    [SA] Usable Indoor Fireplaces

You misunderstood me. I'm perfectly fine with being ambushed by bandits because of my own stupidity/need to build a fireplace to warm myself up. I was specifically addressing the engine limitations regarding smoke collision, since it is a fairly new piece of technology and not yet used in many games. I think the first game that ever used it was one of the Ghost Recon games that was released a few years ago, but I forget which one. EDIT: If I remember correctly, when building a fireplace in the DayZ mod in the woods, the smoke from the fire just floats through trees. EDIT: Looks like the smoke from smoke grenades does exactly what I feared:

    Groups

I'm not trying to be a prick, but if it doesn't need to be added to the game, why are you posting it to the suggestions section? If you are looking to put together a group to do these things, the general discussion board might have been more productive. That said, yes, I would like to see bigger groups forming, but not for the wrong reasons. If groups/communities start forming on servers it should be ,for example, because managing the before-mentioned cleanliness of the water supplies would be too difficult otherwise, or because assembling vehicles is impossible without a group to help you do it. Nobody should be forced to join a group.
  3. Sure, why not. you have my vote. +1 However, I don't think this is a major priority, but it might be nice to have it in the game at some point.
  4. All clothing items, yes. The problem is, we don't have belts yet, so these kinds of attachable/craftable items are not yet possible.
  5. I'm gonna just shamelessly plug my own thread that talks about hip quivers, and belts in general, since it's quite relevant to this topic: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/128493-standalone-a-clothing-slot-for-belts-different-kinds-of-holsters-and-quivers/

Which should I use? DayZ commander or PlayZ withSIX

As I recall, DayZ commander has a tick box that says 'turn off DayZ commander while running the game' or something like that.

    Cherno County Choppers

It's not a game about zombies, nor is it a game about infected people like those found in the film '28 days later'. Both of these kinds of zombies are completely unbelievable in terms of modern science. Rocket has explicitly said that he wants the virus in question to be believable, as in it should be something that could actually be engineered by geneticists in real life. Just putting this out there, even though you are just joking. Back on topic. :)

    [SA] Usable Indoor Fireplaces

How many houses are we talking about here? I'm not sure if the DayZ engine supports fire places inside houses, since if the fireplaces you are suggesting are just the usual DayZ fireplaces with just different visual models, the fireplaces are going to produce smoke. The smoke might just float through the building walls if the engine doesn't support 'smoke collision', which would look kinda silly. Not a bad suggestion at all, and relates to a subject I'm interested in, which is player management of existing buildings as an option to player bases, but I am concerned about performance issues. I'm always concerned with performance issues :)

zombies need to be more realistic

I think having zombies aggro on things based on how intensive sounds the possible target is making is not a bad idea, and I've suggested it before in at least 2 threads. One of those threads actually contains some pretty good debating: http://dayzmod.com/f...h/#entry1221415
  10. Should that be the case though? I mean, this is not a first person shooter, so shouldn't guns and ammunition be valuable rarities?

Why make instanced or underground bases?

Yeah, it was mentioned last summer by Dean. It's just another one of those things that would cause lag, because players would have to download the changes every time someone changes something in the terrain. It's the same thing with placeable items.
  12. I just recently posted a thread about a belt slot for clothing, that has implications for bows and crossbows: http://dayzmod.com/f...s/#entry1239736 More about the placeable shelters: The reason Wasteland had construction options available is because the devs of the mod completely ignored the fact that allowing players to place items around the map would lag the server down. Considering that the SA servers are going to support much more people than the mod servers, so allowing unlimited construction and placement of items isn't an option. Here's a quote from Matt Lightfoot: Personally I'm against instancing because of the fact that you cannot in any way sense what is going on outside the instance, even if you are standing just next to the entrance. A bomb could go off and you wouldn't be able to hear it because of the loading screen between you and the explosion. Not ideal for a game like DayZ, actually quite bad. Skyrim is a single player game, so it kinda works there, but it has never been done successfully in a multiplayer game that has map-wide PvP.

    changes in character through actions

Yeah, I thought about that, but just having that possibility of becoming completely deaf to in game sounds would almost certainly affect people's behaviour, and for that reason alone I think it might be worth a shot to try this out. For the experiment's sake :)

    changes in character through actions

Might be interesting to try out a mechanic, where firing your gun in fast succession, multiple times and within a certain time frame without hearing protection would lower your hearing, and eventually make you deaf.
  15. In the latest dev blog Dean said that the health system is going to consist of three components: 1. Blood 2. Level of Consciousness 3. Better damage model (limb-specific hit detection)

    Zombies attacking animals

The only thing I like about the 28 Days later fiction is the fact that the zombies aren't the risen dead but just infected people. The rest of the 28 days later fiction related to the nature of the virus completely unbelievable, unscientific, unauthentic bullshit. It gives the idea that the virus is somehow intelligent and is systematically controlling the infected to spread itself. Doesn't make any sense since viruses can't think. There was another related thread that I forgot to mention in a previous post: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/126836-what-is-%E2%80%9Ethe-infection%E2%80%9C-a-definition-approach/

    A few important ideas

To the OP: I assume you don't know much about computers. This is not just about disapproval for the idea. Having the body of every player that's ever played on the server remain on that server if they're not killed, and then having the body suddenly disappear when the player joins another server would cause massive lag. Think about how many objects the server might have to handle.

    Improved vehicle system Ideas

Please go and watch the dev blogs on tumblr and the interviews on these forums in the DayZ info section. This is already being implemented.

    Cherno County Choppers

This is one of the reasons you're not the one deciding what gets put into the game. :P On a serious note, vehicle customization is going to get implemented at one point. This much has already been confirmed, just don't expect anything crazy like mounted machine guns. However, when it comes to swapping heavy vehicle parts I'd like the game to require us to have some heavy lifting equipment and trailers when it comes to moving the parts around and installing them. Engines, tires and helicopter rotor assemblies can be quite heavy, so one should not be able to carry these over long distances on foot, let alone lift a rotor assembly on a chopper without hoisting equipment.

    Base building in DayZ standalone

Nobody is going to build anything, just fix and modify existing structures that have a function. http://dayzmod.com/f...20#entry1227473 http://dayzmod.com/f...40#entry1242058 Adding placeable junk in the game would kill our computers and the server that the game is running on.

Why make instanced or underground bases?

Nobody was ever talking about having base maintenance like it used to be in the mod, where you could place barricades and other junk on the ground to block people off. The barricading mechanic would work in such a way, that for example a door in a pre-existing cottage has 3 states, open, closed and barricaded. For the door to be barricaded one has to find a hammer, boards and nails, Then use those on the door and voila, it's barricaded. No junk on the ground causing lag and annoying people. This is only an example of how one could barricade a smaller cottage building that is somewhere off in the woods. The bigger ones, like hangars and larger car shops and stuff have electronic locks. That means the power station in Elektro (or somewhere else) has to be fixed, powered on and maintained to make these doors and other equipment inside work again. This other equipment could include a hoist in a car/boat/helicopter shop in Cherno, which would have to be used to switch engines or rotor assemblies. Fixing vehicles is too easy and not very authentic at the moment, so making these pre-existing structures a part of the fixing process would add to the challenge and authenticity. When is the last time you saw someone lifting a rotor assembly on a chopper with no help from a machine? Essentially these specific buildings would be like the guns and vehicles in the SA, with fixable, static (as in non-placeable = not annoying/game breaking) parts and equipment, that deteriorate over time as they are used, and have to be maintained. This would of course not apply to all buildings(too much work). Just have a few larger ones with an obvious function, like a car shop/helicopter hangar, in the major cities/military bases and and a few smaller cottages around the map. Another one could be a radio station with fixable broadcasting equipment (for all those people who have been asking for a car radio).

    Zombie super scent

There's just the problem of mutations being almost always harmful. This means that rapid mutations would be most certainly lethal to an organism that is more complex than a virus.

    Base building in DayZ standalone

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/125758-why-make-instanced-or-underground-bases/ http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/125990-an-easy-way-to-build-bases/ http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/127431-standalone-suggestion-bases/ There, 3 threads discussing this in detail. The first one is my favorite. It ended up evolving into something completely different from the OP of that thread, and has links to other relevant threads.

    Ghillie Suit removes backpack

The fact that the backpack doesn't show when you are wearing a ghillie suit or a bandit skin is obviously a semantic bug. It's not like the devs want it to be that way. It'll be fixed in the SA like the above poster said.
