Combat logging: One of these things is not like the other.
Thing replied to Travis31's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow... You do know you are a douche bag? -
That is all :-O

I had the same problem with this and other games on my laptop if I played for longer than 30m-1hr. Using a HW monitor I worked out that is was actually the chipset (not the CPU or GPU) that was overheating. Bought a €20 USB powered fan which solved all my problems.

And my search for my local server commences... Oh Gamespy, why are you such a tease. It's the same damn servers running every night but you make me restart 5 times before you will show me the one I want... sigh Any way to specify a server on the command line?

Two things... 1) Make sure your battleye client is up to date as per... http://support.dayzmod.com/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=20. This might fix some of the stuck in 'Loading...' problems. 2) Make sure you only join servers which are running the same version of the beta patch as you are (e.g. if you have patch 95883 then only join servers reporting 95883) I am not 100% sure yet but I think that might have fixed it for me -
Did you just post in purple comic sans? I feel violated!

So when you said you were 'logging' you were actually... ewww! Wash your hands before you touch that mouse... I don't want to catch virtual coodies when I nick your stuff. -

Tell us oh wise one... how do we avoid getting dumped on the coast after getting stuck at the 'Loading...' screen? -

er... it would also completely remove the only unique feature of DayZ which is character persistence. If each server has it's own characters then you might as well bin all that complex hive code and just call it 'DayZ Deathmatch'. -

lol... first you imply that we are abusing alt-f4 then you suggest that I should use a network cable rather than my wlan! yeah... cos THAT is likely to be the cause of everybody's problems. At this point it appears pretty likely that it is a bug. Reading around there has been some suggestion that flipping between servers running 95833 and the previous version might cause the problem. The server I normally play on does not report this info so I can't confirm this. Will play on another server (which does display the version) and see whether it happens again. IF you see the issue and want to get it fixed ASAP then the best thing you can do is go to the bug tracker and vote so that the dev team knows how many people are affected by this... https://dev-heaven.net/issues/40878 Edit: If it is just the server version that is the problem then it is just a matter of updating the patch instructions for the servers and waiting for the admins to to the fix (in which case Woo Hoo!) -

It is a bug, it's been reported in the bug tracker and the reports on this thread are the proof which you would have known IF you had actually read it instead of blaming the problem on us. So I repeat... f*** off! For the record, after being stuck on the loading screen I am now back on the coast AGAIN (5th time). I'm off-line until it's figured out because tbh grinding up past the spawn campers every damn time I log on is going to bore me to death. You saying 'I have never seen the problem' and implying it is our fault is not a useful contribution -

You never ever get stuck in the 'Loading' screen? Never once had your wireless ap reset? Never once had to leave a server when it reset or disconnected? Never once had the phone ring while you were in the middle of a session and had to do something else? What annoys me about this mod is not the bugs but the complete clowns who come on here to blame everything on the users. You don't see the bug? Good for you! You want a f***ing cookie? If you don't see the problem and have nothing to contribute to the discussion but to blame a bug in alpha SW on the users then why don't you just f*** off! -

Ok... here I am trying to join my usual server but instead I am looking at the word 'Loading'. So what do I do now? If I alt+f4 am I going to back at the coast? If I alt+f4 but wait for 30 min - 1 hour will I be ok. What are the goddamn rules? I have played maybe 3 or 4 times since the upgrade and have been dumped on the coast every fricking time - I am officially starting to get pissed of. If it is a bug then cent la vie but if it is a deliberate feature to discourage server hopping then it needs to get squashed ASAP. I don't see what I have done to deserve to be caught in the cross fire here... as far as I can tell being stuck in the loading screen is a common issue. If it is a feature (and I don't know if it is) maybe it would make people's life's easier if they asked the community if a rule change would be ok rather than just stick it out there and see how many people squeal. -

I've checked the wiki map and watched a few guides on you tube where the player finds a deer-hide (gets a weapon), goes to store (finds some food) goes to a barn (finds an axe). But when i try the same thing i find a deer-hide (empty), go to the supermarket (empty), find a barn (empty). If I'm lucky maybe one building in five contains something useless like a flare or an empty tin can. Do I have a bad installation, am I playing on some wierd, hardcore servers or has the game been patched to make items rarer? If the later the game is just completely unplayable for me as it's impossible to find enough food/water to survive even before you run out of ammo. It's also extremely annoying to spend 15 minutes sneaking/fighting your way into the middle of town just to find it completely empty (e.g. the store in Polana - should it ever be completely empty?) I know the loot is working as I do occasionally find things, just not nearly enough to survive for any length of time. Don't tell me I'm looking in the wrong places or I need to learn where things are... I'm looking in the same places all the guides/videos suggest - just not finding anything (nothing in the store in Cherno either, some medical supplies on the roof of the hospital but no weapon or anything else to break the ground level windows with)
-
Solved... it was the server (actually it was a lot of servers). So that is my advice for new players... if you are having problems finding loot, switch to another server. When you find a server which is spawning useful loot, remember the name and stick with it. Doesn'y solve the problem of partially looted pile blocking spawn points with piles of empty tin cans but ce la vie.

Add Tupperware so you can save some for later. And at least 50% of the tins should contain tuna fish or sweet corn because when I open my cupboard that is what I see /s

Seriously this is getting stupid.. Three hours and not a single weapon?
Thing replied to Hysterics's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeps... He's a noob. Welcome to the forum for 'New Player Discussion'? (is that not obvious enough?) The thread about mouse lag is about douchebags telling gamers that it's their fault that the game doesn't work when they don't understand the nature of the problem. Clearly some people are seeing problems with item re-spawn. Telling them to all go away and play CoD is not constructive either. I have a lot of respect for the mod developers here and for Bohemnia, but from what I have seen in ArmA itself the scripting engine which makes it all work is not entirely robust. -
I agree sometimes they can be empty but if I am seeing 3 empty in a row followed by a completely empty supermarket then something has gone wrong. It is just not possible to play the game without any loot at all. Someone on another thread suggested that servers stop spawning over time and need to be restarted more often.

Any advice for what to do when you spawn away from the major towns (e.g. stuck away up in Solichniy). Locating weapons seems to be easy enough but I really struggle to find enough food to survive. There's only one or two stores up that way and they have already been looted starvation is a real issue. -

Thing replied to Hysterics's topic in New Player Discussion
I think everything he says is a reasonable summary of many people's experience (at least initially). It took me three days to find a gun and i saw exactly the same video. The tutorial guide basically says, 'go here, find food', 'go here find medical supplies, go inland'. When I tried the same thing I found nothing at all in the market and just a few empty tin cans at the hospital (so the tut is only useful if you happen to be as lucky as the guy who made it. If he sounds frustrated with the game then (this being a newbie forum) maybe you should try to work out why. Are you offended by what he said or how he said it. If it is the later then where have you been... this is the Internet my friend. -
The zombies are not catching me. I'm just not finding any loot.

If you want to know why anyone who says something like 'this isn't CoD! lolz NOOB' deserves nothing but contempt, have a look at this long thread on the old ArmA II mouse lag issue. I and other people were seeing something like 2-3s mouse lag but everyone on the forums was still talking BS about weapon physics and this being a 'proper' shooter. In the end the issue was fixed by updated NVidia drivers. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?74085-Radiosound-Mouse-Lag-Problem This is a newbie forum on a Alpha release mod. Accept that a) new players might have legitimate questions B) confused newbies can be a hint of flaw in the mod design c) it's an Alpha - it CAN have bugs. don't take it personally We want this mod to be successful so when we see things that we think aren't working we come here to talk about them.
