Problem is, life has no value in DayZ, only gear does and if your taking someone prisoner then obviously you would confiscate their gear. -
Nope. In normal ArmA II any rifle is 70% of the time first round lethal on chest based on my observations. And pistols too are a lot more potent, the only gun that feels silly to sue is PP-19 bizon which takes 10 some rounds to kill a civilian...

Adrenaline Shots Added to Military Loot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epinephrine Epinephrine is adrenaline, and according to a site epi-pen contains 300mg of adrenaline aka epinephrine. And im no doctor but i think misusing adrenaline is dangerous. -
The idea is simple, landmines. You find a landmine, which should be pretty rare, then place it where you want it and when some poor fellow walks over it its off with him. For balancing purposes it could not be one hit kill, but instead say, break your bones and take 5000 blood. The kind of landmine i had in mind would not be a claymore but more like a russian non-directional mine. And as for realism, the Chernarussian government might have not signed the Ottawa treaty, might have them as available as they have american assault rifles and might have trained random civilians with backpacks to arm the mines.

A downside to smoking would be that the burning cig can be seen out to a few hundred meters during night.

RPG-7 would be of actual use as it has larger splash radius than the M136. And the russians have a .50 caliber sniper rifle too, called KSVK, which could be as rare as AS50.

IEDs with tripwires and such might actually make even more sense. And i mean anti-personnel mines.

This could be implemented when duping is fixed or even in the standalone, if we have a working anti cheat system then.

Some landmines "only" destroy your foot, while others shred you to pieces with hundreds of steel balls, the damage should be a balancing decision.

"tracking movement patterns" Way too complex, besides this clearly punishes a certain playstyle.

In my opinion, when you press R, you instruct your character to change the magazine and cock the gun if there is no bullet already in the chamber, breaking this up into multi-step process done by the player would do little to add serious immersion. As i think immersion comes from the big picture of being in a believable scenario having to do believable things.

The mortar could be good, currently in ArmA II there is a mechanic to disassemble a mortar to 2 parts, the tube and the plate, which can be reassembled of course, it takes a 2 man team to move a mortar efficiently.

DayZ has actually shown me how good ArmA II engine is for what it was meant for, combat simulator. Sure, it lacks eyecandy like cool animations but bottomline its good. -
@heli Shooting people in the head for giggles is okay but god forbid whiskey right? Besides operation arrowhead is already pegi 18+ rated, and i doubt the standalone will be made kid friendly.

How about landmines and signs to warn about them? If you think there are landmines in the are you will think twice about entering, for balance purposes they wouldnt be instant kill and they would not be invisible or have some kind of "IFF" system.

You just run the mod alongside dayz and there you have it, you also need a server runnig that mod though, someone who owns a non hive server should try it.

I fail to see how a potato is more lethal than a bullet.
