...

Limiting Hacking through Encouraging Hacking

How about, no? -
While the forum mods seem to be closing any thread that seems to discuss false bans I would like to post this anyway... I was watching a few vids on youtube and decided to install Fraps. I used Fraps pretty much from when it was released and miraculously remembered my log-in password from years ago...yes I may be one of the few people on the planet that actually paid for it! I used to make the odd video from dark age of Camelot (an old school MMO) and remembered that the file size was huge when recording, so before recording properly I thought I would get it set up properly. I had logged off last night near the north eastern dam so logged on just to test some fraps settings, trying to keep the file size low but the quality high. Anyway. I logged on to one server and started recording for 30 seconds, stopped fraps and logged off. No problems (except for the file size!) I played around with a few fraps settings and rejoined another server. I instantly got a pop up message saying "Global ban" Knowing I am not cheating I decided to try again, different server no problems - I even got the fraps file down to less than 500mb for 1 minute! I am now a bit confused. Am I banned (for no reason whatsoever) or not? I have logged on to a couple of server since and it seems to be fine. I am just a little worried now that I will end up banned over the weekend for no reason. Do battle eye even know wtf they are doing? What on earth is going on...can we have some sort of clarification as to whether they know their arse from their elbow? Is there a problem with their software? Can they actually detect cheaters? (evidence suggests they can't!) are legit players getting shat on because of battle eye's incompetence? Are they going to sort their shit out for the stand alone release? As far as I can tell, rampant cheaters are allowed to get away with cheating but honest players seem to be getting kicked in the nuts. Not at all impressed... And before the bedroom warriors get themselves all excited. No, I really didn't cheat...if I did I would be a far more successful DayZ player than I am! I get scared easy in the woods and towns are a nightmare, the one time I did find a chopper (day 1 into the game, hindsight - clearly a hacked chopper) I crashed it within 20 seconds of taking off - after a good 5 minutes of working out how to get it off the ground! I am not and have never been a cheat, I don't even use cheats in single player games! Anyway, pissed off and more than a little drunk. Lets see what tomorrow brings...
-
...It seems it was just a spurious message. I have just tried a few servers and I could get on without any problems. Apologies for the anger but I don't like being accused of cheating by the game when I know I am not :)
-
Thanks for the links. I read about the mistaken bans but thought it has all been sorted out. All of the above happened within the last hour or so. It seems their fix hasn't quite fixed it all. As for my meaning in the first part of the post, I was looking for an existing thread to post this in, rather than starting a new one but found they had all already been locked...

Zombies are no real threat. Avoid them, no point killing them. Kill everyone you see, chances are they want to kill you, also, they might have beans. Avoid everyone, go north and rob their camps. Blame everything else on Darwin, the weak lose.

Server were players don't pvp and actually survive together
Astaa replied to Synapse's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The game would become pretty pointless if it was just zombies imo, they are easy to avoid and easy to kill from distance or to set a killing ground. The threat of death is what makes the game fun, the constant tension is something I haven't had in a long time in a game. It makes you stop and think how you are going to approach situations, rather than running about not caring. -
Should there be Bosses and dungeons in new standalone?
Astaa replied to Darky1307's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds shit. No. Sewers/bunkers would be cool though but with the same set up as up top, zombies, gear etc. -
You could tap the left and right cursor buttons to dump, like you used to do in sports games. The faster you press them the more you bear down on it. A whole new sub-game!

US 1485 Banned for flying the helicopter.
Astaa replied to kobolt's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
To be fair to the admin, there are so many hackers about I would imagine that they generally just assume that someone flying around in a hacked chopper must be a hacker. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. They pay for a server and allow other players to use it, they are fighting a constant battle against copy/paste script kiddies who think they are clever for ruining the game for everyone else. For the most part their hands are tied, they can't perma ban and they have very limited tools available to them to deal with the constant barrage of vermin infecting DayZ . All they can do is ban people from their server, the script kiddies will just go to another server and a few hours later more little shits turn up and they have to go through the whole process again and again and again. I am surprised they don't all just jack it in, where would the legitimate players be then? Do people even understand that the servers are paid for??? (around £50 a month afaik) In this case it seems the admin just kicked you from the server when they could have either got you killed or perma banned you from their own paid for server. If you didn't hack the chopper then just put it down to bad luck, you happened to find a hacked chopper and had a couple of hours fun in it. If you did hack the chopper then you should just crawl under whichever rock you came out from under and leave the rest of us to enjoy the game. They have even said that they are willing to compensate you for any loss that you may have incurred (which I total up to a grand total of nothing) which they absolutely don't have to do. Anyway, in short, wake up and realise that the admins, for the most part are decent people who are paying for us to be able to play the game, a totally thankless task. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule but to be quite honest this one comes across as a pretty decent person who has gone out of their way to explain their actions to you when they could have just told you to bugger off. -
Can people please stop telling them how to play again? They are ruining this game and it would be a far better place without them.
