To be fair, if it was completely dark and you had no light source, you wouldn't be moving anywhere if you were smart (in reality that is). I'd say that makes it authentic. The only problem I have with it is that you can't utilize both of your hands, so you can't have the torch in one hand and a weapon in the other, like you could in reality.

Are you sure you're not crouched? I've never had any trouble seeing out of house windows while standing normally. It would be nice if the stances from arma 3 were put in though, with the addition of maybe standing on your toes to look over taller obstacles without revealing yourself completely. This would allow you to at least peek out of long grass every now and then.

It is not just the quick looting that made the team implement the 500 second timer. The main reason for it was the fact that spawning a geared player on a new server was and still is the most demanding thing that the central server has to do. If you switch servers, it bogs down the entire network. Rocket stated this yesterday on reddit. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/23tzhy/just_spent_a_few_hours_on_stable_here_are_my/ch0rhzj

Haha, absolutely brilliant! :D I have nothing against it, but I was just trying to come up with a way of maybe allowing players who don't want to see poop to have an alternative graphics option, or something along those lines.

Yeah. Implementing skins would be kind of pointless with the whole changeable clothing thing that the game has now. It would be a major step back in terms of character customization.

You know, one reason behind diarrhea is bacteria from the 'wrong' end of your intestines ending up contaminating your food. If you've ever had diarrhea, it might have been because your mom didn't wash her hands properly after taking a massive dump. Therefore, I'd say that shit has a lot to do with people getting ill. Diarrhea induced by drinking poop-contaminated water still kills a lot of people, especially children, in areas where nutrition and clean water are scarce, and defecating is supposed to make people think about where to poop if they want to survive. It is a survival sim after all. Also, who says that they have to intorduce an actual throwable poop model into the game. The game could just mark the area you pooped in 'behind the scenes' as being contaminated, and a slightly diminished version of the fly sound could start playing after a certain amount of time has passed (the one in the mod was way too loud).

Fair enough.

This is another flawed poll, because there is no option to not KOS (The 'other'-option does not cover it. It is asking for what other reason would you kill). That is my stance by the way. I never KOS. Never. If I see geared players that I don't know or players that are obviously bandits (not the same thing as KOS:er), I just tend to keep my distance.
-
If you don't want KOS, you'd be best off joining a community/guild that has an interest in the building/crafting mechanics that are going to be introduced later down the line, rather than PvPing. That's what I did. We are going to be frequenting a single server/few servers to build stuff and set up communities in towns, once that becomes possible.

In game video settings what do you use?
thesodesa replied to gianni001's topic in General Discussion
Post processing... Turn that shit off. It makes the game world blurry. -
The problem is that the people who RP bandits have adopted that term as well, so the word 'bandit' already has a meaning within the DayZ community that does not align with the KOS playstyle. Why not just be more descriptive and honest, and call yourself KOS:ers. That describes your playstyle better.

Weapons need to spawn with atleast 1 magazine in them.
thesodesa replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
This might be an issue right now, since PvP is the only thing you can do in the game, and guns need to be tested as well, but once more features are added see no issue with the situation being reverted to the current status. A side note: It might be that civilians store their guns with the magazines/clips either attached to the gun or right next to their guns, but at least where I come from, the military, once they put their guns into long term storage, separate the magazines from the guns. I noticed this when I was turning in my RK62 when leaving the army. -
'MURICA!

How does it work in practise. Do you need different buttons/button combinations for all of the stances, or do you simply "scroll" up or down with 2 buttons?

Any way to raid a military jail with armed people in it?
thesodesa replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
I agree with this when it comes to high tech explosives, but you should be able to craft simple, DIY explosives, or weapons that cause collateral damage in general, yourself though. A simple molotov would work pretty well in a situation like this. It might cause the guys upstairs to panick if they had no water or a fire extinquisher. I should mention though, that in a real situation like this, going up the stairs would not even be considered unless you could be sure that the targets were neutralized, or at least extremely disoriented, when you stormed the room. -
What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

One only lives so long. Theres the rush. ;) -
If I had to guess, the exact issue is probably, that the hitboxes are adjusted to the clothes, meaning that since e.g. a torso item covers the arms as well, the torso hitbox is also extended over the arms. The game doesn't seem to have specific hitboxes for arms at all. It's all torso, as far as the game is concerned. In a similar way, pants cover the entire legs, so the game doesn't differentiate between thighs and calves. If my previous statement is correct, fixing this seems to require the player characters to consist of more animated parts than they currently do, and that might cause performance issues. It's for this very reason that the zombie model was changed from the arma 2 model, which was indentical to the player model, that consisted of many separately animated parts, into consisting of only a single 'part'/section. Therefore this might not get fixed until they can improve the server performace even more.

In my opinion, the game pretty much has all the clothing items it needs. Maybe proper winter clothing is something that should be added if anything. Anyways, as long as things are done properly, the faster, the better, right? -

I did see it, but don't remember the specifics. It's been a few days, maybe a week, since I last fired up the game, and back then people were still posting pictures of soaked raincoats on reddit. -

thesodesa replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm less interested in specific clothing items. What I do care about is the fact that clothes still don'treally serve any purpose in the game. Raincoats, for example, still don't protect you from rain, and it doesn't really matter whether you walk around butt naked, because the health system isn't in place yet, and there's no way for you to get sick/damage yourself in any way from being too cold or hot. Heat stroke, anyone? -
The main reason is that Bohemia doesn't have enough staff dedicated to DayZ to be able to work efficiently on developing the game for multiple platforms at the same time. Triple A studios can have up to a 1000 people working on a single game. It makes more sense in general for a smaller developer to first develop the game on a single platform and then port it over to another, so as to avoid bugs and peformance issues that would arise from a hastily done port. There might also be an issue with the team's know-how, when it comes to the Mac/Linux architecture. As far as I know, Bohemia have only worked with Windows before.
-
This is the way to go if you're not interested in testing the game.

Looking back, Do you think that EA release was a good idea?
thesodesa replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
The only real risk with this project is that people will burn themselves out on the game before it is even finished, and that is up to the people themselves to manage. As Dean stated at his Rezzed presentation, the fact that so many people bought the game early means, that they now know that they can afford to spend more time developing the game and adding more features to it. Had they not chosen to go early access, they would probably not have been able to afford to hire the Cabela's Hunting Games-team to take care of the hunting aspect of DayZ, so at the same time early access has speeded up the development of the rudimentary features, that DayZ requires to become a true survival sim. There would also have been a factor of uncertainty as to whether DayZ was going to succeed, which might have been demoralizing for the DayZ team as a whole. This might have slowed the development even more. There would, lastly, also have been the issue of all these other survival games coming out, competing with DayZ. Since most of them seem to be crap, and plagued with the same issues DayZ is dealing with right now, people would probably have thought that DayZ is going to be no different, and they hype and enthusiasm surrounding DayZ might have died out. All I can say is, there appears to be no net negative impact for anyone in this particular case.
