Hacker encounter w/ video - Got killed a few times... and then...
n'Zapador posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not long ago my friend and I encountered this hacker and I caught some stuff on video. I've edited it together so it isn't just a lot of running around Chernarus which I'm sure you all enjoy as often as I do. Story: Me and my mate, Chira, were travelling along when my mate is suddenly taking fire. I quickly seek cover and look around. About a hundred meters away in the treeline I spot a dude in ghillie, and a second later he starts shooting at me. Being exhausted from running I have little chance of succesfully hitting anything with my AS50 - I try to escape but with no luck. At this point I am not sure exactly what weapon was being used, other than it being a silenced weapon. A minute or two later my mate is killed. We were immediately suspicios and felt quite sure that something wasn't right - he likely teleported between the point where I died and where my mate died, cause we were quite confused with his location. After I've died and respawned, I begin to record... but after several minutes of nothing happening I discard the theory of a hacker and accept that I just failed. But shortly after I hear the sound of a silenced gun being fired, very likely the same as before, and I take a few hits. I run to the opposite side of a building to seek cover, then turn around to look behind me in case someone would come around the corner. I start to bandage myself but a few seconds later this dude spawns right in front of me and I end up dead pretty quickly. I didn't record the above since I didn't have FRAPS running at that point due to a restart, but I got pretty much all of the rest on tape. The total timeframe from the first encounter till the point where the video ends is about 1 hour 20 minutes, I've cut that down to 7 minutes 21 seconds. Video: Music is "Animus Vox" by "The Glitch Mob" -

Glad you like it. Cutting it took some time but yeah, exactly the reason why - its boring to watch 10 minutes of nothing happening, Hollywood movie wouldn't sell if they had that long periods of nothing :D My knowledge of however this game works is limited, sure, and I am not a software engineer. However I know that on private hives admins can see who has what items and thereby ban people for having items they're not supposed to have etc. Also it should be relatively easy for Bohemia to add a few lines of code to ARMA so that everything that needs to be logged is actually logged. By having a log of everything that happens, like a player teleporting, spawning items etc., it is relatively easy to make a script that scans this log and takes action whenever needed. It wouldn't be rocket science for those guys to figure out a quick solution to this huge problem - in case they're incapeable, I bet someone out there is capeable of this job and they should hire him  -

Glad you guys like the video :D I did my best to tell a little story in a short time, so it wouldn't just be boring 45 minutes as the original recordings are. It was quite funny with all the satchels. After having finished the video I've realized that he tries to hit me with another satchel - the sound is just so hard to notice so I just noticed that now. I don't get why nothing seems to be done to prevent hackers. From my knowledge about how technology works it should be very simple to add some functionality that checks different things and ban people who do stuff they're not supposed to do. Examples... Check location XY of player every some seconds, if difference between XY1 and XY2 is larger than Z meters, then the person is automatically banned. Twenty vehicles don't just spawn in the middle of nowhere, so another function could check for location of vehicles, the time at which they spawned etc., and thus remove those that aren't legit. Check for weapon and item IDs. Any occurance of non-legit IDs in a players inventory should simply cause the weapon/item to be deleted. HOW HARD CAN IT BE? Definitely not that hard as all of the above suggestions can be done purely server-side and doesn't involve any check for software on client machine, such as aimbot or whatever there might exists. I still wonder why this dude could do all this stuff while on a BattleEye enabled server... BE not working at all, thats for sure. -
Should I hear someone sniping at me?
n'Zapador replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nice trick: Play around in ARMA II, this way you will learn a lot about what you want to know - like how different weapons do sound, distance to the one shooting, direction etc. You will also get a chance to get some useful practice with different weapons, without using up all your hard earned ammo in DayZ. -
Do you think he was a hacker?
n'Zapador replied to Brutal-Hunter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Exactly my point. -
I've had no problems with my tents, all working. Both those placed in 2.4 and 2.5... But I've been rather picky, chosing a server that I know is stable.

I've said it once and I'll say again, I did not have a se...... oh no wait... Any decent geek would say: If you use anything that's NOT a final version, never ever think about complaining. Simple as that. Period. You may kindly point out erros, but please stop whining. -
DO NOT POST YOUR GLOBAL BAN APPEALS

What Bananas is saying isn't right in any case - though in some cases it is, but as a general statement it doesn't work. In most cases an ISP (Internet Service Provider) gives you 1 IP-address (Internet Protocol) and this IP will in most cases be assigned to the router/modem. It is most commonly referred to as the WAN or Internet IP. Eg. if you join a server that server will see this IP as your address - and if you are more people on the same connection they will all share this same address. Each computer on the local network will receive a LAN IP (Local Area Network) and this will work for communication between computers on the network through the router. A LAN IP address will in most cases start with 192.168. or 10.0. In some cases, most common with fiber-baset internet, you can receive more than one IP address from your ISP, thus enabling you to have eg. 3 computers (if you have 3 WAN IPs) online at the same time, on the same server, while appearing to be online from different locations. Those 3 IPs are likely to have the first 3 sections identical, eg. 87.122.143.X so that only the X is different between each computer. -
Where did you get your weapon (AKA how bad is loot inflation)?
n'Zapador replied to Heiduk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's a free FN FAL AN/PVS-4 with 3 full mags @ north baracks at north airfield (baracks closest to the firestation) @ 85.114.152.49:10600 (DE 2048) No, I'm not going to kill you. Yes, I just dropped it cause I were sick and tired of it taking up my backpack space. -
You might not want to make the TOPIC like "Idk if this is the right spot" - uhm, what would make people go here, other than to tell you what I do? Something like "Helicopter spawns under water" might work better

Get it in 1920x1080
-
I think with these specs it will be hard to get more than 15 FPS or so, and likely very often a lot less. But the issue with changing FPS might be due to CPU changing speed, CPU/GFX getting hot - fan getting on - temp ok - fan turning off - temp high etc...

Exclamation Question Upgrading my pc for dayZ need suggestions on my upgrades!
n'Zapador replied to stevch0's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
To get a ballpark figure on the PSU needed, go check out this site http://extreme.outer...culatorlite.jsp I'm playing on a laptop with an i7 2670QM (4x2.2 GHz, 3.1 turbo I think...), 16 gigs of DDR3-12800 and a GTX 560M 3 GB. I run the game at 1920x1080, but setting it to 1280x720 instead gives me exactly ZERO additional FPS - it seems that resolution has no (or very little) impact on performance. If you use sensible settings, eg no AA, no post-processing and other heavy stuff, you should get down to 15-18 FPS in worst cases and up to 45 or so when its going well. You might want to add some more RAM to your computer, I know that it doesn't matter in terms of speed.... but then again, it kinda does... cause with 4 you're likely to run a bit short of RAM quite often thus resulting in more HDD caching. If you want to greatly improve load-times get a SSD. -

Listen to the wise man who told you to listen to the wise men and don't get an alienware; much like starbucks you pay for the brand, not the coffee itself. If you want something fancy, you would likely be better off with a Maingear or something - https://www.maingear.com/ -

Cannot join the same server with 2 pcs from the same house
n'Zapador replied to jimbo081's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hmm, I would assume it has to do with two clients sharing the same WAN IP, cause I can't figure out what else could cause the problem. Since I haven't experienced the problem I haven't been able to try any solutions either. Using a proxy would very likely solve the problem, but from my experience - even with a proper proxy - gaming isn't really recommended. You could try to call your ISP and ask if they can provide you with an additional IP address, some ISPs do that for free, some for a relatively manageable monthly or one-time fee. Some even include additional IPs as standard, but that is sadly quite rare. I hope you'll eventually find a solution! :) Edit: *Maybe* turning UPnP on in your router could solve the problem (or in case its already on, turning on it off might solve it). Either way it might be worth trying. -
DO NOT POST YOUR GLOBAL BAN APPEALS
n'Zapador replied to rocket's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have witnessed a global ban that I am positive was issued for no reason at all whatsoever. I was playing for several days straight with my friend, stayed at his place and brought my laptop. I've known him for many years and would entrust him with anything at any time without ever giving it a second thought - even my life or my girlfriend to stay at his place :P We were playing on the same servers, obviously, and had great fun, good gear etc. - then we logged off to get some food and returned a few hours later to find out that he had been globally banned. There are many stories like this on the forums... this is just one of them. I know that a story like the one above can, and is likely to, be contested by someone if posted on the forums. I see that over and over again, but don't be ignorant - some people claiming being banned for no reason might actually be right. After the ban he immediately wrote BattleEye Support inquiring why he had been banned and claiming that it was not a rightful ban. He has never received any reply and therefore has no way of knowing why or what was the reason for the ban. So... lets imagine this, in some way, very similar situation. I walk down the street and a policeman steps up to me and starts putting me in handcuffs. I ask what I have done, but he remains silent. Then puts me in the car, takes me to the station and I end up behind bars. No one ever tells me why I was put there, no judge ever reviewed my case and I will likely remain there indefinitely - or I will eventually be released, but without ever being told why I were put the in the first place. This is what is happening with some of the BattleEye bans. I am not saying that all bans are wrong, likely the vast majority is rightful and I fully support that! But should we, as a community, accept that players are being punished and never told why? With the current situation we don't know what is allowed and what is not. What am I allowed to edit in my config file? And what would get me banned? Can I safely change my FoV, remove the viewmodel or HUD, set the number of max pre-rendered frames or use a macro that presses the mouse button at a set interval? It isn't just black and white, there is an area in between where one could be in doubt. Obviously spawning any item, teleporting yourself etc etc is not allowed as it clearly (to anyone who is relatively sane) is something that gives you an unfair advantage. On the other end, something like changing the number of pre-rendered frames is only a matter of performance and thus allowed (would be my guess). But what about FoV? One could argue that a wide FoV gives you the unfair advantage, but one could also argue that a narrow FoV would give you the unfair advantage. The former will make it easier to navigate and pay attention to whatever is in your proximity, but on the other hand it makes it difficult to spot targets in the distance. Opposite goes for the latter. A complete list of anything that is not allowed should be easily available on the BattleEye website, just like the law of a country is available to anyone who cares to read it. (I have searched and searched, but never found this list, so I assume it does not exist. At least not in public. Correct me if wrong.) I don't think we should accept this situation, its like things happen in China where people are just put away for no apparent or sensible reason at all. We should demand that things are done in a way that would be acceptable in a democracy - not a dictatorship. Or in short: Everyone should have access to the rules, so whoever cares to read it thereby can abide it. If you don't have access to it, how can you abide it? And in case of any ban, a reason should always be given. Simply getting a message that says global ban # - and never ever hear from BattleEye support - is definitely not acceptable. Its against common sense and it is so unjust that it makes me wanna cry. I am not defending cheaters, but our rights as humans, citizens, players, to know what is being done to us and why. My friend is no longer banned, it was lifted some days ago, but never any reply from BattleEye support, not even an apology admitting that they screwed up. But it seems that bans are actually lifted if they were imposed by mistake. In case you've read it all, thank you for your time and concern. - Zapador -
Due to its low damage its not really recommended for PvP. But against zombies its very useful, large mag capacity and that its silenced makes it a wonder for stalking places with a lot of zombies - simply pick out those that are in your way. Problem is that the ammo can only be found at heli crashsites, afaik, so when you're out ammo its likely for a long time.

Would This Computer Run DayZ Smoothly
n'Zapador replied to TheDayZNewbie's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yeah don't get Alienware, it's now owned by Dell and Dell is .... well. It will definitely be able to run DayZ smoothly, assuming you don't pop up postprocessing or similiar heavy stuff - which you in most cases don't want, since all postprocessing do is mess it all up and cause you to get nausea :P Short version: Yes, it will.
