I wonder when we'll have some news from the closed alpha testing. Is it still a capacity testing or have they implemented some gameplay element?

Concerning the seasons, Arma 2 : ACR already have a modified version of chernarus set in spring or summer. Only like a small part including cherno, though. Redoing the whole map would be a lot more work than what people imagine.

No I'll buy it only during the hot sales month decided by coca cola company and EA. If Dean dares release the SA before november, or after april. or any other non-hot-sales-month, then screw dayz, I'll buy warz.

It will be released when it's done. It's really as simple as that. edit : So now, back on topic I guess :) Anyone thought the green jeans in the video were kind of weird? you don't see that very often... I'd rather see baggy pants, camo stuff, and more sport clothing. But hey Rocket did mention "hundreds of items", so I can't wait to see more

You can't be serious on this one. Actually the clothing system/inventory in DayZ is totally different and developped from the ground up. Arma 3 inventory system is really basic and not a big change compared to arma 2. DayZ system will feature item degradation, a lot more clothing slots, a crafting system... Even though it's logical they borrow some stuff from other of their games, you can see in the video a lot of art assets have been developed specifically for DayZ (new wrecks, building interiors, every item/weapon are redesigned in better quality). Before making big statements like "OMG it will be like an Arma 3 mod!" I suggest you read the devblogs more carefully.

A project like the game you describe would cost millions to develop. A map that has the scale and level of detail of chernarus, would take years to build in the first place. The more your project is ambitious, the more chances it has to become a vaporware. And developing a game takes more than just money, it takes a vision and talented people that knows how to work together. I guess Bohemia have it all, and they're going to make DayZ a fantastic game. EDIT : remember rocket wants to manage our expectations to avoid killing the servers when it's released... which means there is probably a lot more exciting stuff to chernarus plus than what was announced for the moment :)

Yeah 4000 zombies might be not THAT much, but do we really need more? I mean look at the first minutes of the video, cherno already looks crowded with zeds, and it is "only" 3000 zombies on the server... I mean those numbers are fine by me, and if the spawning is more dynamic with random hordes and zombies wandering all around the map then it will already be a massive change from the mod. common sense tells me if they are more dangerous, less predictable, you don't necesseraily need a billion of them, and more is not always better IMO. EDIT : Guys I just noticed something in the video, have a look at 5:12, you can see 2 dark shapes walking in the background, I wonder if they are players or zombies? EDIT 2 : concerning the location, it's just north of vysota hill, the radio tower can be seen at the beginning just behind the first car rocket is looting.

No you don't, because developing a game is not a linear task. Unexpected shit happens. In a project as complex as DayZ, implement a feature might break another one, and then it's extra debugging time that you can't possibly predict. That's why games are delayed. It has nothing to do with the "profesionalism" of the devs, hell i'd say a studio that takes time to delay a game and debug it is more professionnal than one that release a messy code full of known bugs just for cash

I agree. Plus it kills the framerate when you turn around....

I was the first to point this issue with the early screenshots, it's totally solved in the new video footage, in my opinion. Now it just look.. great! and rocket stated it's not high settings, so one can imagine when max out how much more beautiful it will look.

Don't know where to look. Too much awesomness per seconds for my brains to compute. Good job bohemia, DayZ is going to be the end of my social life, once again.

Yep and dean mentioned "children of men" and "the road" has it's 2 major sources of inspiration for the visuals and having hundreds of stills from the movie in his picture folder. The wrecked car models for instance are very "the road" looking IMO.

seriously the ragdoll in arma 3 look so bad, I don't want that in DayZ. I'd rather have some nice mocapped contextual death anims. EDIT : I know the game is in alpha, and it might get better, but for the moment the dead bodies often get stuck in walls, clipping all over the place, in the weirdest positions ever. First ragdoll in games 10 years ago (ut 2003, Half Life 2) were looking better than that

prototype futuristic soldier gear would fit in dayz? I like the quality of the models and the general design, but common, it's totally in opposition with what DayZ tries to achieve. I'm already a bit disapointed they're using arma 3 character models and underwear.
  18. I don't know about realism. All the features in the game should be inspired by reality, but the aim should be to have a deeper, more complex and challenging experience.

Horses? Arma2 ? Retarded animations? there you go :
  20. I totally agree and couln't say it better, given my terrible english. But yeah I suppose people are not ready to give up their 3rd person view, even if it's for a better experience overall. I guess they're just too accustomed to it now. It's a shame because the game is supposed to be an experiment, and I guess if things are changed/removed in the standalone, there will be massive community reaction that might hinder the whole development process. I really hope Rocket has what it takes to make whatever changes he wants, because I don't want to play a game that tries to be to everyone's tastes, I want my survival simulator with pooing and diseases and the slightest mistake should result in death.
  21. It was described from the begginning by rocket as an "anti-game". It breaks some big game design rules and is intended to be a harsh, unforgiving experience. It's not meant to be "enjoyable" in the first place. You're talking about "enjoyability" while I'm talking about emotions, role playing, immersion, intensity... Also I think 3rd person is one of the reason there's so much PVP and shoot on sight mentality around. You can basically spot any player at long distances very easily, while in first person it is a lot harder to see without being seen. People are underestimating the issues caused by 3rd person. EDIT : I'm for removing 3rd person altogether as an experiment, because it is the aim of an alpha prototype : experiment ideas to see how it works and decide whether you keep it or not afterwards.

    The Notorious Can Incident

Let's all just chill, I was one of the first to support Joel to try and get his stuff implemented in the mod, but now I can see it might have been a mistake. I still find his work amazing in term of quality, but I can see how the "easter eggs" part of it may be too much for some people. Another issue : people might want food that looks less western/american and more "chernarussian" in style. Anyway, mistakes were made and it should now be time to stop insulting each other.

amazing stuff. Would definitely make a perfect splash screen for DayZ SA !

    Fast reload vs slower reload

This is a fantastic idea! it would add a bit of extra depth to the gunfights, and IMO the game should push the simulation side of things even further taking inspiration of a game like Receiver :

    Why I'm uninstalling DayZ

I won't make a sarcastic reply about this line... just believe me, out of 1 600 000 players, others have already said evey single thing you said here, multiple times, in every language known to man, and for nearly a year now.
