It takes time to develop a game, the mod you were playing is only that, a MOD, in alpha version made by a single guy in his spare time for a bunch of friends and himself to play... Now just wait for the standalone, and remember :

IMO it is not necessery at all, I haven't found a single place where you would actually need to jump to get to a specific area. The map is just not thought to support jumping at all. So it's no for me, until we have a new map with more urban areas and rooftops and stuff placed around so you would actually have reasons to jump.

No the number of player playing the mod never been so high and here's the proof : http://data.imagup.c.../1176105047.png the graph is from steam stats : Arma 2 operation arrowhead players. Also you'll notice Arma 2 CO is still regularly in the top 3 on steam. Horses have been mentioned by rocket, but he explained it's a pain in the ass to make them work as "real horses" and not "vehicle with horse models". Dogs are a planned feature. -
I like it. I'd also like to see the already discussed idea of scared birds flying away when a shot is fired. Even if it's not as important as the sounds, it would be both realistic and interesting in terms of gameplay.

rocket's twitter : What is it supposed to mean? The test is only singleplayer? I suppose the mods are under a strict NDA but I wonder if they would give us some infos on how the testing goes... EDIT : griff if you're reading that... just tell us one word about the testing! carrot? well, carrot isn't even related to dayz... but I guess I'll take carrot. thanks for the feedback griff.

A tutorial in DayZ? It won't happen, and it's against the philosophy of the game. The first part when you start a new game, is look for the controls in the option menu. Now you have your controls. So you don't need a tutorial anymore right? I remember the tutorial in Dark Souls, which has a really clever game design and is one of the few games that doesn't take players for total retards. You have 2 or 3 popups in the very beginning that tells you "well this button is for attacking, and this one here is for blocking. Now figure out the rest of the game." It's more of a joke tutorial, something that makes fun of all those games where you can't take 2 steps without being told what button to push and what action will result (think assassins creed, that kind of stuff). EDIT : my point is, if DayZ was to have a tutorial, it should be something that gives you clues on what you can do in the game, not a wiki that explains you every detail in lengths. A few "begginner notes" left in your first character inventory, for instance, would do the trick without breaking immersion.

NPCs ? If I was to spot a NPC I would kill it straight away and loot it's corpse. Or another player would do it before anyone could even have access to the quest menu lol. Pretty useless stuff IMO. EDIT : Did I just read 30 keys were sent to 30 lucky bastards? Looks like we might not be that far from initial release!

I'm against quests, but not against events that would occur from time to time like a plane crashing in the middle of chernarus, some notes in houses that would lead to procedurally generated content, some radio signal that would lead players to a shipwreck or a convoy or a chopper randomly placed in the world and the list goes on... also those events could concern the scientific lore of the virus, allowing players to explore underground labs, military convoys with scientific zeds that would loot notes and stuff related to the origins of the infection and such.

Yep me and my friend did that, I was named "NPC quest giver" and he was "NPC guard" and we just stood in the red house in Kamenka, giving quests and proposing to trade items like tools and ammo. And believe it or not but most of the time it was going well and people played the game and tried to bring us what we asked for. It's really fun if you're not afraid to die from bandits (my friend always had a akm aimed at the guy's head in case he tried something funny).

Yes but it is indeed located right north of cherno, and the new roads we see in the screenshots seems to lead straight to cherno, so you can see it more like a suburban area.

And also... nonononoonononoo! Seriously it's pretty easy to look at a map with cyrillic names, and then compare and use your brainstm to know were you actually are.

So basically they're making cherno a proper city with a brand new suburb area, and those appartment buildings are twice larger than the ones from the actual game.... I'm amazed.
