Shouldn't this go in the private hive discussion section? It's not vanilla Dayz

What is „The Infection“? a definition (-approach)
thesodesa replied to joe_mcentire's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1. Crawlers could just have broken legs. The hoppers could however represent the more advanced stages of the disease vs walkers, who have just recently succumbed to the disease. 2. I'm not entirely sure they should be doing this. If the brain is decayed to the point where motor functions are hindered, operating a doorknob or a door handle could become an issue for them. Climbing ladders would also be rather challenging if motor control was reduced. 3,4,5,6: I'm advocating the idea that zeds should be able to go ballistic on anything that makes sudden movements (player/zed/animal running animation) or makes a lot of noise, even on each other, because the virus induces aggression in the infected individual and anything 'exciting' in the environment would cause a violent reaction . I think this would address any believability issues. Essentially the disease could be a type of rage inducing rabies. Check out the symptoms, virology, history and in other animals -parts of this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabies. I think it fits rather nicely and is consistent with the fact that the virus seems to affect nerve and muscle cells. 7. I don't think it would be necessary to differentiate between dying from hunger and dying from the disease, at least not on the code level(extra work for dev team and possible bugginess). But yes, they should die at some point, because they are not magical rainbow-shitting unicorn zombies, but infected living individuals. -
Here's an original idea! What if you could turn into a zombie after a zombie kills you?
thesodesa replied to kasigawa's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Rocket stated many times in the earlier video interviews done last summer, that the zombies in this game are not dead zombies, but infected living human beings, zeds. Therefore coming back to life as a zombie after dying doesn't seem to be an option. And yes, the fact that the zeds' brain functions have degraded to the point where they act like feral animals without the ability to formulate complex tactics pretty much prevents the idea of having player controlled zeds. -
First of all, you are going to be able to hunt for animals, and gather water from water sources. I hear this is going to be a pretty central mechanic to the game. Also, I'm still advocating the idea of players being able to discover a farm on the map that could be cultivated to produce their own food in large quantities. Of course the correct equipment would have to be found and fixed, like tractors, and the actual cultivators, etc. The farm would be hard to defend against bandits and zombies and possible predators like wolves and bears, but I was thinking that his would be one of those end game goals for larger groups of players.

Purposely contaminating lakes (SA)
thesodesa replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Soda is actually a diuretic, meaning it makes your kidneys pull water out of your blood because it increases the salt content of your blood dramatically (the body expends water to remove the salts and maintain a chemical balance). Therefore it should, at least in theory, make you even more dehydrated. -
Purposely contaminating lakes (SA)
thesodesa replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Water can be sterilized of most micro-organisms simply by heating it over a fire for a few minutes when you're close to sea level. It takes slightly longer at high altitudes because of the lower pressure, so the water boils at a lower temperature. If that fails just add a good amount of salt with iodine in it or a small amount of iodine tincture (iodine in an alcohoic solution) and that should take care of the rest. -
The zombie sounds sound like they were ripped right out of Thief: Gold or Thief 2: Metal Age

I have just one thing to say... Server load.

Derailed train wrecks as loot spawns? Sure, but the point of this thread is to add to the endgame content discussion.

You know that the methods of disconnecting can be tracked, right? I think humanity should be removed in the standalone.

I much prefer the idea of zeds reacting to you depending on how sudden your movements are when you are in their field of view, and how much noise you are making. With this approach I think the reasons why zeds don't aggro each other could be justified more easily and the implementation would be easier as well. But then again, should the zeds attack each other or not? If zeds were aggravated by sudden movements and loud noises surely they could accidentally start massive fights between each other. One zed sees a survivor running, screams, and other zeds are lured to the location of the noise instead of the survivor, assuming they haven't seen the survivor( now running for his life and becoming the target because the running animation would trigger zed aggro) as well. If suddenness of movements in addition to loud sounds was the main mechanic behind the aggravation of zeds, players would have more options when it came to dealing with them. For example, you could fire your gun to lure zeds to a location in a city, and while they are investigating the noise you go and loot some buildings. Remember that zeds are going to be able to run indoors so a mechanic like this would be very welcome in my opinion. While loot is going to be more plentiful in the SA because of more open buildings ,the fact that players would have to walk if they wanted to get across an open area full of zombies would expose them to possible snipers. it would balance things out nicely methinks.

Weight as a factor, Ability to see items placed in vehicles.
thesodesa replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, both space and weight should be taken into consideration when determining what your backpack can hold. For example, gold has the density of roughly 19kg/dm^3. You could easily fit 10 cubic decimeter blocks of gold into any decent rucksack, but it (or your back) would probably break under the load. Point is, small objects can be heavy. -
I think they are going to have to allow object manipulation later on. Being able to lug around an entire rotor assembly in your backpack or vest pocket doesn't make much sense. But yeah, having movable safes would be a good idea, as long as they are not completely foolproof. This way bambies that have stumbled upon a house/factory/firestation/any other structure that you have claimed as your own wouldn't be able to steal your things without proper equipment or the key code.

The Cities, the Villages, and the Hamlets.
thesodesa replied to Daemonkid's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To get people's attention could you change the title into something slightly more descriptive, like 'Unique cities, villages and hamlets'? To the topic at hand, this might or might not make sense depending on the already established backstory of Chernarus, which I'm not too familiar with. Were there more than 3 wealthy people living in Chernarus in the first place? Just because there are a few factories present on the island doesn't mean that those weren't simply commissioned by a foreign company, because the labor force in Chernarus was so cheap. The apartments look like they could have been homes to poor factory workers. -
Ideas for Hunting/New Equipment for Standalone
thesodesa replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea, but I'm afraid that if the construction of these little shelters was allowed we'd soon have the same issues as we had with the barbed wire: server load, people trolling by blocking buildings with them, etc. -
Only if you were courteous enough to rent a public server for the dev team would you not be able to change these settings.

We don't necessarily even need carts in my opinion. A single locomotive could house enough people so that small groups of people could be transported at once. Of course this might create some competition, but that would only make things more interesting and force people to make deals and compromises. The faction in control of the train could demand food or some other form of compensation in return for a 'ticket'. Whoever has the most beans gets a ride to Cherno.

No, I don't.

I never do.

Has already been suggested an is already being put into the standalone release of the game.

How much realism is too much for the SA?
thesodesa replied to Tunusa's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm only going to have an issue with realism if the team suddenly decides to implement some ridiculously complex feature that would delay the game's release by 12 months -

thesodesa replied to kasigawa's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is something that goes against the already established facts about the background story for the virus and how the infection works. -
If you have lots of great ideas it might help to actually include a descriptive thread title. For example right now the person who clicks on this thread has no idea what the thread is going to contain, except that it's going to be a suggestion for the standalone. What you should have written is something like; "Player home suggestion for Dayz standalone" or something like that. Vague titles will not help you in getting your ideas recognized because if the title is vague, I don't really want to waste my time having to read it in it's entirety to get an idea of what is being discussed.
