I think this debate is rather big in terms of the direction of the game. part of me is wanting random traits on your char... some people are slower than others, some people need glasses etc... but would that make it enjoyable??? I'm not sure. on the otherside having choices to choose your profession and such skills is in fact a choice that we have IRL. but would this detract from the game??? I don't know... perhaps a skyrim type progression, that's completely invisible and works on repetition? ie- run faster, hunt more efficiently (better gutting = more meat) etc... all this could be do-able, also exploitable though... I'm up in the air on this one lol... ps good thread gambles! -
You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, well you might find... You get what you need... think about THAT!

then why post it in an open forum? isn't that the point, a response from other community members? and what of the non- carebears? they don't judge? if they approve of it, they have passed judgement as well... seems to me that you have some general misconceptions of what forums are and what judgement is. numbers of zombies in proportion to the size of the city. one just shouldn't be able to breeze through cherno or elektro. it should be a suicide mission. also, more items. not weapons so to speak (although a variety of melee weapons is sorely needed), but just more items that could influence how you end up surviving- ex. fishing poles, shovels (to bury items), a better food system where you would need a can opener, or have to boil water, or food items that might go bad, items to make barricades (hammer n nails n wood) etc... maybe rope to suspend a backpack in the air in a forest... in a sandbox, more items that can alter the environment the better. of course, spawn rates of said items are a different matter altogether. -

this is what you do. every time you get killed because you weren't careful enough- whether it be from running in a straight line, not using cover, trying to talk to chars with bandit skins- whatever the case may be, unzip your pants and snap the head of your pecker with a rubber band. Not like any rubberband, but like one of those medium-thick rubberbands. after a few of those, mistakes will be a thing of the past... -

I say yay. even if I sat down and played the standalone for just a day, I would consider the money well-spent, as very few games, if any, have been able to affect me on an emotional level while questioning my morality. oh, lol I think I got all teary-eyed playing Ico once...

ouch! share a personal experience on the internet, get judged, get a label... I should have known better. I guess you could call it creepy, others, perhaps the families that rely on that road for their livelihood or have had to bury their children because of an IED, would call it something else... but perhaps nostalgia was the wrong word. I meant that I like the m14 because I'm familiar with it IRL. I never enjoyed killing someone, no matter what the circumstance. that's why in dayz, I usually end up being the person getting killed when trying to help someone... for some reason, i tend to make choices in dayz as I do in real life. call it immersion or idiocy, either way I'm still loving the mod. -
embrace your infection! let the burning fever and insatiable cough motivate you to make that move, to take that risk- to survive... but next time, wear a condom...

^^this. (nice moustache btw) both m14's that I've come across were at crash sites. I guess I'm just unlucky... and to be honest, I like using the m14 mostly out of nostalgia, because that's what I used in iraq. Four of us went to a quickened version of sniper school in order to obtain identifiers before our troop deployed. then once we arrived, one of our missions was to sneak in and set up OP's along major routes in order to ID and eliminate confirmed insurgents planting IEDs. lesson: Don't bring a shovel to the roadside at night; its bad for your health... the M14 is reliable, has stopping power, range, and controlled fire- the best of every gun minus target saturation... but that's why you carry a 240B as well hehe... -

scavenging, helpful hero- a slight move speed buff and a little extra protection. a kos noob hunting bandit- faster opportunity for gaining equipment/weapons... I fail to see a punishment for playstyles here, just different incentives. but I didn't mean to interrupt. please bandits, continue to cry... -

yea I understand what he's saying, and I understand what you're saying, and if you two were the only people to play dayz I would agree. however, there are thousands of different players with different playstyles and interests in the game. by what right do you get to dictate how they should have to play the game based soley off your personal experience (perhaps a poll is in order to get a better number). coupled with the fact that its far easier to loot a sniper on elektro hill, find a 50cal in a dupe tent, or loot cycle the barracks or military tents, I think helicopter loot spawns are no cause for concern just yet. I'm fairly certain that the majority of players haven't even found one yet, or have even bothered to look for one. in the several that I've stumbled across, I have found one as50, one. though if you think that crash sites are far to common, there is nothing stopping you from hiding the weapons or letting your backpack eat them hehe... -

yea for serious, helicopter crash sites are just too plentiful. I mean like finding military loot at a crashed military helicopter??? fuck that! they should spawn peanuts and inflight magazines and if your lucky, I mean really lucky, you find a chicken cordon bleu dinner. but really seriously, just because you exploit the game by running the crashed helicopter loop, doesn't mean that its safe to assume everyone does. personal integrity seems to be even more rare than friendlys these dayz... -
