I see lots of people complaining about the gear system, I'm not. You have to get used to it, for me it's a really good feature : more authentic, more intuitive to new players, adds even more to the survival aspect (reminds me of good old resident evil). Zombie count should stay the same. It's good right now. Zombies spawn way too fast. Let us time to clear areas, so we have choice in approaching situations (either stealth or brutal force, now brutal force often becomes lengthy combat where the only solution is to escape because zombie spawn never end) They run a little bit too fast, and don't do enough damage. With slower speed and more damage output, combat would become far more intense that it is. Maybe make the zombie hesitate when you shoot a bullet, giving you an occasion to take the advantage.

I think you can't refill water from the sea anymore. I've only tried at a lake for the moment, worked great for me.

Got those kind of fps drop also in 1.5.7, but really rarely, maybe too much tents or persistent items on a server would make performance drop ? I hope it's something rocket will eventually fix.
-
FPS for me depends on the server, some may have performance problems since 1.5.8.2. I only tried 2 servers on 1.5.8.1, but perf was really good, I would say a lot better than 1.5.7. Now don't know if it's a temporary server problem, time will tell I guess.

My guess is zombie spawn rate have been increased. Not sure but I killed 88 zombies in 10 minutes in a small town and they kept on spawning. This is sick. And I guess rocket know exactly what hes doing, I mean I think he wants us dead, ahah. And I guess I should be complaining and all, but hell I survived 100 zombies maybe, 2 hordes of 20-30 fast running ones, used 6 winchester mags, had a broken leg and 5000 blood... And when I finally made it to safety I almost fell in tears... this was freaking intense man ! thank u rocket :) All in all, it's not bad. It's not bad at all. You have to be fully loaded of bandages, morphine, mags, painkillers and think even more before shooting at zeds. You have to know the place, be fast and aim carefully. When the horde comes in, with 30 or more zombies you have to check you have enough ammo and don't waste it. Other way you're clearly dead. Which is a good thing.

That build is clearly a step forward, I noticed a nice increase of performance. I really like the new inventory system, only anoying thing is to pitch a tent or make a fire, I used to spam the scroll menu until it worked, now this is not possible anymore... Why not make the tent/fire placement system more permissive ?

mh I'm afraid all those people coming in alpha are going to prevent "real" alpha testers (I don't include myself) to correctly test all the features... I mean rocket clearly won't have enough time to manage servers connections, check out suggestions, how features work or not, and well I don't know. Looks like even more work when making a mod alone is already a ton of work. Maybe close the alpha would be the solution? with server password? then open up a little bit more with beta, and finally open beta to test server capacity and all. All I hope is that the mod will grow better and better and include some of the awesome features people are discussing in the suggestion thread. Don't let these minor connection problems slow you down in making the mod awesome, rocket.

So here's what happened to me : I tried entering a building in prone position, and the game somewhat automatically made me stand up. Zombies around were alerted of my presence and I died. I think it is crucial to the stealth aspect of the game to NOT make you stand up when you don't want to. Why not just block the players movement when encountering an obstacle? It would make more sense to me and make the gameplay more fluid. And it would save many lives.

I had the same idea. If it is implemented someday, I would definitely write disturbing poems about the ugly world of DayZ !

What would be really great is having some kind of automatic animations that make your guns lower according to the environment (walls doorways ...). It would be both realistic and wouldn't slow the gameplay.

a radio channel as a "reward" for positive humanity ?
Bat (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't really like the concept of "bandit/survivor" because it is too much a black and white feature. But it could remain in a subtle and more obscure way. In the way players communicate with each other. Let's say we just get rid of the global chat system. The only channel available would be a direct one, used in direct encounters. Then we add a radio item, which would be a tool like compass or a map. Just turn it on and you will be able to switch between 2 channels : A Global channel and a "Help" channel. Global channel is just like the old one. When you feel lonely and lost you can just tune in and discuss with random players. Maybe give general informations about what's happening in the world. "Help" channel would be avaible only to players with positive humanity. It is a tool that players will use to team up, require help, or whatever. Players formerly known as bandits wouldn't have access to this channel, so survivors know they can give their position without too much worries. Now we need to think of all the implications of that system, and how to implement that radio item in the world. what do you think? -

Bat (DayZ) replied to Bat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think it should be tested with the basic text chat of arma, first. Direct channel available for everyone from the beginning. Side chat available only when you find a radio, and group chat for survivors-to-survivors, and bandits-to-bandits. But having the spatialisation effect, and sound processing to emulate radio sound would be cool for immersion. might see that in the beta :) -

Something like that would be cool too, but I can't come up with a way to implement it in the game, gameplay wise. How do you change frequencies for instance? At least the 2 channels thing gives a little more depth to communication between survivors, allowing them to avoid gunfight from time to time. -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed

My idea about humanity and comunication : http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3988 let me know what you think -
Would be good fun, but might be hard to implement ? We could say that after acquiring the item "radio" (would be like a compass or box of matches), you can turn it on or off from the scroll menu. Once it is on, you can hear people talking on the global channel and talk too? Not sure how a radio works IRL ahah so you should think about all the details and gameplay implications, but yeah would be fun :)

Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
Bat (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I'm kinda new to the game, I'm one of those who came recently because everyone was talking about the mod. I think I'm a clever and lone wolf type survivor, who does not trust anyone easily and avoid gunfights because I want to stay alive. And yet sometimes I'd like to team up with another random dude, BUT most of the time it ends up wrong. I guess fixing the communication system so you can text chat to somebody in close distance would solve a lot of unwanted pk situations. Then adding radios that you have to find in the world, in replacement of global chat, could be great from a RP point of view. Last idea, like stated above, would be a "note" system. Find books or paper and a pen in the world, then wright messages that you can leave wherever you want. Or just write your own logbook, so that another survivor may find it and read about your adventures, just for the sake of it. Wouldn't it be cool ?
