  1. SO... I just got my first player kill, and murder. I didn't want to kill the guy. Dammit there were only 2 of us on the server at this point. I never even thought I'd see another player. I decided to check out the Balota Airfield's control tower on my way out of the area, hoping to find some ammo for my AK mainly. I hear zombies aggro and turn to see a player walk in the door a few meters behind me. He had no weapons. I figured that I'd be nice and let him have anything he found in the airfield, so I just left. I turn around and scan behind with my binocs at the eastern tree line hoping to see absolutely nothing. There he is halfway through the clearing following me. I play alone, for now. I might play with friends later, but for now I'm alone. I just run away figuring he'll tire out or get the point, but no. I fired a warning shot over his head. He still follows. I shoot him in the gut to make my point. He just stops and bleeds. I even go as far as being nice enough to bandage him before I run away. In retrospect, I should have left him there to bandage himself or bleed out. He followed. I fire more shots in warning. He follows, then drops prone beside me and plays the 80's song "Somebody's Watching Me" in direct coms. I just run off be he keeps taunting, so I fire another couple shots, and he doesn't stop. I fire one more and ... OOPS. Headshot. +1 Murder. Humanity dropped to the 840's. Yay. I can't say that I really feel bad. Other than the fact that I had a brain fart and didn't say anything in chat (text I mean), I did give warnings and did what I thought would make it clear that I didn't want anyone following me or bringing unwanted attention to me. I'm pretty sure that the first shot would've been enough to warn me off. I guess the guy had no gear, so he had nothing to lose. Oh well. *edit: added a line that I meant to type but got sidetracked by TV.
  2. I think that dog humped your leg right before he asked for a kiss. edit: and then he said he was going to. lol
  3. Oh yeah. Seems totally legit.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

To answer the question about a buddy system: I am pretty sure Rocket recently said (on the same reddit thread) that there will be more stuff in-game for grouping up and playing with friends and so forth. The link should be on the OP. It answers a lot of questions that people continue to ask. *edited cause I gave incorrect location of the post I was referring to.

    DayZ at GamesCom

I was hoping for more news here, too. I guess that they don't have much new stuff to say right now. Could always check some of the gaming sites for news and interviews, I guess.
  6. I actually stopped once and thought about giving the guy a gun just to give him a hand, but as soon as I stopped he opened my bag without saying anything. That's when I gave the first warning. Shortly after, he was dead.

    An Apology

Is it ok that I think its funny that you killed somebody who was relatively geared-up with just a hatchet before they could even turn around? Cause it kinda is.

    Question about Skins in 1.7.2.5

Mine seemed to peak at 3250, but I had to kill a guy who wouldn't stop following me and drawing attention. My humanity lost over 2400 points. It also drops when you shoot somebody, I guess. I shot the guy once hoping he'd get the hint and my Humanity dropped by about 600 pts. I'm guessing that was the damage I did since it wasn't in a vital spot and I was using a lower powered AR. I'd rather avoid being a bandit, so I'm hoping it will go back up now that its below 1000.
  9. Eh, the guy didn't even have a hatchet, so I left him alone at first. I won't next time. Annoying little shits. I'll keep broken legs in mind from now on. ;)

    Night time on ALL maps?

dayzcommander uses the details in the server name for determining whether a server is Day or Night. Those details aren't always accurate, whether its on purpose or not, I don't know. All I know is a lot of the servers, especially US it seems, have the wrong UTC (or GMT) time offset. They may say +8 but they meant -8, or they may say +2 but its really -5. It is, unfortunately, kind of hit or miss.

I went there about a week ago with no problems. Maybe I was a lucky one.

    DayZ at GamesCom

I like the ability to track food, I guess. As a loner who's mostly just out there surviving, I'm not too interested in any PVP aspect of having a dog. What if a player is close and the dog barks to warn you, but the other player never even knew you were there in the first place? Also, do you have to find a new dog each time you die? They're an interesting addition, but I wouldn't say that they get my hopes up much. Does Rocket and the team have anything big they are planning to reveal at Gamescom? I wonder if they're holding back something good for the 1.7.3 mod update that we don't know about yet. "Yeah there's dogs. ... We also have this other really cool thing."
  14. I predict a loot Nazi will come destroy the tents so that everybody can't keep getting free gear. hah
  15. Ironically, I figured that I'd go check out the action at one of the tents, and I get stuck at the loading screen. Typical. Everything works when I am just messin around, but if I try to "mess around" with a purpose, "You shall not pass!"

How do you handle insane aggro?

If you're near a steep hill, zig zag your way up the hill. The zombies will have to walk slowly up the incline, but if you zig then zag at the right angles, you can still run or crouch-run. Once you get far enough away, drop down and crawl to one side or cross over a ridge and veer to one side or another at a crouch or crawl. Buildings like they said up there ^ are best for towns. Exit the building, go to one side or another and get some distance, preferably not running. Like Skirata said, you can loot the rooms of a house or corners of a building by running ahead of the zombies, since they can currently only walk indoors. Do it quick though, or they might catch up. Make sure you know what you have in inventory and where you'll put things so that you don't need to shuffle stuff around to fit it in your bag, etc. Try to get at least a hatchet ASAP. If you're in a house or building and a zombie(s) gets too close, you'll have the option to whack it (or the closest one) with the hatchet, then get out of there.

    Broken Bones... Story/Video

Its basically an indication of desyncing with the server. Its best to not do much when that happens.

Finding Nemo - Looking for someone?

I can't remember the server since this was a couple days ago, but I think it might have been DE75. Anyway, I was by Stary, working my way out of town to the north after looting a downed copter just to the southwest of the town. I ran through the long barn by the tents to make my way back to the hill. I hear shots and wait it out for a few seconds till I realize that they're to my right. I go left and high-tail it up the hill and prone by a bush. I take out my binoculars and immediately spot you, MrPink and your unknown partner. You weren't being as sneaky as you thought. You also weren't paying much attention outside of the immediate tent area, or you probably would have seen me working my way back to the tree line. I thought that I'd do you a service and let you know that you weren't quite as safe as you thought you were. You're lucky that I didn't have a sniper rifle, or I would have probably shot a leg out just to make a point. As it was, I took a shot just over your head with my FN FAL. I got some aggro for my efforts, but made my way back to the forest and dealt with the zeds. I go back to town to see if you got the point, only to find your buddy dead under a bush in his ghillie suit. Shame on you, MrPink. You let your partner die and just looted him and ran. Not even a thanks to me for letting you know how vulnerable you really were. After all I did for you. I sure hope you didn't turn on your pal, MrPink. That would make me sad that I didn't come closer and take you out first. In summary, MrPink, you should be a lot more careful when shooting near busy loot spawns. Somebody might be 30m away with a rifle aimed center mass. ;)

You know what makes Dayz so great?

I've had a few of those heart-stoppers, too. But I also have had a few of the others. Like the night I was down to 594 Blood after being cornered by four zombies while looting a shed and dying of hunger only to find a single can of beans after 2 hours of searching multiple villages. Five minutes later, I ran straight into a cow. Steak does a body good. Had a few hours without finding any food again last night. Just as I start losing blood, I spot a boar at the edge of the woods about 300m away. I go over there only to realize that I can't find it. More than 30 minutes later, I had given up and was about to just leave the area and try somewhere else when I turned around and tripped over the damn boar. I swear it must have been following me. Happy moments like that or finding two crashed helicopters in one hour with nobody else around are probably what keeps me coming back after frustrating deaths and so forth. I think the thrilling moments are fun, at least after the fact, but the good times are the ones that make me think, "Gotta go play more DayZ."
