  1. Simple - what is the worst thing you've ever done to other players? Here is my story: I walked to the Krasnostav airfield to see if I could find some military grade weapons. I found much more than that - a helicopter, a tent with an AK-74, Remington, and AKM, all with full ammo. Also inside the tent was a full list of car parts and medical and utility gear. I tell my friend to log on and get here so we can distribute our loot. He arrives at the airstrip and we are about ready to leave when - all of a sudden - my friends yells, "OH SHIT, there is a car coming!" We book it into one of the hangars and hear him park the car near us and get out. We wait. One minute goes by - silence. Two minutes. Five minutes. Finally we decide to move out when gunfire begins. He opened fire at us from the opposite hangar, but luckily my friend spun around and shot him in the head like a boss. We promptly took his car, blew up the helicopter, and left.
  2. Has anyone ever been saved by another survivor in the most insane circumstances? This happened a while ago - but I was watching the medical tents at Stary Sobor for some military grade loot with two of my friends. We had decided to leave after getting some gear and promptly left in the field near the area. All of a sudden, three bandits open fire on us. Both of my friends are killed. We managed to kill one of them (I am pretty sure anyway) but I was knocked unconscious. As I lay in the dirt, bleeding out, I know my end is near. One of the bandits comes over and points his revolver right in my face and I know this about to be the end. Suddenly, the bandit collapses after I hear a mega loud explosion, blood spewing from his head. Another two shortly follow - and then I'm being dragged into the woods. Turns out a mega-bro sniper happened to hear the gunshots and came to my aid. Truly the best save that could have ever occurred.
  3. I see too many threads about people trying to stop bandits from being bandits. Truthfully, being a bandit is fun, and punishing this type of playstyle would lead to the death of DayZ. It would become essentially a huge zombie co-op game and within a few weeks everyone would max out their gear with little threat to their survival. To lower the amount of bandits people need an incentive to play together with other players if they want to keep their gear. To eliminate excessive banditry, being in a group must be deemed a better option for survival than playing lone wolf. How can this goal be accomplished? Ask yourself this first: Can you loot gear from towns or even cities without reasonable difficulty by yourself? Of course. For most people then, the following logic applies: Bandit Logic 1) If I play lone wolf I get 100% of the gear that I find. 2) I am more concealed in forest areas from other players 3) I can kill other players for their gear without much consequence 4) I have no risk of getting backstabbed Why the hell wouldn't you pick this option over the alternative? Survivor Logic 1) If I play in a group I must share my loot and supplies 2) I am more visible in forest areas 3) I am at risk of getting shot by bandits first unless I run with a bandit group 4) I may get backstabbed at any time 5) I have someone to watch my back and give me blood transfusions The solution to eliminate excessive banditry is simple then. The first logic must turn into this: Proposed Bandit Logic (The Goal) 1) If I play lone wolf it is probable that I will be killed if I enter a town. It is certain that I will be killed if I enter a city. However, I get to keep all the gear I find. (Adding a risk vs reward element) 2) Being visible by players in the forest is the least of my concerns. Roaming zombies and the elements will kill me soon enough if I do not find help. 3) Killing other players will seal my fate once they hear my heartbeat - teamwork is the only way to survive for an extended amount of time 4) Risking getting backstabbed 30-40% of the time is better than playing solo and meeting certain death 100% of the time. How do we get to our goal? I propose the following: 1) Dramatically increase the amount of zombies so that going solo is suicide in nine areas: Cherno, Elektro, Balota, Solnichniy, Berezino, Krasnostav, Northwest Airfield, Zelenogorsk, Stary Sobor. Additionally, make raiding towns solo more difficult but not impossible for a determined bandit. 2) Forests cannot be safe zones from zombies. Add the "heavy mist" suggestion (which unfortunately that forum post was lost with the website switch). But to summarize have zombies roam in hordes with this type of fog across the landscape: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_41gZx09KVI Staying in tinted fog for an extended period of time without a gasmask can infect you with the zombie virus, at which point you must find medicine to stop the infection from fully killing you. 3) Make food resources more scarce, but have multiple uses. This will allow "sharing" of food within a group. 4) As a side note, I think adding the "power grid" suggestion would also be beneficial to encourage groups to have an objective if they so want one. 5) Allow people with radios to communicate in side chat with one another. TLDR: Make the game more difficult. Have zombies roam in hordes. Make food more scarce. People will team up more, and less people will choose to be bandits.
  4. First off, don't come onto the forums and suggest ideas and ask for feedback with that type of attitude. You asked people give their opinion as to why they think its a bad idea rather then just "NO NO NO" etc and people are telling you why, and you just bash the game like a little bitch. But here is why: 1) Zombies are not the point of the game. Rocket has stated that the purpose is to make players do their own thing and experience the trauma of trying to survive in a cruel and unforgiving game. Secondly, he has already stated that he does not intend to add any zombie "types" other than what is already in the game - it is too Call of Duty, Left 4 Dead, etc. It isn't meant to be arcade style game. It is simple and straight-forward. Its a fucking zombie, or a horde of fucking zombies. That's it. No point in arguing as to why your idea is better - because it will never ever happen. Period. Deal with it. 2) Second, the game DOES encourage greedy gameplay. You are out to survive - its you or them. There is nothing wrong with this. The strong, intelligent players who analyze risks and make smart decisions last longer. They get better loot. They get the cars. So do the people who disconnect - but this an entirely separate unintended issue that will be fixed soon enough. 3) You are clearly not enjoying the game because of the way you play. Clearly you are murdering people and ironically bitching about how the game makes you murder people with a 'you or them' attitude. Then don't go and murder people - like shit. Pick a different playstyle. This doesn't have to exist. Sure - it is smarter and more tactical - but that isn't the way you HAVE to play. You don't need directly programmed objectives to have fun nor should they exist to appease people who refuse to try things differently. 4) This game DOES give you the tools to play how you want. Yesterday I went around as a solo medic. I saved people. I was ambushed. I had epic gunfights and met friends. And overall, I had a fucking blast. No other game can you be part of a "medic squad" to this extent. I've seen people play as mercenaries that hunt enemy players for beans. I mean seriously - the options are unlimited. So don't say the game is bad, or the game is shallow because a lack of endgame options. I can clearly make my own endgame - I've been playing for over 200 hours - why can't you? Why do you insist of in-game mechanics in a SANDBOX style game? Those type of objectives would discourage you to strike out on your own and make your own objectives - which is the purpose of Day Z and the sandbox genre - to play how you want. 5) I have never, ever had issues with load times. Upgrade your shit.

how to make day z better, 90% will agree

I still enjoy sneaking through towns. I've been able to sneak through the NWA, both Cherno and Elektro, Stary Sobor and Novy Sobor with almost no issues other than grabbing aggro on my way out due to recklessness. The old system was fun - but still not very challenging or as realistic. Do you really think a zombie would stare right at you and just let you walk away?
  6. I know I said I wouldn't ' date=' but I can't resist you, my sweet cupcake. Again you play around with your own points (what we in the 'industry' call a straw man), I said the gear was easy (because it is, being all in one place, quite often in common locations) and made no reference at all in any post to the relative power levels of anything being related to anything else. The only qualification I will be associated with is a fruity little comment about their noise levels which are a touch towards the sky, if I may say so. What you are doing is a most vivacious display of dissociative reading efficacy and one is rather perturbed to find you here on the forums instead of frolicking amongst the wild flowers putting your most encyclopaedic knowledge of weapons to merry use. I should hope that my daringly mangled English has put a cur such as yourself in your rightful place, that will be £20 for the service (Including VAT, naturally, I'm no monstrosity). If you'd like to be put anywhere else, that's extra. [/quote'] 10/10. How can he counter argue you if he doesn't have a clue what you just said?

I wish I had one, or could create one. But I am not artistic at all. :(

The "I know that guy" visual system

I think this is a great idea. It's dumb that you can just scan the horizon on recruit servers to see a flash of a name so you can scope in and kill them. At the same time, it sucks when I play a veteran server with my friends and every time we split up around a corner we start shouting at each other to confirm we didn't run into someone we didn't know.
  11. Why are so many people complaining about the "cowaduty" kids killing them in chernogorsk or electro? Bandits are a part of the game, and they bring life to the Day Z experience. Imagine if you couldn't kill other survivors. What would this game become? Players would team up in large groups and eradicate a town until everyone had military grade weapons. The game would get dull in hours - everyone would have high tier loot and there would be no challenge. Bandits bring unpredictability to the game. Is this person friendly? Am I going to die in the next ten seconds? Sometimes your instincts are wrong and you are going to get killed. Why blame the other person? You had loot that would benefit his survival and he can kill you to take it. There are no rules here. There is no morality. People can (and should in some scenarios) lie to you to get ahead. Don't come to the forums with your tears to fuel further development. Those people that are killing you are playing a different way then you, and that's okay. Not everyone is a carebear that wants to hold hands to be friends. I already know what some of you are going to say - "What about the snipers in cities that kill noobs just to ruin the experience for other players?" These bandits are smart bandits. Why should a bandit let you get gear in a main city, or worse, the airfield, so that you become a serious threat down the road? So I for one support the efforts of bandits. The people complaining about this game becoming a death match must stop running into populated areas over and over and think a different result is going to occur when they know there are snipers around. Bandits - you are teaching these players valuable lessons about the harsh reality of Chernarus. You make this game fun and exciting, and for that I thank you. Edit: Here are examples of threads I've seen that think murders are a bad thing and should be removed or discouraged. Quite frankly these are the types of ideas that we should avoid: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5362 http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4786 http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5257 I'm sure I don't even need to cite what I'm talking about. Spend two minutes on this board and you'll see someone somewhere make a bitter reference is how bandits "ruin" the game.

An open letter to the silent majority

I love Day Z. I agree with you - I am upset by the amount of people that complain. The mod works fine and I love where Rocket is going with it
  13. Letting people live is an unnecessary risk to your own safety. He might not be a threat now - but who knows what he will do when finds a gun? Its best to put him down before finding out whether he is hostile or not. Let's say there's only a 10% chance he will eventually find a gun and kill you. Is that worth letting all other 9/10 scenarios where the survivor will let you walk? Nope - not in my book. There's a 100% guarantee that he won't be a threat with a slug to his head and his character back by the beach. And here's why...The Walking Dead *SPOILER* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNqT4Q1vrC8
  14. What are the numbers next to player's names when they talk in channels? It looks like this: 1-1-D: [Maedis]: blah blah blah im a nooblord I don't think its coordinates, and every server I ask says they have no idea

Numbers / Letters Next to Name

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the information!

    Bears

Indigenous wildlife would also be a threat in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Add bears that can easily maul players to death, and on death they can be gutted for 12 or so meat. It would also eliminate the 'safe' feeling of the wilderness. Bears shouldn't be common at all, as much as real bears wouldn't be terribly common, but if you are trekking through wilderness you are bound to encounter some sort of hostile wildlife eventually.

    Snow

The title says it all - have it snow when it is actually snowing in the region your server is located. I'm not sure if the Arma 2 engine can support this, but if it can it would be an awesome addition to the game. Other additions: - Footprints that fade away depending on how heavy snowfall is, so bandits can track other survivors. - Cars make tracks in the snow - Slower zombie movement in heavily snowed in areas, as it impedes their motor skills - The temperature meter slowly depletes and the player must create a campfire or stay in indoors for a short period of time to refill it or face an accuracy and movement penalty from hypothermia - Lakes freeze over allowing you to walk on them, with a chance that they break and instantly deplete your temperature meter

IF this was an actual game...

    - Game purchase only. - Studio developed (as long as they don't standardize it to make it like Call of Duty or whatever bullshit formulaic model they might use) - Studio servers - Kickstarter
