Removing M107/AS50 in favor of increased sniper damage?
kaiga12 replied to Dark Terror's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Tier 1 snipers should be a Lee Enfield (Or Mosin Nagant or whatever they go with as a hunting rifle) with a scope attachment that you have to find on your own and the civilian model bolt action Barret .50 cal which comes with it's own scope and can hold 5 rounds and is extremely rare. Throw in the windage and environmental challenges that have to be overcome to hit targets at range with ANY gun and you'll have balance. -
Great suggedtion 10/10

I wasn't aware DayZ had "plays"
-
Why not keep the current crosshair and just remove the middle post that tells you exactly where your bullet is going to end up? You would just aim, putting your target in between the two lines for quick point shooting (you'd only be able to guess at long ranges) and the lines would draw together or widen based on fatigue, pain, stance etc.

My gripe isn't that it doesn't work, it's just that it's utility in the DayZ SA at least will be diminished if everyone else is in "3rd person arcade mode" meaning it's probably not worth it to buy exclusively for the SA.

All TrackIR does is enhance FPV by letting you use your head to control your in-game head on the same swivel you get from using Alt. Everything you can do with a TrackIR you can still do without one, otherwise the game wouldn't work at all without one. Furthermore peeking over walls does not work in Arma 2 (the character model cannot tiptoe or stretch it's neck) at all unless you have 3P on (Which is bullshit) and you can already peek corners using Q and E. If you're referring to the Arma 3 features of TrackIR (the six degrees of freedom etc) which the devs may be using in the SA, I have no idea whether or not that's an exclusive feature but I'd wager it isn't and there will still be some way of keyboard controlling all character movements. That said: Sounds like joysticks with hat switches and anything that is not a mouse and keyboard is "pay-to-win" according to your logic. Really? So they'll make my bullets do more damage? I'll buy five!
-
I feel for anyone about to or has already bought a TrackIR for the Standalone. If anything buy it for Arma 3. They say the SA will support it's use but if 3rd person is allowed in the public servers you've just paid $170 to handicap yourself.

At night in the woods not run: It is likely to fall, stumble, slip.
kaiga12 replied to Griffon's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I dunno I feel like this is another thing that would stop people playing at night. -
My vote is for locked first person all the way on normal-veteran servers. Third person should be unlocked on "special" servers titled EASYMODE in all caps. Players there spawn with a pistol too. Oh and crosshairs and peripheral dots are also on. Always fun to lie prone in third person and look at dots.

Maybe when you discover a new area you could get a little reward achievement too and some XP /sarcasm

Reposting my idea from another thread: Side chat in my humble opinion should be a function bound to a lootable/findable communication device or radio with texting capability that is about as rare and hard to find as a GPS. It should be displayed much like the compass or watch. You press a key to look at it, double tap it to lock it on your screen (yes it blocks some of your view) and type into it. If you don't wanna use it just never tap that key. All voice should be in proximity or on separate radio channels with specific frequencies. The radio would be use to talk to people I'm not sure I want in my Skype chat. Also "Side Chat" is an Arma 2 term. I would call it something like "ChernarusNet" or "LingorNet" or what have you.

More like needs more Rockettes doing the Cancan... of beans! Some animator get on that now!

I support the idea of linking sleep to logging out but it shouldn't be a required action. Sleep as a gameplay mechanic for a multiplayer game is boring and with all of the other realistic aspects of dayz implementing it halfway or part-way (i.e. you have to do nothing for 5 minutes) would be silly. So what I propose is instead of making how long you sleep or the need to sleep important, just make WHERE you sleep (read: where you log out) important. Logging out in the wilderness without first setting up a tent should be possible like it is now but should carry the penalty of a temperature drop or chance to catch a disease on login after a certain amount of time has passed. It would also make some popular concealed places to login and out (i.e. sniper hills) less desirable since doing so would increase the chances of catching disease and would make logging out in wierd places like the tents in stary sobor or the NWAF barracks less common. Again it would still be possible to log out there without pitching a tent but you do so at risk of disease due to improper shelter during sleep. Tldr: Sleep should coincide with logging out but not be a "need". Where you log out and the shelter it provides should be what matters.

I know a game that used lockouts like the one described. It got removed from Steam recently... I think it was called... THE ARISTOCRATS!

The Bizon PP-19 SD would be crazy good if they fixed the ammo and magazine system. It uses the same 9mm rounds as the makarov of which there are approximately 1.2 billion in Cherno alone. Seriously I just pick them out of the general store walls. The Bizon would have to become a lot rarer then in order to offset that crazy utility.

How to get the bandit skin
kaiga12 replied to charlespennywhacker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You guys don't understand, that unarmed player was totally giving him the stink eye. He looked at him and was like "I may not have a weapon now... but maybe... maybe in a few hours or possibly tomorrow after school... I will find one and then you'll be a dead man... How do I bandage? halp." -

kill rabbits, skin them, eat them, make a hat. -
A journal/interface like this would be boss. The game is called Miasmata.

This type of GPS should be the more commonly found one. Military GPS units like the ones in the mod now should be as rare as AS50s and stachel charges.
