Are Choppers needed in DayZ?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Helicopters are difficult to find, and once you do they require a ton of parts and fuel. They are easy targets. They have more disadvantage than you think. They're just another hard to get toy. Keep them. I'd rather have the hacks fixed, and added waterplanes. -
the one thing that will stop me buying the standalone
Osaka (DayZ) replied to WhipDiddyWhip's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I will definitly buy standalone when and if it comes out. I bought Arma2, and it happens to have a mod on it called DAYZ. But once DAYZ becomes a standalone game, you cannot expect it to be free just because you have Arma2. -
And this is why I don't bother with anything but PvP
Osaka (DayZ) replied to sostronk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well I find it cool to hide my things. It adds reality to the game. You can't guard your crap all the time, you need to sleep sometimes. And real life bandits like to rob your ass once you sleep. Less risk, less problems. Whenever I find a random tent "hidden" in the forest, and nobody is around, yeah sure I'll loot whatever I like to have. Yesterday on a server I foudn two tents and a working ATV "hidden" in a forest. I got a nice pack of ammo for my M4 and an ATV to boot. I stole a coke while I was at it, but left a bloodbag and a morphine as a consolation. I needed a few slots free in my backpack anyway. might as well give them that loot. I might have saved their lives as they dragged their broken legs back to their tent, and found medical supplies instead of ammo. At least they'd got back on their feet without risking to get medical supplies from a dangerous place. I'm a goodie goodie, but I will rob your ass if I need to. Thanks for the ATV though. -
It would be funny though to turn off despawn of dead players/zombies altogether, but keep respawn on. Cherno would be pretty crowded with dead bodies after a few days.

Good luck fellow medic.

Did I get hacked? WTF happened?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can't feel sorry for bandit snipers... nope. Just laying out in the bushes sniping unwary players all day? I'd rather get lol-hacked into the air and fall to my death. Because at least then I probably have a good laugh. Getting sniped out of nowhere is not even funny. I'm dead either way, and neither care about the loot. -
Are dogs worth 2 months of development time?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to MasterSith's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think dogs would be annoying. I don't want an AI to look after, and have me facepalm all day because they aggro every zombie around me by rushing after every single one of them. I don't want to share my already low supply of food and have a barking idiot next to me all day when I try to be stealthy. I never liked AI companions because for some odd reason they always do what I don't want them to do. -
Nice to see a friendly face
Osaka (DayZ) replied to FLMedic Doc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am generally very careful about approaching anyone holding anything that can be used as a weapon. Most survivors that crawl around because they broke a leg, are still capable of killing you. Even if you are a medic, they cannot see that. I really wish that Hero skins, or medic skins would be more obvious. A hero just looks like another survivor to me. Usually when a survivor is obviously hurt I try to speak on voice that I'm a medic. Just yell out "I'm a medic, I will heal you" or "friendly friendly". The last one doesn't always work, I got my good deal of bullets up my ass after waving around bloodbags or morphine at people. I would even aid bandits, but they let you fix them up and they usually just kill you afterwards for your stuff. So I try to avoid helping bandits at all. Luckily you can easily see who is a bandit and who is not. A lot of people here on the forums get scared with stories about people who try to be friendly and now turned bandit because they got raped a few times too often. Being shot at doesn't help being friendly. But don't shoot first and ask questions later. If you don't trust it, avoid it :) Since I only trust people with broken bones I managed to stay alive for a while now. -

I'd rather be in a coma than in a comma. Less painfull. -
Best fix ever. Have some beans.

Tents are a bit of a problem for me. I like to keep my important stuff with me at all times. I don't loot things I don't need. I once found a tent somewhere that had 6 or so maps in it, along with a truckload of matches and things like that. It's probably handy to have instant full gear once your killed. But come on, seriously? The best way to hide a tent is probably in the middle of absolute nowhere in a forest under a pine tree. But will you be able to find your own tent? For survival I do the hermit act. Just stock up and drift along the map. This is also handy if you want to switch servers once in a while. My favourite server sometimes tends to be completely empty. How I made it alive so far? Stay out of trouble. And to be safe, get medical supplies from Berezino. Nobody ever goes there.

"Rocket Said..." post resurrected *updated 8/8*
Osaka (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I suppose creating a standalone game is hard work, and Rocket might actually have a social life. Coders rule of life: Never set deadlines you cannot make. It just creates false hope. -
I wish the hero model was an option between a survivor with better camo clothing, or a medic outfit. I'd go for the medic gear. Survivors who are friendly, and in need could easily recognize you as one.

Entered A Church with -6548 Humanity, Left with 0 ?
Osaka (DayZ) replied to Raged's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Never tried that. But if you want to be a bandit, better avoid churches then. -
does anyone even use sub-machine guns?*added poll*
Osaka (DayZ) replied to t3hnoob's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm still pondering which sidearm is the best here. I like the 1911 because it's powerful, but the G19 with flashlight attached is a boss at night. Sure the M4A1 CCO will solve all your problems, but if you don't have nightvision goggles, then how do you navigate at night at all? I don't cheat with the Gamma/brightness settings to see at night, and roadflares or chemlights are stupidly annoying to use. So whenever I find a G19, I stick to it. -
Europeans eat a lot of weird things. frogs, snails, grasshoppers, etc. But seriously. Sure I prefer a nice juicy steak over any other meat. But if you're starving to death, zombies are lurking for your ass and you have only warm cans of cola, or water from a pond, then your morals become very low. You will eat anything available. It's about survival, not about how cute the animal is. Heck if I have nothing better I would hunt down a human and eat that. Food=food
-
Nope Dutch. And while horse meat is fairly uncommon here, you can actually buy this in any supermarket or butcher around here.
-
Yes, but it's not about the vehicle, it's about the fun.Try to ride a real bicycle onto a hill in soggy soil. I bet you a horse would do this a lot faster.
-
horseshoes might increase the health points of a horse, but will also make it louder. Customize your horse maybe? Ghillie suits for horses? Or maybe you can find a cart which you can let your horse pull? Great for merchants, or just to carry around more crap? Saddlebags would help.
-
Yes, having a horse would be epic. Just idle through the fields with the wind in your hair. And if anything decided to eat your brain, just gallop out of there. It's realistic too, There are other farm animals just randomly spread around the map. Russian farmers have horses too. It's only logical. But to make it hard to get, maybe barns and other farm building can have loot drops such as saddles in order to ride a horse. See it as vehicle parts. But I suppose riding a horse bareback would work, but you get a speed penalty or something. Or a saddle adds the ability to have another person riding along?

I'd say the airfields are the most dangerous to go to if there are snipers lurking. It's wide open view and perfect sniping positions make it very hard to come even close to without having to dodge .50 calibre rounds. Stary Sobor is my favourite looting area. Much places to hide from snipers, close combat. I think it's boring to be killed by people who aren't even near you at all. Since I usually camp out in the north east and north mid of the map, Berezino is my favourite vacation city. NOBODY goes there. Seriously. For looting this city sucks as it is widely spread. But whenever I need supplies and I'm near there it's just a shopping trip with some zeds annoying you. It's seriously a cake walk there.

Free bus and old bikes on US2461...
Osaka (DayZ) replied to sibexus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not even near there, and especially not going to now. How many snipers are camping there btw? probably all of them.
