It would be fairly simple to allow people to open up the side windows of vehicles and lean out of them with their secondary weapon equipped. It's only the animations that would be slightly tricky (Imagine 2 people on the backseat leaning against each other and clipping through each others heads). Basically allow leaning and the equipping of secondary weapons inside vehicles and the problem is conceptually solved.

Hunting knife as secondary weapon
thesodesa replied to Burt_Reynolds's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why should it magically become completely unusable? Once the new diseases are implemented it's going to be your own fault if you catch HIV/AIDS from meat you cut with a knife you just used on someone with the disease. But yeah, I think it should be made compulsory for you to actually equip the tool you are about to use in your hand. -
Bigger incentives to be a Bandit/Hero?

I'd rather have the skins removed to be honest. -

What I'm tying to say is, I think you are going to find it impossible to stick to just one play style in the standalone. -

Yeah, it has been discussed before. More on point though, I don't think you should be always able to play exactly how you want, if you want your character to survive. Especially in the future, when the disease and medical features are implemented you might have to rely on other people, even strangers to survive an infection or a fractured leg. -
I don't think the restrictions on giving yourself a blood transfusion, nor the food magically giving you instantaneous blood should carry over to the SA. Neither of these things are very realistic. Also, no magic injectors that instantly give you 50% of your max blood back should be allowed. Slow blood regen based on how well hydrated and fed you are is the only realistic way to go. Makes you avoid unnecessary combat when you can't heal so quickly. Another thing that would correspond to the real world better.

Nah, I think it should be player operated if anything like this gets implemented. The kind of train you mentioned is too science fictiony. And before anybody says "But what about the zombies? Aren't they unrealistic?" No. They're not dead zombies, and a virus that deteriorates your brain like it has done to the infected people in this game is perfectly possible to engineer.

Enabling players to fight with their bare hands would indeed probably result in fight clubs, but that would only inject more awesomeness and player freedom into the game.

Why make instanced or underground bases?
thesodesa replied to Jeremiah Cross's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Keep in mind though that I'm not talking about these things spawning in random locations on the map, but having them be as static buildings, as a part of the map. They'd be the same for every server so after a while everybody would know where they are. It would be a matter of whether people want to take advantage of the features that the building/prop provides. Another example of a functional prop/facility would be a locomotive, that could be found in a random location on the tracks already present on the map (more tracks could be added of course). It couldn't be derailed (because of technical limitations), but it could be made operational and driven around by the players. A recent thread discussing trains: http://dayzmod.com/f.../126287-trains/ -
A train network, or even just a single locomotive that could be discovered in a random position on the tracks could function as one of those functional, static, fixable and maintainable facilities mentioned in this thread: http://dayzmod.com/f...erground-bases/ The train tracks could be powered by the power stations on the map. I think this would be a cool way of implementing interactivity between different player structures.

ZOMBIES NEED THESE CHANGES SO THEY CAN BE PART OF THE GAME

To those who look down on bandits/pvp...
thesodesa replied to daspope's topic in New Player Discussion
The people who are against PvP are the ones looking forward to the additional features provided in the standalone. Currently Dayz is nothing more than a mod to a first person shooter, and that kinda shows, since those kinds of games tend to only feature shooting and combat. However, I don't really like first person shooters, and the reason I got into the game in the first place was the fact that once the final product is released there will be other things to do besides fighting. -

Urgent issue: Server-Hopping on SA. Let´s say NO! And make it a thing of the past.

Matt Lightfoot said in a recent interview that at least in the beginning they are going to limit everyone to the public hives. -

Only if the dev team ends up having to make a compromise between some other feature, like players building new structures in the over world (which I'm against by the way, I'd rather have static customizable buildings that serve some function besides working as a base. Wouldn't lag the server as much.) and the amount of zeds spawned on the map, should the individual zombies be made insanely more powerful. I do agree that they should be an opponent players wouldn't want to engage without a good reason, however the 'lore' behind them being dangerous has to make sense. Right now they are just cannon fodder. -
Or, more precisely, the handle of the axe.
-
This is already being implemented into the standalone as a part of the new medical and crafting system and has been mentioned quite a few times in the earlier interviews with Rocket.

The current hatchet isn't a hatchet, but a fire axe. Make it smaller -> no intuitive reason for the restriction.

Diving, Underwater Bases/Caves and Water Vehicle's
thesodesa replied to Mountainhigh (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's the Take on Helicopters engine that hey ended up modifying. But yes, this would be awesome. I'm still very disappointed about how Minecraft still doesn't have any underwater content even with the huge sea biomes. What's the point of having those if you're not going to do anything with them? -
how to handle property - the issue when being offline
thesodesa replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
One option is to limit the amount of equipment one can carry and add weight to items. I don't think an entire toolbox should fit into a tool belt for example. This way some guy who's just stumbled upon someone's camp couldn't take all of their stuff away without a vehicle. This would also make vehicle fixing more demanding, because carrying multiple heavy tires and jerry cans around would suddenly become rather challenging because of the new weight limit and reduced inventory size. Put these 2 together and the efficiency of would be -thieves is reduced by quite a bit. -
Why would you want to jump?

Maybe in the future. Guns don't seem to be the main focus at the moment.

It wouldn't stop people from forming bandit groups on servers and taking over some other base on the map. -
I never do :D.
