Well i think Im finally ready to head North!
Osaka (DayZ) replied to Mark88's topic in New Player Discussion
Food and water is no issue. You'll get through various little villages that are usually loaded with snacks. or find a water bottle you can recycle. NWA is either crowded with bandits, already looted, and usually a lot of zeds around. The last time I got there I think all of them were there. And somehow no good weapon. I found a revolver, that's it. Someone probably just ninja'd through there, got all the goodies and left. So if it's empty for you, head to the west part of NWA, the barracks there usually hold a few good items as well. If that is tin can littered as well, then just head out into the woods, and come back another time, or switch servers, that usually helps the chance of loot. Also, you might want to find a map somewhere, those are extremely handy to have. -
It Sounds Like It's Not Even About Zombies
Osaka (DayZ) replied to FanboyHunter's topic in New Player Discussion
I think it's because zombies only are a threat to new spawned players. If there were only zombies in the game, it will get boring pretty quickly. The tension of having to watch your back every damn second is nice in a way. With zombies only, walking through Cherno is like a vacation. Just whistle and loot like a boss while zombies are not even paying attention to you. With snipers trolling around you really have to watch the skies. So yes. Zombies are props. They bunny hop around like they are part of the wildlife, and are as exciting as killing a goat for meat. -
I think it's fairly wise to keep a list of legal weapons with you. If you see a weapon that is not in the DAYZ mod legally, you'll see it, and avoid it like the plague.

Farthest distance you have crawled with broken legs?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to daspope's topic in New Player Discussion
I took about 45 minutes crawling my sorry ass corpse back to Elektro. I derped once, and broke my leg while out of morphine at some barn, Zeds got my leg and luck was against me, but I forgot which one. I crawled south over the fields and ended up north of Elektro. So probably a barn north of Elektro. I decided to take the careful approach, and avoided any contact, and waited for nighttime so i could easily crawl pass any Zeds, I made it to the hospital, got morphine, and ofcourse quickly got some more for later. Then I legged it straight out again, because I heard gunshots and didn't have anything good on me but a 1911 and a Lee Enfield. It was day 3 or so, and I still live, I'm on Day 8 now, not making that mistake again. -
Not afraid. Because it's just a game. However, it's not like COD where you respawn with everything, and once the round is over you "die" anyway. You scavenge, and keep yourself alive. The longer you are alive, the more precious your life becomes. If you hit day 7, packed 100% and have all that nice gear, then you'll think twice before rushing in. If you die and respawn all is lost. But then at least you'll rush into Elektro to try your kamikaze skills. Because nothing is lost if you die then. You have nothing, you lose nothing. That's how I see it.

Us 1544 banned after shooting at admin. (wall hacks) appranetly
Osaka (DayZ) replied to AntiRob's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
"edit" I read the rules regarding being an admin and owning a server. I understand why, but there should be a an easier way for admins to defend themselves from liars who claim to be banned from servers for things that admins are not allowed to do, but in reality are simply hackers. -------------- It must be hard to own a public server. These rules are awkward. How does a server admin have to bow down before anyone at all? If an admin chooses to ban over a nerdrage, then so be it, choose another server. How can it be that every admin has to fight every damn ban he gives out to prevent being blacklisted and the entire server being rendered null to anyone playing on it? Hackers should be dealt with, and admins should act adult when shot in the head. If you want to be a player among the players, expect to be best in combat. What are these threads, they scare me even more to play DAYZ at all. What if I end up killing someone who happens to be an admin? Ofcourse I can LOL and pick a new server, nobody cares right? But how is it possible that admins have no control over their own paid server? How is this possible that some whiny little jerk can take down an entire server by just posting here? It's in the rules? Admins cannot ban hackers who are thought to be hackers, chat about hacking and are banned before they do any damage. It seems to me that hackers have a much easier life than Admins. Admins constantly need to provide proof, whilst a hacker only has to lie about it. just my worried two cents here. -
Currently, and usually, at least 3 or 4 bandages at all times, all but one in backpack 2 Morphine, of which one in backpack 1911 and clips, usually 3 or 4 at hand, shotgun primairy, sniper-rifle or crossbow in backpack. And always 2 food (usually steak) and 2 drinks with me. Whenever I find food or drinks I can't carry I use them regardless of the need, and swap them. My toolbelt is always full of things I probably don't need, but also a hatchet for getting woodpiles as it doesn't take space in your toolbelt I might as well carry it along. Binoculars ofcourse, I'm still searching for better ones though, haven't found any yet. I also don't have the GPS yet. I wonder where I might get some the easy way.

There's a whole big difference between saving your own ass by killing whoever is trying to kill you, and actively hunting people for no good reason. There should be a slight difference there.

Omfg!!!! No game makes your heart beat like this one.
Osaka (DayZ) replied to DazTroyer's topic in New Player Discussion
Dealing with Zeds is not nearly the only thing to watch out for. Zeds are practically environmental annoyances compared to the wars going on in the cities. I almost feel sad for them, being completely ignored. -
DayZ blood packs in the north?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to Darkkis (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Your safest bet is to get your hunting equipment. each steak gives 800 blood. so to get back to 12000 you need a max of 15 steaks, and that's nearly two cows. Take your time picking off animals. camp out for a while and be healthy again. You'll need a hatchet, or find woodpiles, and a huntingknife and matches. A hunting knife is really common in houses and industrial sites. Matches are a bit rare, and usually found in a house or supermarket. Or you can risk getting bloodbags, and finding someone honest enough to help you, as bloodbags can only be transfused by someone else. -
game crashes "Bad serial number given in setup" w/pic
Osaka (DayZ) replied to TIZZLEBABY's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
As said before, you need to run the original games first through steam, and if you desire, create a player where you adjust your in game name, and looks, then run DAYZ. Steam can only activate the game if you run it at least once. -
3 hacked games wtf is this garbage?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to Big Red Husker's topic in New Player Discussion
I had NO hackers yet. I've been playing for about 2 weeks now and died about 3 times. Maybe it's just bad luck you guys seem to have? I play on EU servers because of the favourable pingtimes, but I read a lot of agony here about people being hacked constantly. WTF is up with that? -
I suppose this calls for a trade server. If someone sets up a server where there are no zombies, spawned loot and no friendly fire, and a central point where people can go to trade, that would be awesome. Maybe some offer/accept trading window... and all in a closed room, like a large warehouse with a closed off terrain, so no nobody can "escape" to a point they desire, switch servers, and get going. Just an idea.

So I have a tent and I can cook meat...
Osaka (DayZ) replied to cindyanne1's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't use a tent. Maybe for emergency gear like surplus food and drinks for whenever I get killed, and need an easy start. But then again, everyone can loot the tent, which in turn is understandable. Tents are not very hard to break into. However, if you want your stuff to stay your stuff, then hide the tent in a place where nobody goes to. -
The Solution to Hacking
Osaka (DayZ) replied to lukepeterhodgson@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The best way to avoid hackers is to get rid of hackers. These hackers should be IP banned, machine banned and account banned. This cannot be undone, and it is a lifetime ban. -
They are banned for life, there is no unban appeal for hacking, so you better start finding new friends, the hackers are dead until they throw away their CD-key and buy a new one.

I've seen this Blue marker on some servers, it's not default. Also I haven't gotten a GPS yet, and I did see myself on the map. It's convenient , sure, but I rather have a realistic map, which is just a piece of paper with no location markers on it. The blue marker should only be visible when you have the GPS as well. I like to force myself not to look at the marker, but that's impossible... and just figure out where I am the traditional way. It's more fun to me. I wish there was a way to force the marker off clientside, and give myself that handicap.

If you know a player is hacking, or just have a slight hunch, by, for example, he has a weapon you can't possibly have naturally spawned, and kill the hacker, then just move up to him, hide the body, and just let it be. Don't loot him.
-
Vengeance makes you blind. If you are going to shoot people, because other people are shooting you, you end up being shot by a calm focused sniper simply waiting out on a hill for hours and hours until they finally see someone. The only ones you can trust are newly spawned players who are unarmed. They might backstab you once they find a weapon, but as long as they don't have any, they couldn't kill you even if they wanted.

Graphics issue - only near Airstrips?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to M4RT3's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
These are probably the artifacts. these occur because of texture problems. The DayZ Alpha status is to blame I suppose, and there are a few things you can do that help me. Whenever you get these "warp speed" like flashes, try to disable anastrophic filtering and post effects. That helps for me. If that doesn't work I quit the game, and restart it. usually the errors are gone because of ..... unknown reason. I suppose these get fixed in the future, but are caused by glitching textures. sometimes from dead bodies, or barbed wire. Switching servers might also help. -
beans delivered.

Zeds are the zombies, those growling human like things chasing you after you get to close to them.

i'm new and i get killed by everyone, even when i say FRIENDLY PLAYER in the chat screen.
Osaka (DayZ) replied to Gert-Jan's topic in New Player Discussion
@OP Humans can be nasty. Just whenever you spawn, avoid the cities. Go straight up north, and find a weapon. A hatchet is the best choice to start with, and they are everywhere. Just take your time, and scout villages for food and drinks to stay healthy. There are various places to get better weapons, but then again, going back to the city only gets you killed. The cities are a warzone, everything that moves is shot. I personally took to wandering away from populated places. Zeds are enough of a problem to deal with on their own. -
Run Arma 2 and the addon version once, exit, and try again, this is also in the instructions for Steam users.

I haven't got a vehicle myself yet, except for a bicycle, but I saw videos of Zeds punching vehicles, and even destroying it. So yes, they'll attack it and eventually destroy it, but why would you let them? Punch it and take off elsewhere. No need to hide inside a broken car, right?
